Gephardt Blames Kaopectate for His Supreme Court Gaffe
(2003-06-26) — Democrat Presidential candidate Dick Gephardt, who said this week he would overturn Supreme Court rulings with executive orders when he’s president, today blamed the erroneous remark on the many doses of Kaopectate he ingested during childhood.
Pharmacia, the maker of Kaopectate, announced today it would reduce levels of lead in its popular diarrhea medicine to protect children from potential brain damage. But Rep. Gephardt said it’s too late for him.
“I gulped down gallons of that chalky, sweet fluid during childhood,” he said. “Now I’m paying the price mentally. Sometimes I’m not even sure how many branches of government there are, or which party currently holds the majority in Congress.”
