Obama Quotes Rumsfeld to Explain Ayers, Wright

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 47 Comments

(2008-10-07) — Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama, under fire from Republicans over his association with unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers, corrupt real estate developer Tony Rezko and race-baiting pastor Jeremiah Wright, today paraphrased former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in explaining his connection with such unsavory characters.

“You run for president with the friends you have,” said Sen. Obama, “They’re not the friends you might want or wish to have at a later time.”

Sen. Obama, who holds degrees from Columbia and Harvard Universities, has said he was ignorant of Mr. Ayer’s past terrorist acts, of Mr. Rezko’s criminal activity and of the Rev. Wright’s anti-American, racist ideology.

“Frankly, when you live the kind of lifestyle that I have, it’s hard to make friends,” said Sen. Obama. “You take what you can get, and you don’t ask a lot of questions. These guys are the best I could do.”

RezkØbama’s Inauguration may be restricted to Pay Per View if he takes the Oath of Office in the words of Jeremiah Wright.

You know what I’d like to see instead of another debate?

They put up 30 “issues” on a website and everyone can go there and choose 10.

They take the top 10 vote getting issues and give each candidate 5 or 10 minutes to regale us with how they would address those issues.

They cannot refer to the other candidate in any way; they cannot deviate from the issue (a loud buzzer would sound, they’d be redirected back to the issue).

They can only state their position on the chosen subject, what they would do about it.

  • 4 gafisher // Oct 7, 2008 at 10:54 am

Sounds like the YouTube Debate, Bober. Obama didn’t do so well in that one; I suspect he’d decline to chance it again.

  • 5 Shelly // Oct 7, 2008 at 11:01 am

When you know a guy bombed government buildings as part of his “peace” plan, it’s hard to judge him without knowing the nuance behind his position. And who can say twenty years is enough to understand that your pastor hates America? Sixteen felony convictions? That’s a reason to give a slumlord $14 million taxpayer dollars and ignore it when his properties fall deeper into disrepair.

    These aren’t issues?

  • 6 gafisher // Oct 7, 2008 at 11:09 am

OT (except for the overall subject of liberal dishonesty): if you saw An American Carol or if you see it in the coming days or weeks, check your ticket. According to reports, at least ten theaters have already been caught in a scheme to divert both attention and profits from the film by issuing tickets credited to other films. If you view An American Carol but your ticket says something else, both the profit and the credit for your attendance have been stolen and given to an undeserving recipient, in the Grand Liberal Tradition.

An American Carol opened in the Top Ten, ahead of Maher’s blasphemous anti-religion screed; if your decision to see the first was credited to the second you have been the target of fraud as well as its tool.

See here for details and a place to report a fraudulent ticket.

I love Zucker movies, I’ll watch many of them over and over and over but I’ve never seen any movie reviewed as badly as this one…at least from a comedic point of view

  • 8 gafisher // Oct 7, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Those reviewers should check their ticket stubs, Bober. If what they saw involved a lot of dancing Chihuahuas, they ought to take a second look.

  • 9 Shelly // Oct 7, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Liberals don’t think a movie making fun of liberals is funny, and boberin buys into that as legitimate. Not surprising.

Go Nader! Does that make me a liberal? If so then the shoe fits and I’ll wear it proudly

  • 11 Mack // Oct 7, 2008 at 1:12 pm

It disturbs me that liberals, the media in particular, are not real Americans. In case the troll crowd missed it I said “THE LIBERALS, THE MEDIA IN PARTICULAR ARE NOT REAL AMERICANS”

Real Americans, like our greatest generation, sacrificed a lot to save their country. Liberals want it all hand carried to them and they want it for free.

Real Americans risk everything they have to include our very lives to support and defend the constitution and the rights of free people. Liberals, especially the media, lied and continue to lie to support a socialist agenda and weaken the president in time of war. They do it for personal wealth, comfort, and power, ignoring any idea of personal sacrifice for the greater good.

