(2003-014-17) — The major U.S. airlines announced this morning a new promotion designed to win back customers, and improve their image with the public. Starting next week bankrupt people fly free.
A spokesman for the airlines association said people who work for bankrupt companies are also entitled to one free monthly round-trip flight to anywhere.
“We feel your pain,” said the spokesman.”And since we have requested assistance from the U.S. government because of our own dire financial straits, it was the least we could do.”
Bankrupt customers, whether reorganization or liquidation, need only show a copy of their court papers to a ticket agent to receive their free flights.
The spokesman went on to describe the offer as “another in a long history of savvy business strategies by the people who lead America’s airlines.”
Airline employees and their families are not eligible.
