Minimum Wage Boosted, Low Wage Workers Hardest Hit

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 165 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-07-24) — Today’s 70-cent per hour increase in the federal minimum wage has sparked a boost in prices at grocery stores and gas stations as employers attempt to recoup the cost of the higher wages they must now pay their entry-level employees.

As a result, many minimum wage workers can no longer afford the groceries they sack, nor the fuel dispensed at the convenience stores where they work.

Democrats who pushed the minimum wage hike through Congress last year, said they plan to address the problem by requiring retailers to raise their prices so they can afford to pay their workers enough to buy the pricier products.

Shelly #2: As someone once observed, if the only tool that you have is a hammer, every problem begins to look like a nail.

By their own “logic”, the Democrats should “help” those minimum-wage-earners by applying their standard remedy … tax ‘em until they beg for mercy!

c-a-t #90(prior thread) When B.O. read the ‘joke’ that one of the planks in HillBilly, Inc.’s platform was to redo the IRS with her new tax system which would eliminate the need for filing income tax returns. Simple tax - Employers would mail all paychecks directly to the IRS and each month the IRS would be required to mail all employees a rebate check for that portion of your paycheck Congress couldn’t find a use for - with a guarantee that no rebate check would be less than the current minimum wage.

B.O. read the ‘joke’ but far from laughing, he is so enamored of the plan that it’s now written into his own platform. His other “change” for America is that after he institutes HillBilly, Inc.’s Health Care program, putting her in his Cabinet as his Health Care Tsar - citizens in need of Health Care will be allowed to apply for a special permit to get extra ration points, enabling them to purchase such additional gas needed to drive to Canada and obtain speedier care in case of emergencies.

Another interesting plank involves making the burial or cremation of bodies illegal. Henceforth all bodies will be shipped to the nearest conversion center where they will be converted into “food pills”. I think the plan calls for them to be colored green.

Additionally, no part of his platform will in any be construed as applying to persons illegally in this country until after they become American Citizens.

The plank of which he is most proud is his change whereby he will be invested in his commitment to bringing America into total parity with our brothers and sisters in Cuba and Venezuela.

    Brief excerpt from Human Events

    Rockbama Plays Baghdad
    by Jed Babbin

As the Washington Post declared melodramatically, that Obama’s “foreign policy credentials are at stake” in his tour of the Middle East and Europe this week. Obama has no credentials to risk. It’s closer to what the Agence France-Presse wrote: Obama’s audition for the part of commander-in-chief. Fortunately for the Illinois naïf, all three network news anchors — CBS’s Katie Couric, ABC’s Charlie Gibson and NBC’s Brian Williams — have decided to accompany Obama on his credibility-invention tour.

That “credibility-invention” bit got me laughing (I’m still laughing). Babbin nailed it with that one! ”
The “Obama has no credentials to risk.” was a very close second. (very close to a tie)

B.O. is over in Germany trying to do his walking on water trick and not only failing but succeeding in making a fool of himself.

If McCain doesn’t make hay in B.O.’s absence he’s missing a wide open opportunity. Rush said he should get out on an oil rig, fly up to ANWR so the cameras can show that it’s not only not “pristine” but in fact is as barren as a rock quarry and in fact even uglier.

In Texas moose, elk etc. are shot on a regular basis - every few years they have to extend the moose and elk hunting season because of the excessive overpopulation which threatens their otherwise abundant food supply. ANWR will in no way affect the moose.

McCain could back lifting the drilling ban and win easily in November.

    There he goes again -

Report: Obama Planning For White House Transition .

“Before they’ve even crossed the 50-yard line, the Obama campaign is already dancing in the end zone with a new White House transition team,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said in a statement. “The American people are more concerned with Barack Obama’s poor judgment and readiness to lead than his inaugural ball.”

