Obama: 46 Million in America Live Without Haircare

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 69 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2009-06-18) — While the United States leads the world in research and scientific advancements offering unparalleled options to consumers, President Barack Obama said today “the fact remains that 46 million people in America live without proper haircare.”

“In the most technologically-advanced and financially-prosperous nation on earth,” the president said, “we ought to be ashamed that millions go to bed each night in fear, with no way to pay for regular preventative grooming, some so desperate that they turn to primitive home remedies.”

However, Republicans in Congress contend that the president misrepresents that statistic.

“There may well be millions in America without hair coverage, but haircare is available to all who really want it,” said House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-OH. “When you hear the president use that 46 million figure, you need to remember that about 10 million of those are not even U.S. citizens. We may think their hair looks funky, but it’s culturally appropriate for them.”

Rep. Boehner said that among actual Americans, 17.6 million simply choose not to pay for haircare, despite having family income of more than $50,000 annually.

“Just look at Hollywood if you want a case in point,” he said. “We’ve got millionaires who apparently don’t know where to buy a comb and couldn’t spell ‘barber’ if you spotted them the letters B and R.”

About 18.3 million of the un-coiffed are younger than age 34, he said, and simply don’t see the need yet for proper grooming.

“Until you’re a Dad or Mom, you don’t realize the fleeting nature of great hair,” said Rep. Boehner. You think you’ll always have it, or that you can take care of it yourself. But then you have kids and one day you catch yourself licking your fingers and pasting down your boy’s cowlick…and that’s when it hits you: This stuff is important.”

Once these groups are subtracted from the 46 million figure, and you factor in people who are simply “between stylists” and will get care as soon as they find a new one, Rep. Boehner said the actual number of “people in aesthetic jeopardy” is closer to 8 million.

“The most compassionate thing to do for those people is to reduce their taxes, thereby freeing up cash they can use to get their bangs trimmed,” the lawmaker said. “For many Americans, a tax cut leading to a haircut would help them see all of life in a new way…or at least they could see the obstacles in their way, thus avoiding impact and reducing their need for medical care as well.”

Who combs through all this data anyway? Hair is probably just a vestigal trait anyway … and overrated. I'm sure Yul Brynner and Telly Savalas would have agreed.

Obama's failed presidency will be Obamaton's worst nightmare

Will Obamessiah lose his disciples? Not if the national socialist media has anything to say about this.

Whatever you do, just don't "socialize" it…would take forever to get a way substandard haircut and then you'd just feel bad about yourself and the downward spiral would begin. Civilization would deteriorate to the point where…trust me, it's be "ugly"…

    Hey Fred !

You are really an amateur when it comes to 'smiting' people you don't like, calling them 'silly 9 year olds", etc.

You might want to sign up for a real class in 'How To Smite Your Enemies', to be conducted in Tehran the end of this week by real experts in the field. The class will also incldue some real time 'street practice' in smiting!

BTW, don't hold your breath waiting for JC to turn up anytime soon.

Alright, forget anything I wrote this morning on the Scrappleface Super Highway. Jeesh, I need to get my head out of the sand because I may stand still but the world keeps moving.

Okay, this is my brain flame for forgotten haircare needs. Give everyone who is in need a Wal Hair cutting Kit™*. Paul Harvey always promoted the product and I think it is still made in Amerika, the land of the not so brave and weak kneed leadership.

A few experiments by giving the kids an unintended Mohawks and soon you will be the envy of the neighborhood.

( in Canada, I am proud to say, We have universal haircare. While it is true that we can not always pick our own barber and that the wait to get our haircuts is long, I sleep better knowing that I will not be mugged by long-haired homeless people that are desperate for their next "hit" in the chair. The Canadian right of Universal Haircare is enshined in our bi-cultural policy of having English "barbers" and French "salons". We even apply this to our native animals. Who has not heard of the Canadian shaved beaver, or the annual seal-hunt where we "shear 'em to the bone"? I am proud of my countries priorties and to live in a nation where hair is free to grow. I only wish that Amercans would stop sneaking across the border to get haircuts on MY tax-dollar. Yankee. Grow Home!)

What would Obama's socialized haircare be like? Your choice: buzz cut or bowl cut (using an actual bowl). Because stylists and barbers will be forced to cut hair for $5 — expensive haircuts of the evil rich are forbidden — experienced expensive stylists will be forced out and those that remain will be overworked and won't be able to take time to do a proper job.

    OT (already?!):

NoKo plans to aim some missiles towards Hawaii. Will Obamao develop a spine enough to save the beaches where he can show off his well-oiled pecs and check on the status of his birth certificate?

Meanwhile Hillary! Clinton has fractured her elbow, which was already weakened by her knocking back whiskey shooters in PA to demonstrate that she is one of the boys.

