Gitmo a Roaring Success in the U.S. Prison System

by Scott Ott for Townhall.com

As the ink dries on President Barack Obama’s order to close the U.S. terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, America stands to lose her most effective correctional institution.

While the president and his aides figure out what to do with the remaining enemy combatants residing in the P.O.W. camp affectionately known as ‘Gitmo’, one startling statistic has received little notice in the mainstream media — the recidivism rate.

Well, according to this, Sheriff Joe’s recidivism rate is nearly zero and he’s offered to take them!

  • 2 gafisher // Jan 24, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Joe’s too soft. Better we send them to Judge Roy Bean.

  • 3 MajorDomo // Jan 24, 2009 at 10:59 pm

I know why Obummer and the Democrats want to close Gitmo: They want to avoid being sent there for such things as stuffing their shorts full of state secrets…. and other national disgraces worthy of waterboarding and the old-fashioned Chinese water-torture.

  • 4 MajorDomo // Jan 24, 2009 at 11:02 pm

    Got change?

  • 5 RedPepper // Jan 25, 2009 at 11:23 am

Is the recidivism rate low because Gitmo graduates are determined to do anything to avoid a repeat incarceration?

Guess that means we should start torturing our criminals!

Afghanistan accuses American troops operating under a new American Commander in Chief of killing 16 civilians. Remember, this is the theater of operation that Mr. Obama wanted to ramp up operations. Also reports of unmanned drone killing 18 in Pakistan (a country Mr. Obama said he would invade in order to capture OBL and fight al Qaeda) … national socialist media maintains silence as to how many civilians were killed in this attack.

    Gee, I wonder why.

The Atlantic Business daily reports that at the point the ObaMao Administration has taken over the reigns - and despite the incompetence of a Democrat-led Congress that refused to exercise its proper oversight over the mortgage industry and other key financial institutions - under the Bush administration “after adjusting for inflation, the average American earns about $2500 a year more today than on the day of W’s second inaugural. That same average American now spends a little less time at the office or on the assembly line, and a little more time on vacation or on the couch. He or she shops online for products that were unimaginable just four years ago. … The air is also cleaner than it was a decade ago.”

But of course if one listens to the Bush-hating moonbats and the national socialist media, we’ve been in the midst of the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Which leads me to these three conclusions about economic perceptions: 1) The economy isn’t really as bad as the Democrats and their willing accomplices in the liberal media have been telling Americans the last three years and within a matter of months MOTUS will magically work a “fix” and the economy will suddenly be humming along accompanied by excessively positive liberal news reports about an “unexpected recovery” and “Obama the miracle worker” … or 2) the economy will grow worse as Congress and the Obama Administration begin levying more confiscatory taxes on American businesses and citizens and further impose their “economic recovery package” and bailouts only to see things made worse. That’s okay, the default mantra will be it’s Bush’ fault … or 3) The Obama Administration and the Democrat-led U.S. Congress are able to avoid doing anything too stupid in tinkering with the economy but they continue blaming Bush as CYA while the economy recovers on its own in two to four years to the everlasting praise of the Obamatons in the national socialist media. Obama wins in each case.

Until the Obamatons recover from their messianic delusions, I can’t forsee a scenario where they will be willing to blame Mr. Obama for anything despite his very public promises of “change” for the better.

  • 7 Darthmeister // Jan 25, 2009 at 11:55 am

I say send them to Sheriff Joe. Making them live in tents out in the desert would be like going home for them. Can’t say that would be “torture”, now could ya? Well, liberals would still find a way to say how “unconstitutional” or “inhumane” such a move would be or some such nonsense.

Murtha said his State would take them too. I guess he is counting on the “redneck/racist” residents of his State to calm these Gitmo guys down.

I say put them in the Capitol building in Washington, and let them “have at” the legislators. After the dust clears, EVEN IF the terrorists are the victors, and THEY become our legislators, I don’t see much LESS hope for where is America is headed right now!;-)

With the 16 innocent Afghani civilians that Armchair Quarterback-in-Chief (AQiC) Barack H-word Obama allowed to be brutally slaughtered, in his first five days as President, his Administration is on pace to kill at least 4, 675 civilians by the time his term ends.

This of course will pale in comparison to the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of innocents that will be viciously butchered, (with premeditation) in surgical strikes all across the United States.

Buyer’s remorse is a crying shame when there’s no lemon law.

    Did you vote for Obama?

    ET

  • 15 Left Coast-Right Mind // Jan 25, 2009 at 5:01 pm

    Did you vote for Obama?

Nope. But several million people did. People expecting change that they were promised. And so far, they’re seeing “business as usual” and “the status quo”…two things that Barack H-word Obama campaigned against. I guess Obama is the messiah. After all, he turned snake oil into kool-aid and fed multitudes on meager helpings of ‘hope’ and ‘change’ until they were gorged.

By the way. Which of President Obama’s five (and counting) Executive Orders eliminated the Patriot Act? None of them? So at this very moment Obama and Joe “Second Fiddle” Biden are spying on American citizens? Shameful.

  • 16 everthink // Jan 25, 2009 at 5:21 pm

    LCRM,

You can’t have “buyer’s remorse” if you didn’t “buy” something.

Did you know that the Obama Campaign built a 13 million person list of supporters, and that he has asked them to remain engaged?

They send out questionnaires to all thirteen million asking for input. I sent one in last week.

In a poll published yesterday, 68% were happy with Obama’s action in the first days of his administration, including 45% of Republicans.