  • 11 mindknumbed kid // Jul 24, 2008 at 8:46 pm

I believe that if you give the average person exactly what they want, it will become their destruction. As you listen to the speeches and reverberations in the media these days it would be hard to know exactly what the American people really want, therefore “change” strikes a chord within each individual that translates to “hope”, all the while remaining nothing more than an ambiguous idea. So “change” without any meaning is become meaningful to the masses. It is a fantasy. Fantasies have no bad aspects in them. If there are problems after the fantasy candidate is elected, it is only because of his political adversaries. The supporters of Oblahblah are for the most part nothing more than a bunch of folks who are afraid to live in the light of reality.

  • 12 mindknumbed kid // Jul 24, 2008 at 9:09 pm

On subject (for a change) the problem with the whole system is percentage increases. Give Bill Gates a 10% increase in his earnings and it is a chunk of change, give the kid at McDonald’s a 10% raise and it is not much to shout about. But it creates ripples throughout the entire economic ebb and flow, McDonald’s is forced to raise the cost of a burger a few cents. In the end the ones at the bottom see increased costs throughout the entire business chain and their small raise has been eaten away by everyone’s incremental increases (not to mention skyrocketing gas prices adding further stress on retail prices)until you are no better off, maybe even worse off. No wonder God’s word tells us that we will always have the poor among us. And they are poor, even though they earn a lot more than many of us earned 25 or 30 years ago. It continues to build with time and causes the government to print more bills, more workers earning higher wages equals more demand for dollars. The little raises are merely economic band-aids, the poor have to advance in the marketplace to truly benefit financially, raising the minimum wage does nothing significant for those workers.

    $0.75 x 40 = $30.00
    $30.00 x 52 = $1,560.00

I’ll wager that a LOT of employers are going to have to lay off some employees.

Some of the remaining (I’ve been there already) employees, having to shoulder the workload of the missing employees will feel “put upon” (increased workload/additional responsibilities) and no commensurate increase in their pay resulting in surly slowdowns, quitting - further adding to the problem. Resulting in fewer products, poorer quality, negative attitudes (poorer service).

Somebody needs to write Congress a note of thanks.

Minimum wage should be revoked, allowing the marketplace to establish the correct hourly wage.

Our country shed massive amounts of blood, sweat and tears fighting for the freedom of those oppressed by Germany’s evils and to stop the mass murdering of millions. To have this self-aggrandizing, America-hating, pandering fraud opening his stinking orifice and bashing this country in front of a crowd of people whose ancestors committed and/or were complicit in the Holocaust, among other atrocities, is nothing short of treason. The primary factor in the job description of the President of the United States is the security of the Nation.

Everything else is second or lesser in priority. In the years following the horror of September the Eleventh, 2001. There have been numerous attempts (all foiled) but no repeats of that awful day. The war in Iraq is a proven, resounding success.

I thank God that in His wisdom, He saw fit to establish George W. Bush in the White House. George gets an “A” on his presidential report card.

Remarkable in that he has succeeded in spite of his many, many enemies (both in his administration and the media) who have consistently fought him tooth and nail, working fervently to achieve America’s defeat. He still has our borders to seal and some millions of illegals to get out of the country.

A side factor would be drilling where the oil is known to exist. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are his best allies since they are all but guaranteeing a Republican majority in Congress with their blocking the oil.

Thank God that we have such a great President. I pray that when John is elected, he will be at least as good. He will be if he can learn from George’s mistakes by firing a whale of a lot of his enemies as his first presidential action.

    IN GOD WE TRUST

James, and there is a difference between the Law of Moses (the 10 Commandments), also known as The Law and Levitical law which is known as ‘the laws’. The 10 Commandments succinctly encompasses all of God’s Law. The Levitical Law was given to man as a ‘works’ effort to make man holy before God, something that man quickly figured out was impossible, hence the need for Christ. When Christ came, he fulfilled the Levitical Law but did not abolish the Mosaic Law. Just my 2 cents.

