Murtha Earmarks $3B for Johnstown Deep-Water Port
By Scott Ott, Washington Examiner Columnist

Just a day after the Washington Post reported Rep. John Murtha had secured more than $200 million in federal funding in the past decade for his eponymous airport in Johnstown, Pa., the influential Democrat announced he had earmarked $3 billion in the 2010 federal budget for a deep-water port in his home district.

Meanwhile, back in the swamp :

Treasury says about 110B left in bailout fund.

That’s out of 700B. Seems like money used to last longer, back in the day.

There has been a sizable political uproar over reports of millions of dollars in bonuses paid to executives at financial institutions getting bailout funds. There also is unhappiness that all the money has failed so far in its primary objective of getting banks to resume more normal lending to consumers and businesses.

And, you used to get more for it, too!

What do these banks want from us, anyway? We been stuffing ‘em like Strasbourg geese -

  • 9 RedRum151 // Apr 21, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Not to belabor this, but :

Geithner defends bank rescue program amid warnings.

Geithner said “the vast majority of banks” have more capital than they need to be considered well-capitalized. But he said the economic crisis and the bad assets have created uncertainty about the health of individual banks and reduced lending across the system.

But that was what we were supposed to be “fixing” with all these TARP bailouts, right?

So, how’s all that working out, we wonder?

While credit conditions have improved in the past few months, “reports on bank lending show significant declines in consumer loans, including credit card loans, and commercial and industrial loans,” Geithner said.

Oh. So things haven’t improved? Nope. Did they stay the same? Nope. So what we got for our ~$600B is, things got worse? Looks like -

Got a funny from Patriot Humor - IF only:

    WHAT DID IT SAY?

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calls Rush Limbaugh and tells him, “Rush, I had a wonderful dream last night. I could see America, the whole country, and on each house I saw a banner.”

“What did it say on the banners?” Rush asks.

Mahmoud replies, “UNITED STATES OF IRAN.”

Rush says, “You know, Mahmoud, I am really happy you called, because believe it or not, last night I had a similar dream. I could see all of Tehran, and it was more beautiful than ever, and on each house flew an enormous banner.”

“What did it say on the banners?” Mahmoud asks.

    Rush replies, “I don’t know. I can’t read Hebrew.”

boberin #12: Oh yeah, bob, it’s really paying dividends, alright!

Our president came bearing a basketful of mea culpas. With varying degrees of directness or obliqueness, Obama indicted his own people for arrogance, for dismissiveness and derisiveness, for genocide, for torture, for Hiroshima, for Guantanamo and for insufficient respect for the Muslim world.
And what did he get for this obsessive denigration of his own country? He wanted more NATO combat troops in Afghanistan to match the surge of 17,000 Americans. He was rudely rebuffed.
He wanted more stimulus spending from Europe. He got nothing.
From Russia, he got no help on Iran. From China, he got the blocking of any action on North Korea.
And what did he get for Guantanamo? France, pop. 64 million, will take one prisoner. One! (Sadly, he’ll have to leave his bridge partner behind.) The Austrians said they would take none. As Interior Minister Maria Fekter explained with impeccable Germanic logic, if they’re not dangerous, why not just keep them in America?
When Austria is mocking you, you’re having a bad week. Yet who can blame Frau Fekter, considering the disdain Obama showed his own country while on foreign soil, acting the philosopher-king who hovers above the fray mediating between his renegade homeland and an otherwise warm and welcoming world?

It’s Your Country Too, Mr. President by Charles Krauthammer.

I figured out who is advising Obama, perhaps even feeding his teleprompter too. Reginald Denny (sp?) - c’mon now, can’t we all just get along? I am becoming convinced that the man in the oval office is way too naive to know what he is even doing. But I,m sure he feels good about it. I’m thinking it is his naivety that accounts for most of his poor direction in life. The thinking American is now become the minority, and thus with his “rock star” popularity and masses of empty sculls, and good heavens - when you kisten to the MSM reporting and they are all reading off of the same cue-cards it is safe to say that those empty craniums will never have a clue. It is all one big absurdity that would seem to be unfeasible, and that is the context of my statement about it being us, the informed and understanding individuals that are now unable to resonate with the masses.
    1 Thessalonians 5:3
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
Is Obama, in all of his naivety, endeavoring to bring us into a peaceful and harmonious co-existence with our fellow citizens of the world? Not that I am against peace, but,
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. (Psalm 120:7) We will not be so naive.

