(2003-05-07) — Congressional Democrats today urged the Justice Department to investigate allegations that Dick Cheney, the former Halliburton executive, struck a no-bid insider deal to be George Bush’s running mate in 2004.
The allegations, if true, would mean that President Bush didn’t follow government guidelines for posting a job opening. He also may have failed to interview women and minorities for the position.
“In was a no-bid deal,” said Democrat National Committee chief Terry McAuliffe, who is still alive. “Bush should be honest with the American people. Cheney gets to be running mate because of his political connections.”