Well, in that case JL3, I wish to reaffirm everything I said back in #44.
et - The things you mention have nothing to do with being “clean” under the new testament of the blood of Christ, the 10 commandments however are still as valid as they ever were. I am not worried about being “unclean” because of things such as bacon, shrimp, or my wife’s menstruation cycle. I am made clean and whole by the blood of Christ and his payment on the cross for my sin.
I do not believe that when Peter had his vision and was told to slay and eat that it meant to go perform a few abortions and then go out for a BLT sandwich. But I guess with how you twist and pervert scripture, that is a viable, maybe even a preferred interpretation. I guess you were right about you and I being “brothers”, as I know Christ as Savior. Good luck upon meeting him, I hope you come to know him before that time.

I know my interpretation of scripture has been questioned here and elsewhere.
I also know for a fact when I earnestly pray to God in the name of his Son, slain by the pagans, my prayers always come true.
Jesus was sent to save. God Almighty allowed his only begotten son (offspring) to die so we could live.
Easier in this life, but greater in the next.

God knows we are but creatures of earth as designed. The Angels look and wonder just as I stare at a fawn without a mother still prancing around and foraging.

The dietary and sanitary laws had a purpose beyond lessons in obedience that not everyone recognizes. You see, back then, Almighty God knew about germs and humans didn’t.

And I agree that the Lord Jesus Christ did not abolish the Law—He fulfilled it. Before which time He gave us two “new” commandments which encapsulate the Ten. If you love God and your neighbor, the Ten Commandments are (theoretically) obeyed as a natural outcome.

Sometimes it’s just too hard for me to really say what I mean in a few short sentences.

Among other things, preach the Gospel to the “unclean” Gentile nations. God dealt only with the seed of Abraham for many years, when they rejected their Messiah, he put them “on a shelf” and took his “offer” to the Gentile nations. Being a Jew is not an automatic ticket to Heaven. Rejection of Christ, in fact, is an automatic ticket to Hell, no matter who you are. I believe God also was saying the dietary restrictions were no longer in effect, so therefore I eat pork without fear. God was the one who declared things to be unclean or clean, he is the authority. Man’s greatest challenge is yielding to His authority.

  • 82 Fred Sinclair // Jul 26, 2008 at 6:55 am

Prov. 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Prov. 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Whether they are promoting Abortion, Homosexual lifestyles, Illegal aliens, Government handouts, More and bigger government, “Manmade” Global Warming and/or a host of other matters in their liberal agenda; the liberals are operating on a “seemeth right” platform.

Except for the which and that - the two verses say the same thing. So the end is death. Which leads me to:

Gal. 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Nothing new - a certain element of the people have, for thousands of years been in a “seemeth right” mode. From casting for themselves a golden calf to the killing of unborn babies to promoting what God deems an abomination - a stiffnecked segment has withstood God, in their efforts to follow their father Satan.

2Chr. 30:8 Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.
Acts 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

The day of the Lord is so, so near but they will not hear.

There’s a lot more than the price of a gallon of gas on the table and come November we will learn who God decides to put on the throne (in the white House). These are interesting times and I’m glad to be alive and more important than me being alive…..I’m overjoyed that God is a conservative.

To be blessed in being allowed to serve the LORD our God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from us is a true joy.

    IN GOD WE TRUST

Peter’s vision in a nutshell is the Gospel going to the Gentiles.