Sometimes the path to peace is the battlefield. Appeasing, or just plain attempts at pleasing a thug is folly. Look at how Britain tried to avoid taking on Hitler, it works the same way today as it did back then. We are looking weak and cutting defense spending. Remember Pearl Harbor? We had fighter planes that were inferior to the Zeros, and it cost us dearly. But let’s not learn anything from history or experience. Let’s pretend that we are smarter and better people now. And since we are so much smarter and better, let’s get rid of that religion crutch and our tolerance of God, we can put up with religions, so long as Jesus Christ isn’t Lord of all.

    Fred,

This old priest was pulled over by the police. When the officer began speaking with him, he couldn’t help but notice his slurred speech and bleary eyes. He asked the driver if he had been drinking. To which the priest answered, “Just bottled water”. The cop asked to see the bottle. The old fella pointed to one lying on the back seat. The bottle was labeled Chardonnay Wine. When confronted with this fact, the priest just smiled and answered,

“He must have done it again!”

“Look at how Britain tried to avoid taking on Hitler, it works the same way today as it did back then.”

    Avoid, or delay?

“We are looking weak and cutting defense spending.”

In fact, Obama’s proposed budget increases the base defense budget from the 2009 enacted level of $513.3 billion to $533.7 billion in 2010.

“We had fighter planes that were inferior to the Zeros, and it cost us dearly.”

Really, what was the kill ratio?

How many U. S. Fighter Planes actually got off the ground?

Thumper, you’re playing fast and loose with the truth!

“And since we are so much smarter and better, let’s get rid of that religion crutch and our tolerance of God, we can put up with religions, so long as Jesus Christ isn’t Lord of all.”

That statement is entirely contrary to our founding principles!

Call me crazy (a nice change from some things I’ve been called here) but I did not believe that all would be fine once we began to acknowledge that the rest of the worl might have a point.
Heck, they might not…but we’d have never known if George or his clone were in charge. We’d continue to ignore/dismiss the opinions of the rest of humanity and we’d continue the sharp decline we’d begun.
Now, we stand at least a snowball’s chance of beginning to regain our place in the community…finally!

It’s because of the apologies that the world has not yet formed a lynch mob…but I stress the word “YET”…

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund said on Wednesday the world economy has fallen into a severe recession, cutting its forecast for global growth and calling for forceful action to spur a recovery.
The IMF said the United States remains at the epicenter of the crisis and said it is critical U.S. authorities address mounting toxic debt and uncertainty about banks’ solvency.
It warned that the recession would be “particularly severe” in Ireland and “quite severe” in the United Kingdom and that unemployment in advanced European economies would rise above 10 percent in late 2009 and keep climbing until 2011.

It’s not too late for them to grab a pitchfork…

    From wikipedia:
“The (F4) Wildcat was outperformed by the Mitsubishi Zero, its major opponent in the early part of the Pacific Theater, but held its own partly because of its ability to absorb far more damage.[12] With relatively heavy armor and self-sealing fuel tanks, the Grumman airframe could survive far more damage than its lightweight, unarmored Japanese rival.
In the hands of an “expert pilot” using tactical advantage, the Wildcat could prove to be a difficult foe even against the formidable Zero.[14] After analyzing Fleet Air Tactical Unit Intelligence Bureau reports describing the new carrier fighter, USN Commander “Jimmy” Thach devised a defensive strategy that allowed Wildcat formations to act in a coordinated maneuver to counter a diving attack, called the “Thach Weave.”
It was not until 1943 that more advanced naval fighters capable of taking on the Zero on more even terms, the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair, reached the South Pacific theatre.”

The fact is that we were 4 years into the war before we developed a truly superior plane.
What are we doing now? Canceling future advanced weapons. Should we or should we not strive to maintain military superiority so that when conflicts arise our soldiers are victorious?

As a Christian, Christ is either Lord of all, or he isn’t Lord at all. This “Christian” nation is “fast tracking” policies which retract the national “welcome mat” for Christ. However, we are bending over backwards to the Muslims, even though we know there are factions of it that are at war with us. A nation is note just a territorial description. It is most importantly defined in the character of it’s citizens. Our citizens hold many faiths, it is our duty to respect their faith as we respect their rights.

World War II was not limited to one successful Japanese attack, it lasted from 1939 - 1945. It was during the years prior to the war that we were not developing state of the art, superior weaponry. We cannot afford to return to being a “sleeping giant”, we have an obligation to be vigilant. Peace is always our preference, but not always the best option for securing our freedoms and liberty. When Imperial Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, we didn’t hold a press conference to offer an apology.
Has the world ever apologized to us for anything?

