(2003-01-06) — Almost every Democrat in the House and Senate who had not previously done so, today formed an exploratory committee with an eye toward the White House in 2004. Democrat governors are expected to follow suit next week.
Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NYArk, however, will keep her commitment to the people of her home state, and will not seek the nomination in 2004.
Sen. Joe Lieberman said he’s still waiting to be “super sure” that Al Gore is not running before declaring his own candidacy.
The addition of dozens of new candidates almost doubles the number Democrats who say they’ll make a White House bid.
A Gallup poll of politicians seeking to head the Democrat ticket indicates:
- 94% Say America is doomed.
- 95% Blame George Bush.
- 93% Suggest higher taxes are the answer.
- 58% Would name Sen Hillary Clinton as running mate.
- 99% Will withdraw from the race if Sen. Clinton decides to run.