Prior to Peter’s vision no one other than Jews and Samaritans had been baptized into the church. After Peter’s vision he was directed by the Holy Spirit to go to Cornelius’ house. It was only through further revelation that Peter understood that non-Jews could be baptized into the church. Without that vision, the leading of the Spirit, and hearing the testimony of Cornelius, Peter would have not had anything to do with anyone outside of the Jews. God desires fruit, the Jewish people in their rejection of Christ were now barren (save a remnant that were saved), so in order for them to bare fruit God grafted in Gentile branches. The tree is still the seed of Abraham, we are grafted in through the work of Christ’s death on the cross. God has not declared everyone clean, only those who are grafted in through faith in Christ. God knows the hearts of men, it was because of Cornelius’s desire to be righteous that Peter (the Gospel) was sent to him. Al men who are without Christ remain “unclean”. God, not wiling that any should perish, draws men unto himself, many reject that call and remain unclean.
So et - If you are believing that all Gentiles are saved because God has cleansed them, I will never be in agreement with your views. You seem to claim knowledge as to some greater interpretation, but you never offer to share any of it. Unto whom much is given, much is required. To me that includes all aspects, not just to our wealth and material goods, but to knowledge and truths as well. We all tend to have selfish areas, we all have our spiritual “blind spots”, but as iron sharpens iron, we need to meet our kinsmen in the word and help one another be better representatives for Christ until he calls us to the place he has prepared for us.
Of course there is no “religious test” for elected office. If there were it would require some government appointed board or committee to oversee and administer it. But as a Christian nation, we are responsible to do our duties to keep good men, Christian men, men that fear God, in offices of authority. Have you not read what John Jay had to say about what kind of men were to be elected? There are so many quotes from that era regarding this nation’s founding and preservation of what had been founded that it is not unclear that it is imperative for our elected (and appointed) officials to be men of God, to preserve this nation. We have been foolish too long in allowing God’s enemies to rise to power in this Christian nation, to the point that we are only Christian in name only. CINO, will soon come to be religiously tolerant, to religiously irrelevant.

It appears to me that what the prophet said to Jehoshaphat about his attachment to Ahab ["Shouldest thou help the ungodly and love them that hate the Lord?" 2 Chronicles 19:2] affords a salutary lesson.”

It was made by an atheist who entered Yale University in 1903 but left three years later to join Englewood, the socialist colony founded by the writer Upton Sinclair. So you are quoting an atheist socialist who voiced what could be acknowledged as hate speech against Christians. If you want to keep doing that, then we must assume that you are a religious bigot and that we should be very afraid of you.

Remember Kate Smith’s wonderful rendition of God Bless America? This past week I have been tempted to do a version of that song that I am convinced would do more to drive home the meaning of what BO’s buddy, the un-reverend Jeremiah Wright said. But I cannot bring myself to do such a rendition, God Da** America. I think that would be a powerful illustration of how wicked men of this ilk are. I think the outrage that we saw after becoming aware of what he said would be multiplied 50 to 100 times if we heard that song done as Kate did God Bless America. I was taught at an early age that it was so evil that you were never to say God da** anyone by name, and I never have, nor do I ever intend to do so. That is most likely why I could never re-write the song with those words.

If the truth be told … THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LIBERALS

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

And so it was, in the fullness of time, before the harvest month of the appointed year, the Child ventured forth - for the first time - to bring the light unto all the world.

He travelled fleet of foot and light of camel, with a small retinue that consisted only of his loyal disciples from the tribe of the Media. He ventured first to the land of the Hindu Kush, where the Taleban had harboured the viper of al-Qaeda in their bosom, raining terror on all the world.

And the Child spake and the tribes of NATO immediately loosed the Caveats that had previously bound them. And in the great battle that ensued the forces of the light were triumphant. For as long as the Child stood with his arms raised aloft, the enemy suffered great blows and the threat of terror was no more.

From there he went forth to Mesopotamia where he was received by the great ruler al-Maliki, and al-Maliki spake unto him and blessed his Sixteen Month Troop Withdrawal Plan even as the imperial warrior Petraeus tried to destroy it.

And lo, in Mesopotamia, a miracle occurred. Even though the Great Surge of Armour that the evil Bush had ordered had been a terrible mistake, a waste of vital military resources and doomed to end in disaster, the Child’s very presence suddenly brought forth a great victory for the forces of the light.

And the Persians, who saw all this and were greatly fearful, longed to speak with the Child and saw that the Child was the bringer of peace. At the mention of his name they quickly laid aside their intrigues and beat their uranium swords into civil nuclear energy ploughshares.

From there the Child went up to the city of Jerusalem, and entered through the gate seated on an ass. The crowds of network anchors who had followed him from afar cheered “Hosanna” and waved great palm fronds and strewed them at his feet.