The exaltation of Christ is not the same thing as evangelization. I can magnify Christ without preaching Christ. There is no such thing as blessing upon nations outside of Christ bestowing his blessing upon it. Therefore to have and benefits of his blessing, we must willingly acknowledge him and exalt him as individuals, yes, and as a nation. Separation of church and state is a fallacy, when it comes to Jesus Christ you are either for him, or against him.

  • 58 Laughing@You // Apr 22, 2009 at 3:24 pm

    MNK,

    You Said:
Remember Pearl Harbor? We had fighter planes that were inferior to the Zeros, and it cost us dearly.

I now understand you wish to amend that statement to read:

“Remember World War II? We had fighter planes that were inferior to the Zeros, and it cost us dearly.”

    Then you offer in support:

“The (F4) Wildcat was outperformed by the Mitsubishi Zero, its major opponent in the early part of the Pacific Theater, but held its own partly because of its ability to absorb far more damage.[12] With relatively heavy armor and self-sealing fuel tanks, the Grumman airframe could survive far more damage than its lightweight, unarmored Japanese rival.

    To which I add:

“Grumman was working on a successor to the F4F Wildcat well before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. While the F4F was a capable fighter, early air battles revealed the Japanese A6M Zero was more maneuverable and possessed a better rate of climb than the F4F. The F4F did have some advantages over the Zero. Wildcats were able to absorb a tremendous amount of damage compared to the Zero, and had better armament. The F4F was also much faster in a dive than the Zero, an advantage Wildcat pilots used frequently to elude attacking Zeros.

These advantages carried over into the F6F and, combined with other improvements, created a fighter that outclassed the Zero almost completely. The contract for the prototype XF6F-1 (F6F) was signed on 30 June 1941.”

So, even though you are so tax averse, you support the “Military Industrial Complex” where the greatest examples of waste fraud, and abuse have occurred in government spending.

You say all this because it took us seven months to develop a fighter plane superior to the zero, which most likely wouldn’t have gotten off the ground (or deck) anyway?

George was one of the more “upfront” recent Presidents when it came to faith and if where we are now is a result of God “favoring” us because of that then you might want to rethink the whole “national worship” thingy…

And you mock Obama for apologizing? We looked like idiots and worse for 8 years…and that will indeed take more than “I’m sorry” to get past but…get past it we must and an apology is really tha only possible start

and…increasing spending on the military does not represent a “cut” in funding, new math/old math/any math…an increase represents MORE spending…how is it that conservatives are missing this
Much like an tax increase of 3% on the richest Americans is nothing remotely lie “socialism”

Really, your arguments would be better received if they were at least loosely based in reality…when you shout about the giant orange chicken that’s attacking the sane folks among us can’t help but conclude that you’re a tad “touched” and move on w/o response

President Barack H-word Obama and his glee club, who support the begging, bowing and scraping before third world tyrannical despots, must have lost a fortune in lunch money trying to appease everyone who disliked them on the playground. On second thought, they were probably demanding that the school administration force the top 2% of students give their grades to the kids who were failing.

Bush was castigated over so-called “Cowboy Diplomacy”. Thank God for Obama and his new foreign policy of “Peace Through Sickening Obsequiousness”. I’ll be watching for the History Channel’s series, “Bootlicking World Leaders Who Brought Their Nations to Peace and Prosperity.”.

Speaking of the “Apologize for America Tour 2009″, why is it that Leftists have two apology types? When military veterans voiced their outrage over being listed on a “right-wing extremist watch list” the apology was that they were offended, not for what was actually written about them. But when Obama apologizes to Chavez, the Castros, Noriega, etc. it’s as if he’s expressing his deepest, heartfelt regrets that the United States even exists. After hearing this, I’m not really sure I’d like to know where I rate on the Obama scale, being a white, heterosexual male, who obeys the law, pays his taxes, is current on his mortgage and has no credit card debt. I must be the devil incarnate to the likes of ol’ President Government.

    Freddie Mac CFO…suicide?
Date: 4/22/2009 1:18:45 PM Eastern Daylight Time

    Hmmmmm……Guess he knew too much?

Acting Freddie Mac CFO found dead

VIENNA, Va. — David Kellermann, acting chief financial officer of Freddie Mac, was found dead in his Hunter Mill Estates home Wednesday morning in what police say was an apparent suicide. Fairfax County Police spokeswoman Mary Anne Jennings tells WTOP police responded to the Kellermann home after family members dialed 911 at 4:48 a.m.