In another power grab and effort to thwart fiscal accountability and ethical standards, the Obamao administration has tossed three Inspector Generals. Details can be found at HotAir. The banana republic or Mussolini/Chavez-land junta is moving along apace.

Good thing John Edwards is no longet a factor, can you imagine how silly he'd look with a $5 haircut? He'd probably rather shave his head…

Then again the wig lobby might just be behind this whole thing. Lots of folks might just opt to shave their heads and but a wig to avoid the long lines/shoddy haircuts thatthis will force upon us unwilling citizens

As someone once observed, “The difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is two weeks.”

But I guess that doesn't matter to balding old white men anyway …

  • 22 JAQ // Jun 18, 2009 at 4:05 pm

It would definitely be easier to keep costs down if we all just got the Barack Obama cut; a few passes of the electric razor, and voila! Haircut's done. This is even a solution for the "balding old white men," as a shorter cut draws far less attention to balding than does a combover.

Hopefully, they'll allow for an optional "Michelle" cut, as I'd rather not see my wife sporting the "Barack"…

If your browser is acting like mine, you should see "Edit" and "Delete" next to the "Report" button at the bottom-right of your originating post.

I'll have to try at home, see if it's different.
Still like the idea of this format…until it goes past 40 posts.on to the second/third pages…then "refresh" takes you all the way back to the start and you have to decide whether to search for "replys" or skip to the end…oooh my tiny little mind hurts…

I hate to bring this up, but have you read about REPUBLICAN Senator John Ensign? You know it seems to be getting harder and harder to get you Repugs to keep your pants on, your feet in the right stall, and to leave the young pages alone.

His friend's wife? Isn't that double adultery? Didn't he know that was wrong before he began?

Bill Clinton's behavior was shameful! But, at least he wasn't pointing fingers at the sexual misconduct of others while fooling with Monica.

Bad is such behavior is, the hypocrisy is even worse! I hate to speak of such things here, but I can't help but to believe if Ensign was a Democratic Senator this post would be on page six here.

What will we tell our children? Tell Senator Ensign to resign, as he said Bill Clinton should have done!

Clean up the Rush Limbaugh Party now, before the Democrats remove you from government altogether!

  • 41 JAQ // Jun 18, 2009 at 7:01 pm

While I'm not going to argue with you about Craig, McCain, Gingrich (previously unaware), or Limbaugh, I would posit that it's not fair to attack Palin's "child rearing" skills.

Bristol obviously knew the difference between right and wrong, and she chose to do wrong. That's her mistake, not her parents'; their job is to raise her to an awareness of right and wrong, not to keep them from ever making mistakes.

I think it's pathetic how we shoot down the people who try to hold up a standard, even though they might fail to meet the standard themselves. It's like someone saying that smoking is bad, but they succumb to a cigarette. Does the fact that they failed to resist mean that smoking is actually okay, or that they were bad for decrying it in the first place? Absolutely not. It should just raise greater awareness of the dangers associated with smoking (or unfaithfulness, or teenage sex, or [insert cause here]).

Well, there is the "glass houses" thingy
And the "cast the first stone" thingy

And my own personal lifetime of observation showing time and again that those that protest a particular action/lifestyle/you name it the loudest are usually either doing it already or deathly afraid of the tendency to do so. For whatever reason homosexuality seems to show this trend the most, the most vocal opponents of it nearly always seem suspect because I have no such desires but also have literally zero "fear" that their choice will affect me or mine in any way whatever.
    Just personal observation mind you…

"Well, there is the 'glass houses' thingy; and the 'cast the first stone' thingy"

Right, neither of which are negligible, but it doesn't change my point. Or maybe it does.

I guess my point is actually that it's pathetic how attention is driven toward the person's failure, so that their original message is completely lost. In the "cast the first stone" case, the point is driven in that, while the woman was guilty of adultery, those who would stone her were equally guilty of their own sins, adultery probably among them. HOWEVER, the point that most people miss from that story is that Jesus was not excusing the sin, but the sinner. He forgave the woman and let her go, but he instructed her to "sin no more." The act of adultery (or any of the other sins represented in the crowd) didn't become any less wrong simply because it was a common sin.

Why, then, do we act like people who succumb to sexual sin, drug abuse, or financial scandals are somehow evidence that their prior stands against such causes are worthless?

  • 46 JAQ // Jun 18, 2009 at 7:29 pm

Every human being has in unalienable right to complete good grooming. Those who are denied access to the most modern grooming techniques and products are at a disadvantage in the workplace. To level the playing field, Obama should open, using stimulus money, government-run grooming centers. All Americans, regardless of color, creed, sexual preference, income level, or national origin could then get free facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and electrolysis. So what if the country is bankrupt - everyone would look fabulous and have a wonderful self-image.

You asked: “I would posit that it’s not fair to attack Palin’s “child rearing” skills.

    I answer:

“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov 22:6, KJV.