If our MSM would simply seek and report the truth about Obama, Kerry, etc. then the dems would have to actually move from the far left to the center and would have to actually support candidates that really do love our country and really do want to see it defended. I would prefer not to have to fight liberal lies but it seems we have to before it is politically correct to fight Islamic terrorists.

I don’t mind paying taxes, but paying Barney Frank’s slush fund at Fannie Mae is an insult to people who work for a living.

Really do love our country? If you don’t identify yourself as an American with pride I think you should move to some place that better suits you. Cuba maybe? France?

    Hey,

Lets not forget Obama is a distant cousin of Cheney. A cousin! Now THERE is a strong undeniable association. We must all fear that Obama could possibly share the same aspirations as Cheney for war crimes, terrorism, and government corruption. Darn, I’ll bet Obama’s gonna shoot someone in the face with a shotgun to dontyaknow.

Interesting - I just heard a commercial for a new (un-named) Auto. The “claim” is that all of their models are guaranteed to average 30 mpg or better.

Interesting, because I recall the Jet Fighters we had when I was in the Air Force in the early 60’s. Compared to today’s F-22 or F-35 those jets back then were strictly ‘horse and buggy’ affairs.

In 1963 in Germany I bought a used 1959 Opel Rekord. A great auto - I could count on an absolute 35 mpg. My girlfriend had a 1961 Opel Rekord and she also always got 35 mpg.

Why, almost 50 years later, are today’s cars getting poorer gas milage, while my twelve cents per gallon “Quartermaster” (regular) gasoline has gone up to obscene levels?

The debate tonight will have the same predictable result as the Palin/Biden debate. Regardless of who says what - I figure the media already has their TelePrompTer’s loaded with raves on Obama’s fabulous victory over the old man McCain. aka a “kangaroo court” (decision written in advance of the trial).

In a show of the tail wagging the dog. I think McCain will follow Sarah’s lead and be a fighter in the debate. Calling Obama a liar was a good start.

  • 16 JamesonLewis3rd // Oct 7, 2008 at 3:50 pm

I think John Sidney McCain III should use the term “Manchurian Candidate” in reference to BO at least once in tonight’s “debate.”

Obama is a distant cousin of Kenya’s Raila Odinga, the tyrant responsible for seizing power through anarchy and violence and for signing a memorandum of understanding with Muslims to give them power. He is a Marxist.

Obama campaigned for Odinga and raised plenty of money for him.

Google yourself some facts about Obama.

  • 20 mindknumbed kid // Oct 7, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Obama raised money for for Odinga, yet his own half brother lives in absolute poverty and he apparently doesn’t give a d***?
If a person is a patriotic American they would not stand for voter fraud in any way shape or form. A disrespect for legal, honest elections is a disrespect for your country, and for the office for which the vote is being taken. A person with any degree of integrity would not want a questionable vote to be counted, even if it is for the person they are supporting, and especially if it is for them in particular. If the “anything to win” tactics give you a win, the win is meaningless. A person with character would not accept victory if they have knowledge of any wrongdoing. Where are the principled leaders of today?

  • 21 mindknumbed kid // Oct 7, 2008 at 6:30 pm

I hope McCain successfully gets so far underneath Obama’s skin tonight that it leaves Obama literally standing on the stage sucking his thumb and crying for his mommy.
There is no way the lfties in the MSM will allow him to be injured, in their world it would be unAmerican.

Buwahahahaha! “You run for President with the friends you have …”

    Outstanding, Scott!

Can’t wait until the Obamessiah lemmings start comparing him to Jesus Christ when he “supped with sinners.” Of course this rationalization falls flat for three reasons: 1) Obama is no messiah … though he and his followers thinks he is; 2) those Jesus supped with were not the psuedo-intellectual liberal elite (like Ayers, Dohrn, Wright, Rezko, et al), they were “sinners and publicans” … you know, those who “cling to their religion and their guns”, the “little people.”; 3) Jesus took the opportunity to call them to repentance and in most cases they “changed”. In Obamessiah’s case we don’t know of any instance when he challenged his pals or that they changed from their wicked ways. Obama is a pseudo-messiah with a messianic complex.

