(2002-12-03) — Former U.S. President Bill Clinton today unveiled a strategy he says will lead the Democrats to strong majorities in the House and Senate in the 2002 mid-term elections.
Speaking to the Democrat Leadership Council just four weeks after the elections, Mr. Clinton said to win Congress his party should appear to support President Bush on national security issues, and come up with some ideas to fix the economy.
Mr. Clinton said he has studied George Bush and determined that voters would rather have “somebody that’s strong and wrong than somebody who’s weak and right.”
“Clearly, our strategy for 2002 should be to be as wrong as possible on the issues, and to appear like strong leaders,” said the New York resident. “Now, I think you all got that first part nailed. So, if we can just figure out how to look strong, it’s gonna be sweepsville for the donkey boys in 2002.”