(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 1 Timothy 3:5

Please forgive me if 1 Timothy 3:5 isn’t a standard you here would impose on a candidate for the office of President of the United States?

"…we assume that the accuser is guilt free and when we discover they are not then it surely detracts from the message…even though perhaps it shouldn't"

Exactly. It should detract from the accuser's own self-righteousness, but not from the core, unchanging fact that the act they were accusing another of is still wrong.

To reference another common quote, "Remove the plank from your own eye, so that you may see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye" (paraphrased). The fact that I have a plank in my eye doesn't negate the fact that the speck in my brother's eye is still there. It just means that I shouldn't approach him self-righteously, as if I don't have issues of my own. The goal is to eradicate the "speck" while preserving my brother.

All that to say that wood in the eye is a bad thing, regardless of what anyone says or does about it. Clear as mud?

    Ms RightWing, Ink:

While I have visited your blog some time ago, I just revisited it. You do a nice job and I encourage you to continue.

I have a couple of web sites, which shall remain anonymous for obvious reasons. One site I have had for over 12 years. It is a niche site and I earn money from Google Ads. In excess of $3000 a year which pays for my annual winter vacation southward. I heartily suggest that you check this opportunity out - url is below. Google is very very helpful in telling you how to do it and all about the best placement of ads, etc. Obviously it is to their advantage for you to do well.

    http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/index.html

Amazon also started the notion of Affilliates, which is another way to earn dollars from your site. I am one of their original initial 300 affilliates and regularly earn a commission every month - mostly from books related to the subject matter of my web site. But I can earn a commission from anyone going thru my site and buying any product that is offered by Amazon.

For info on Amazon’s program go to:

    https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/

Since you have a lot of time to devote to your blog I think it would be well worth your while to explore both of these opportunities !

    Good luck !

Thanks for your compliments. My blog has been collecting dust for a while. I hope to change that soon. I looked into the Google Ads once, but for some reason never carried through with it.

I hope to set up another site soon dedicated to preserving photos and family histories. I have ideas where I want to go with it. As soon as I can shed the e-bay monster off my back then I can switch gears. Seriously, e-bay got me this far but I need to get my priorities straight.

You need not worry about me and your sites. I am about the least argumentative persons around, but sometimes I let my claws out through satire. That is why I leave for periods of times because I think Scrapple has turned to ugly at times. Still love ya’ll though.

Speaking of which, has Scott dumped the old, new look. I hope so. I kind of greatly disliked the other design. Kept getting lost on the Scrapple Highway.

Your point is a good one, Ms. RightWing Ink. Because this is an open forum it’s incumbent upon those of us who want spirited but positive debate and discussion to avoid being drawn into trollian side-issues and off-topic spats. The current thread is a good example — the very first handful of responses closes with a completely irrelevant ad hominem attack on a member who hadn’t even posted yet in this discussion.

We really need to be a bit more self-policing in this regard, and I certainly do not excuse myself.

JAQ Re#22: “This is even a solution for the “balding old white men,” as a shorter cut draws far less attention to balding than does a combover.

Absolutely true! For my last major “ends in a zero” birthday I shaved off my graying facial hair and lost an apparent ten years in the process. Five years later I adopted a “no comb required” (though not quite shaved) style up topside and rolled back a few more years. Not to split hairs, but when my college-boy youngest son acquired a very close trim he was told he looked ten years older. Short hair is a great equalizer.

Perhaps Obamacare for Hair will be something as simple as buzz cuts for everyone during their years of mandatory service.

I’ve had hair to my shoulders and switched off to completely shaved and everywhere in between (throwing several variations of facial hair into the mix at random). Coming up on 30 years (Aug 11th) with the same saint of a woman. I figure the least I can do is switch up the look a few times a year to keep things at least a bit interesting.

It is easier to keep track in this format…I too got lost more than a few times in “intense debate” but it did seem to keep the discussion more civilized, probably the “direct response” aspect…
    Go with the flow…(or flowbee?)

    Boberin says:

“I too got lost more than a few times in ‘intense debate’ but it did seem to keep the discussion more civilized, probably the ‘direct response’ aspect…”

I agree with you about keeping things more civilized. I think it helps to restrict our tangents to a single “branch” so that we’re not bogging down the rest of the thread. I never got “lost,” though, since we’re given the ability to sort posts by “Last Activity;” it was actually helpful to keep track of who was replying to who.

Looking back at how the posts appear now, it’s funny to see how many posts were in the “JQ/Boberin Post Editing Tutorial.” In the IntenseDebate format, folks could have passed it over, but now they’re forced to scroll through. I’m also noticing that every time a post was edited in IntenseDebate, it was posted again (as a duplicate) in this old format. Annoying.

The one thing I really missed about this old format was the ability to preview our posts in real-time before posting. That’s handy.