In Jerusalem and in surrounding Palestine, the Child spake to the Hebrews and the Arabs, as the Scripture had foretold. And in an instant, the lion lay down with the lamb, and the Israelites and Ishmaelites ended their long enmity and lived for ever after in peace.

And … around the world, global temperatures began to decline, and the ocean levels fell and the great warming was over. The Great Prophet Algore of Nobel and Oscar, who many had believed was the anointed one, smiled and told his followers that the Child was the one generations had been waiting for.

And there were other wonderful signs. In the city of the Street at the Wall, spreads on interbank interest rates dropped like manna from Heaven and rates on credit default swaps fell to the ground as dead birds from the almond tree, and the people who had lived in foreclosure were able to borrow again.

Black gold gushed from the ground at prices well below $140 per barrel. In hospitals across the land the sick were cured even though they were uninsured. And all because the Child had pronounced it.

And this is the testimony of one who speaks the truth and bears witness to the truth so that you might believe. And he knows it is the truth for he saw it all on CNN and the BBC and in the pages of The New York Times.

Thence he travelled west to Mount Sarkozy. Even the beauteous Princess Carla of the tribe of the Bruni was struck by awe and she was great in love with the Child, but he was tempted not.

On the Seventh Day he walked across the Channel of the Angles to the ancient land of the hooligans. There he was welcomed with open arms by the once great prophet Blair and his successor, Gordon the Leper, and his successor, David the Golden One.

And suddenly, with the men appeared the archangel Gabriel and the whole host of the heavenly choir, ranks of cherubim and seraphim, all praising God and singing: “Yes, We Can.”

For those interested - I’ve been studying the impossibility of the human eye from evolution. Ran across THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF EVOLUTION by David Hunt - it’s awesome here is a brief excerpt from a rather long article - dogpile the title for the entire chapter.

Did God create the universe in a sudden burst of energy? We don’t know. We do know that a “Big Bang” could never produce the digitally organized database imprinted on the single cell (the size of the period at the end of this sentence) with which each human life begins. This immense store of self-replicating information (with enzymes that check for copy errors and correct them) directs the construction, operation and differentiation of tens of trillions of cells as different as those in the heart and hair, an incredible feat which science can’t even begin to unravel.

The written instructions are encoded so that only the proper protein (of which there are tens of thousands of types) can decipher it. Darwin knew nothing of DNA or the structure and operation of the cell, today’s knowledge of which has relegated his theory of evolution to the trash heap of absurdities, where it belonged from the beginning. If the simplest cell were broken into its chemical components, the odds that they would ever come back together in the right way is 1 chance in 1 followed
by 100,000,000,000 zeros, and the human body has trillions of cells.

With a retina which solves in a fraction of a second complex equations that would occupy a supercomputer for 100 years, the human eye’s 100 million light-sensitive cells send information through a million fibers of the optic nerve to the brain. We can’t produce optical instruments that come even close to the human eye. A newly discovered starfish has more than 1,000 eyes, each with a lens at least ten times better than anything science has yet been able to construct and all evolved independently yet simultaneously by chance? Please!

The human brain, with its 100 billion nerve cells linked by 240,000 miles of nerve fibers and 100 trillion connections, storage capacity 1,000 times that of a Cray-2 supercomputer and operating at a thousand trillion computations per second, is
even more incredible than the eye, whose optical impulses it translates into three-dimensional images to which it directs numerous parts of the body to react instantly. And all this was produced by a “Big Bang” plus chance, eons of time and survival of the fittest? But until they worked, the eye and brain could not aid in survival, thus the “evolution” it supposedly took to create this incredible optical/intelligence system produced millions of intermediate stages in the right succession by pure chance without any “survival of the fittest!” Yet in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, evolution continues to be promoted as fact by the media and taught, in fact mandated in our schools!

Instead of a spontaneous “Big Bang” of previously nonexistent energy that suddenly created itself, the Bible introduces us to the Creator, a personal God who always existed and was able to make the universe out of nothing by speaking the word.
Science and reason demand the very God the Bible presents.