Sources tell WTOP Kellermann hanged himself.
“We were called from inside the house to come investigate an apparent suicide,” Jennings says.
“We’re not going to give you details of the condition of the body, except to say it was an apparent suicide.”

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

I’ve heard the expression: “Something is rotten in Denmark” but I suspect Denmark smells like peach blossoms in comparison with the stink inside our D.C. Beltway.

I think I recall another “apparent suicide” Wasn’t Vincent Foster’s death by “apparent suicide” listed in the Fairy Tales Section, along with “Socialist Tax Cuts”? Perhaps this will be the newest listing?

Obama has opened his own can of worms. Is he attempting to throw red meat to the Leftie Nutroots? Is he trying to deflect attention from the pathetic efforts of Turbo Tax Timmy and the tanking US economy?

Obama will be subjecting his own fully informed party members to some pointed questioning should he give the green light to Holder, the unethical lawyer who pushed for the pardon of members of FARC for political expediency.

It’s a sorry day when politicizing policy differences for partisan one-upsmanship trumps national security issues.

Obama is not acting like a leader whose concerns are the defense of his country. He ignored the advice of Panetta and Blair. One has to wonder what motivated Obama. Every day adds another nail to the failed Obama presidency

Oh, the irony. Yesterday was Earth Day, former President Clinton and Presentdent Obonga were out and about planting trees. (Was this the best idear they could come up with? Why not save this sort of gig for Arbor Day?) Anyhow, here I was in Gilette, oblivious to the Earth Day activities that were going on all around the planet, blogged a little, and then went out to shop for a pole trimmer to use on my trees. What started out as some innocent tree trimming maintenance quickly blossomed into something a bit more intense. By 6 PM, I had trimmed 6 trees and cut down two, plus removed 1 more rots and all with my evil GMC Suburban SUV! Trees also make an excellent source of firewood! I can’t wait until next year’s Earth Day celebration, I think this will become a tradition at my home.

    Reminds me of this verse:
    Romans 1:25

25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

  • 99 mindknumbed kid // Apr 23, 2009 at 6:32 pm

    Notice to “Earth Day” proponents:

God, the Creator is in absolute control of the universe. Nothing happens without his authorization, moreover, his direction. The destruction of the planet will occur when God chooses, and how God chooses. The contributing factor to the destruction is disobedience to his Word, not CO2 emissions, or anything else man does outside of disobedience to his Word.
If we do not resist the actions of Obama, he will be successful in laying the groundwork for the destruction of the planet. If continues to have the power and charisma that he has he could very well be the equivalent of a John the Baptist for the Antichrist.
    Matthew 24:37
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
    Luke 17:27
People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
    Genesis 6:5
5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Hey for all of you heathens tuning in all around the globe, I have the answer for you that funny boy won’t tell ya. The prophet Muhammed, upon resuming room temperature, was not found to be among the believers in Christ Jesus, the son of God (who is not a wannabe, like Al) and thus has been condemned to eternity in Hell, and not only that, but he is permanently barred from Heaven. But hey, if you wish to believe it to be otherwise, that’s OK - God allows you to do that.

mkk #101: In case you missed this news item …

    SATAN ADMITS HELL ABUSES
HELL (AP) - A visibly frustrated Satan dismissed allegations that conditions in the netherworld are “inhumane,” telling assembled members of the media, “I can’t make it any plainer for you morons.”
The Devil’s outburst came in response to a reporter’s question about whether there were any plans to close Hell. “No, no, no,” Satan explained, “you don’t seem to get the concept. Hell is where the souls of people who are damned, D-A-M-N-E-D, spend eternity. It is the consequence of a life of evil deeds. Why would I close it?” Follow-up questions about temperature extremes, lack of due process and complaints by some condemned souls that they were framed drew disquieting glares from the Prince of Darkness. “It’s Hell. It’s not the Betty Ford Clinic, or some program to let Pol Pot and Hitler get in touch with their feelings. It’s eternal damnation. It’s not supposed to be pleasant.” The last comment drew a shocked gasp from the reporters present.
When asked if he thought it was fair that souls be condemned for eternity, for example for merely beheading someone, Satan shrugged. “Those are the rules. I’m not a philospher.”

  • 109 mindknumbed kid // Apr 23, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Thanks Red, You’re right I did miss that one! I guess the reporters that were present made absolutely certain they didn’t offend the ole Devil seeing as they were unsure of what their eternal fate might be. Just one softball after another…perhaps that is why most Dems get the same treatment, just in case one of them turns out to be Satan…
