(2003-05-07) — A production company which makes “educational” videos about new prescription drugs for Public TV said its major clients have demanded that news anchors like CNN’s Aaron Brown no longer host the video segments.
“The pharmaceutical companies wanted guys like Morley Safer, Walter Cronkite and Aaron Brown because they thought it would buy them credibility,” said a spokesman for WJMK, Inc., the video company. “As it turns out, most people no longer believe what they see on TV news. Viewers who saw our ‘news segments’ later reported significant mistrust and doubts about the drug companies and their medicines.”
WJMK is now in negotiations with ‘more credible talent’ like Kelly Ripa and Conan O’Brien.