Am I racially motivated because of the fact that as a white person I get up and go to work to support myself and my family?
Is an African-American male racially motivated to breed and leave to find another “ho”?
It isn’t race, it is character. Nobody owes me a place to live no matter what color I am, or how difficult it may be for me to obtain one for whatever the reasons are.
Character is what it takes to face and fix our national problems, not just in elected officials either.

Fred Re#15: “Why, almost 50 years later, are today’s cars getting poorer gas mileage, while my twelve cents per gallon “Quartermaster” (regular) gasoline has gone up to obscene levels?

In a nutshell, we’ve added such an array of pollution control devices that much of the horsepower of which modern engines are capable is wasted reducing exhaust components of questionable importance while causing those engines to consume considerably more fuel to run the pollution control equipment. Higher demand means higher prices, just as burning more fuel results in more pollution.

There are other factors affecting fuel price, not the least of which is inflation — remember when a brand new Ford Mustang cost $2495? — but most of the fuel mileage decrease (AKA fuel wastage increase) was caused by Washington.

  • 29 mindknumbed kid // Oct 7, 2008 at 7:59 pm

My bro-in-law bought a brand new 1982 Dodge Omni 024 Miser, 1.7 liter engine with a 1-bbl carb and a five speed tranny. Carrying two adults and three young sons traveling from Delaware to West Virginia, through the mountains of Maryland and WV. It made from 52-57 MPG, I think today’s cars ought to do better. Although my dad’s 1989 Chevy Caprice with a 305 V-8 would consistently do 27-28 MPG and one time actually hit 33MPG on a trip back to WV from South Dakota. His ‘96 has the hi-perf 350 police engine and still does 25 on a trip, even the new ‘vettes get upper 20’s while making some tremendous horsepower out of an old fashioned push rod V-8 that everybody derides as being outdated.

  • 30 gafisher // Oct 7, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Every gallon of fuel that goes in the tank gets converted into mechanical energy or waste (”pollution”) so when the MPGs go down and the performance doesn’t go up, it’s pretty clear the missing miles per gallon are becoming waste (”pollution”), which all the power-robbing anti-pollution gear was supposed to reduce! Meanwhile, the complexity of the “anti-pollution” equipment and related engineering changes has driven the cost of repairs through the roof, reducing the useful life of the vehicle and increasing the number of junk cars which have to be dealt with each year. I can hardly wait to see what the same gang of Einsteins does with health care.

  • 31 Darthmeister // Oct 7, 2008 at 10:00 pm

I have to give Obamessiah his due, he missed his calling as a used car salesman. This guy is one sliiiiick talker … blah, blah, blah and empty promises and blather.

He promises tax cuts for the middle-class yet never voted for tax cuts for the middle-class. He talks about Americans “working together” yet he hasn’t a bi-partisan bone in his body since he always kowtowed to the Democratic leadership and voted with them 96% of the time … including raising taxes! The rest of the time he voted “present”.

Obamessiah has never challenged his party’s leadership on ANYTHING of substance despite the fact his party has practically ruined the People’s Republic of Illinois. He’s no reformer, he’s no tax cutter, he’s not about change except to make America more leftist, and he doesn’t care about the middle class. Barack Messiah Obama only cares about the next step up the ladder to advance his political career even if that means plunging his vision of AmeriKa ever deeper into economic and financial ruin. Only a raving lunatic would consider levying any kind of tax during an economic downturn, even if it’s to tax the “rich”.

Won’t some Republican ever get around to pointing out the obvious fact that the middle-class will indeed be “taxed” by Obama if he signs legislation that will tax so-called “windfall profits” or levy even more taxes on big businesses which will only pass the cost down to the consumer … that means me and thee.

If this flim flam man gets into the White House not only is this country in deep deep trouble but the whole world will be as financial markets continue to cascade down the black hole of global socialism.

