(2003-06-26) — Several U.S. Supreme Court Justices face layoffs this week as the Court attempts to do more with fewer employees. The Justices join thousands of other unemployed Americans, hoping against hope to find other work that pays as well as their old jobs.
The layoffs put to an end for now the speculation about which Justices will retire in 2003, and who will replace them.
“I’m still in shock since I got this letter,” said one unnamed septuagenarian jurist. “It said the court was moving in a new direction, and that my position wasn’t needed anymore. It said that without me the court would just work smarter not harder.”