For those who did actually “buy” something there is NO remorse! You all here were already sad!

    ET

  • 17 Left Coast-Right Mind // Jan 25, 2009 at 7:18 pm

In the immortal words of Strother Martin, “What we got here is…failure to communicate.”.

I wasn’t referring to my personal buyer’s remorse. I didn’t buy anything, it was bought for me…kinda like one of them Christmas ties that has blinking lights and plays ‘Jingle Bells’ at an annoyingly loud volume. Except I can’t take it back and exchange it for something I really want or need…I have to wear the pitiful thing for 4 years.

Did you know that the Obama Campaign built a 13 million person list of supporters, and that he has asked them to remain engaged?

Why drag the E.U. and the U.N. into this? Is 13 million going to be the size of President Barack H-word Obama’s ‘Civilian National Security Force’?

In a poll published yesterday, 68% were happy with Obama’s action in the first days of his administration, including 45% of Republicans.

Show me a Republican that is ‘happy’ with weakening our national defense and abortion-on-demand, and I’ll show you a RINO. But are you sure that 13 million people is a big enough focus group? Is ACORN in charge of counting those questionnaires?

I wonder how long those ‘numbers’ will stay so lofty when gasoline starts climbing back towards the $5/gallon mark after Greg Craig ghostwrites an Executive Order banning drilling for oil and oil shale.

    “Enquiring minds want to know.”

  • 18 everthink // Jan 25, 2009 at 7:46 pm

So then it’s like recipients remorse.

Well, I’ll be … looks like you just can’t do enough so so folks!

About that “Drill baby, drill” thing of yours, if we don’t fix the unemployment problem, or at least stop the slide, gasoline will be under a dollar a gallon this time next year.

Your most recent Herbert Hoover sure left us in a fix. And old John said the economy was “sound” just before the brakes failed.

OK everstink, I will do what your side refuses to, I will answer your queery, (I know it’s spelled wrong, but it seems to fit you), about where in the Scriptures people would not be able to speak against the Anti-Christ/ Beast:

Rev 20:4And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

It only stands to reason, if people will be beheaded for not worshipping the beast, the same will happen if they speak against him.

I am sure you being the great Bible scholar that you are, you will now disagree, right?

Please don’t disappoint me and agree with me, proving you can actually interpret Scripture correctly, Mr. “spell check”!

And “The Usurper” said there were 57 states, and that he was born in Hawaii, so what’s your point?

everjibber also said: “About that “Drill baby, drill” thing of yours, if we don’t fix the unemployment problem, or at least stop the slide, gasoline will be under a dollar a gallon this time next year.”

Next year, when gasoline will probably be WELL over $4 a gallon, there will only be one place to put the blame. Your “faux messiah”, and the failure of him to understand how to fix the economy.

MOST economists have said OVER and OVER, raising taxes will only make unemployment WORSE, but idiots on your side still won’t listen, even though some of these economists are LIB Dimocrats!

Just print some more money, that’s your “Obama the Moron’s” answer.

Just saw a poll about how O-blah-blah is doing. WOW, are they going to take a poll every 3 or 4 days until he is drummed out of office?

    He has already dropped!

The assertion that The antichrist would be more compassionate than, say, Hitler [et alia] was when it came to political, intellectual or moral dissension or any genre of opposition to his depravity is indeed stark evidence.

    John 3:19-21:

And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.
All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.
But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.

Looked all around my house yesterday for that “Drill, baby drill thing” that is supposedly mine. Still haven’t found it. Did find a Black & Decker cordless rechargeable drill though.

Who knew that the unemployment rate is the driving force behind gasoline prices? And here I thought it was supply and demand.

LCRM: Pay no attention to the troll. It made a big deal out of wanting me to prove what I said was in the Bible, then when I did, said nothing.

Oh well, back to ignoring it! That’s what I was told as a child anyway, to ignore the ignorant!

    RAM,

You are absolutely right, in part!

My spelling correction was a cheap shot!

The examples you have shown are a continuing problem with my posts; I hope it is just carelessness.

“It made a big deal out of wanting me to prove what I said was in the Bible, then when I did, said nothing.”

Is “it” your intention to make me less than a man? If so, that is the 41st lash.

So 100% unemployment equals free gas. I get it now. Perhaps I’ll just go look up the number of jobs lost so far on Obama’s watch, and then make one of those thermometer graphs and fill it in with red ink as we ‘progress’.

Dang! first it was Clinton’s recession, now it’s Obama’s. Can you see anything missing in that?

Did I say anything, anything at all about President Clinton? Funny, I don’t recall doing so. But what do I know? After all, you’d know me better than I would.

I think I can see your problem, you really need to back off some on listening to Rush.

Firstly, if I can make a small request of you. Please offer a warning the next time you’ll be telling suggesting to [right the first time] telling me what I “need” to be doing with my life so I can grab a pencil and paper. Otherwise, I’m going to have to start prefacing my future posts with “If it’s ok with everthink…” or closing with “Subject to everthink’s approval.” If you could find it your heart to do that, it’d be swell.

Secondly, our President Dear Leader will be deciding what I ‘need’ to listen to on the radio when he signs the “Fairness Doctrine” into law. I included the ‘Dear Leader’ link above as a sample.

Thirdly, if you ‘think’ you can ’see’ my ‘problem’, than that must mean you ‘think’ you’ve taken care of your own plank. Congrats. Happy for you.
