(2002-12-31) — Veteran shoppers know the best prices of the year are just after the holidays, and this year is no exception, even on the biggest-ticket item of all.
The U.S. Government has slashed the price of war on Iraq by 50-to-75 percent or more.
Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., director of the Office of Management and Budget, said, “It’s simple economics. If you can’t sell it enough at $100-to-$200 billion, then you mark it down to $60 billion and move it out.”
Although most Americans say they want to the U.S. to attack and disarm Iraq, some may have balked at the price tag, Mr. Daniels said.
“Now that it’s more affordable,” Mr. Daniels said, “we’ve removed that objection. There’s no reason now not to do the right thing. The marketing guys are calling it the Baghdad Blow Out Sale…you know, ‘Every weapon of mass destruction must go-down to the bare walls. Because Crazy Saddam is INSANE!’.”