  • 32 Darthmeister // Oct 7, 2008 at 10:14 pm

    gafisher,

How can electric cars be considered “green” when you still have to plug them in to a powergrid that in 50% of the cases is burning relatively “dirty” coal? I wonder what the conversion percentage for the coal electrical generating facility which sends power to the outlet which charges the car. I wonder if anyone has ever measured the amount of pollutants that an average powerplant has to belch into the atmosphere in order for someone to fully recharge their electrical car.

There has to be a way to quantify how many pollutants/mile that would entail and I bet it would be more than the average, well-tuned gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine getting approximately 20 mpg on average and 25 mpg on the highway. That’s why clean coal technology is so important (something that Biden and Obama scoffed at just six months ago) given how many of our electrical generating facilities run on the stuff and given how the Democrats have been lying to the American people how we can wean ourselves off of fossil fuels in a mere ten years with the application of the magical incantation, “Alternative energy sources”. Try thirty to fifty years minimum. Obama and his shills need to quit lying to the American people about what is technologically possible. Yeah, maybe there might be a truly scientific breakthrough in room temperature fusion technology, but I wouldn’t bet America’s future on it.

There is talk that is making me ill. I am referring to the Keating Five smear lies. Both Senator McCain and Glenn were totally cleared after intense investigation. All five finished out their terms. Only Glenn and McCain ran for re-election, both won. Given that Glenn is working on behalf of Obama in Ohio, it hardly seems appropriate for Obama to go after McCain.

Smearing McCain for association with Keating, implying without clarification that there was wrongdoing on his part, while omitting any reference to the fact that Obama has brought the other Senator that was investigated, and also exonerated, onboard his Team “O”, is to identify the desperation fueling the current level of abject fear in the Democrat Party.

Computers have done wonders in getting greater efficiency from combustion engines. My Dodge hemi gets about 1 hp per c.i. ( 348 ) and 16 mpg, whereas my 57 olds got about the same hp/ci (330) but at 9 mpg -on a good day.

Prayer request. My youngest sister called tonight from Ohio, she’s the one we only hear from at Christmas - so you know it isn’t good news. Turns out that my dad has been having what appeared to be mini strokes for over a year now, he had a more severe episode yesterday morning and they have discovered a brain tumor. They are planning to remove it, but with no follow up treatment. Dad is 80, his heart tested out to be strong, his blood pressure is low, and his arteries are clear. But it is still brain surgery on an 80 YO man, and they know it will eventually grow back but not how fast. (Without surgery they only give him 4-8 weeks.) Dad knows the Lord and I leave it in his hands, if I can manage it I will attempt to be there for the surgery. I should know tomorrow evening when the surgery is scheduled. I will have a hard time getting off work to make the trip, but I trust God to take care of the details.

True, electric cars will have a problem, especially if they are green. First you plug them in, then the Energy Star chip kicks the charger into half power mode. After an hour or so the charger goes into Hibernation Mode, so when you come out in the morning to start the car, it is as dead as last weeks fishing bait.

You bet Saracuda has “problems” back in Alaska. It’s what happens when slimey Democrats abuse the legal system in order to achieve their political ends. Witness one Tom DeLay, he was sidelined by a Democratic prosecutor in Texas who continues having pieces of his “case” again DeLay thrown out.

Maybe some Republicans ought to sic the legal system on both Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and Harry Reid for their rather obvious attempts at influence peddling and conflict of interests while in the U.S. Congress. And given the travails of Tony Rezko and the possibility of a sweetheart deal being given to Obambi in exchange for some kind of quid pro quo, maybe some Republican prosecutor here in Illinois ought to go after Barry and tie him up in court. You know, the seriousness of the charge requires such legalisms when we’re dealing with people like Obambi and his meteoric rise to the highest office in the land. No telling how many crooked deals this guy made, right?

“Factchecking” by the liberal media is only an opportunity for opinion journalism.”

With the liberal media abusing the principles of “factchecking” the question now becomes, who will factcheck the factcheckers? It’s interesting how ABC had several “factcheckers” during the Palin-Biden debate yet none of them caught the five outright lies of Joe Biden. Hmmmmm.