KILLER BISCUITS WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER (the actual AP headline)

Linda Burnett, 23, a resident of San Diego, was visiting her in-laws and while there went to a nearby supermarket to pick up some groceries.

Several people noticed her sitting in her car with the windows rolled up and with her eyes closed, with both hands behind the back of her head.

One customer who had been at the store for a while became concerned and walked over to the car. He noticed that Linda’s eyes were now open, and she looked very strange. He asked her if she was okay, and Linda replied that she’d been shot in the back of the head, and had been holding her brains in for over an hour.

The man called the paramedics, who broke into the car because the doors were locked and Linda refused to remove her hands from her head. When they finally got in, they found that Linda had a wad of bread dough on the back of her head.

A Pillsbury biscuit canister had exploded from the heat, making a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, and the wad of dough hit her in the back of her head.

When she reached back to find out what it was, she felt the dough and thought it was her brains. She initially passed out, but quickly recovered.

Linda is a blonde and a Democrat, but that could be irrelevant.

More and more, Obummer’s coming off as an arrogant AH: This is but one example:

“David Gergen, former White House advisor to Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton, strongly rebuked the candidate for releasing a statement outlining his discussions with the Prime Minister of Iraq. ‘We have a long tradition in this country that we only have one president at a time. [President Bush] is the commander in chief and the negotiator in chief. I cannot remember a campaign in which a rival seeking the presidency has been in a position of negotiating a war that’s under way with another party outside the country. I think he leaves himself open to the charge that he’s meddling, that this is not his role, that he can be the critic but he’s not the negotiator. We have a president who does that.’ ” -Patriot Post

  • 123 mindknumbed kid // Jul 26, 2008 at 11:01 pm

Obadingdong is way out of line in doing anything of that nature. A person with a good moral compass and any kind of values would know better. But because of their hatred for President Bush and this war many will excuse his actions. I believe even Hillary would have been more respectful and mindful of her role than this over anxious, under qualified, politically immature excuse of a candidate. Such interference is akin to treason in my opinion.

Another BTW, regarding the previous proof of Hell freezing over. It was just pointed out to me that the outcome is a result of Obama’s visit and is reflected in the piece that Darthmeister posted as proof: And lo, in Mesopotamia, a miracle occurred. Even though the Great Surge of Armour that the evil Bush had ordered had been a terrible mistake, a waste of vital military resources and doomed to end in disaster, the Child’s very presence suddenly brought forth a great victory for the forces of the light.

But the war only seemed lost to those that didn’t want to win it in the first place. Let’s face it, the majority of them had no vision as to what we were even doing there, and contempt for President Bush’s leadership in dealing with a situation that they wanted to pretend did not exist. It is a miracle that anyone could withstand the constant negativity that he has been subjected to for years now, and still have the same steadfast leadership. There is still a lot to do there, and nearby too. Hopefully when the citizens of other oppressed ME states see what the Iraqi people have gained there will be the hope for change in their countries as well, and that change can come from within, by the will of the people. There will still be opposition to such changes, evil regimes and those that seek their own power will not roll over and go away, but with progress in Iraq, there is the audacity of hope in a region that has never seen hope in all the days of their existence.

I know people I love more than even my own soul are lost and the best efforts to save them are futile. It’s all because of Liberalism.
Liberals destroy what Conservatives create, always for personal gain. Then they scurry around like rats eating the morsels and taking credit for what they have found.
Liberals cannot create,( save for ignorant ‘artwork’ using elephant dung during their 12 year college liberal arts classes) they only know and spread hate. Jesse Jackson and Al notsoSharp-ton come to mind.

Someone mentioned earlier that the Rock&Roll and Reggae fans that were forced to endure BO over there in the diabolical shadow of Hitler’s monument had been waving USA flags.

Those flags were purchased and distributed by the BO campaign.

Something I have noticed over the years:
Aim a television camera into any crowd at any concert, sports event, disaster, et cetera and people will become ecstatic and wave whatever is in their hand (excepting, of course, the cold beverage)—especially when it’s, like, a free collector’s item (made in China?).

I suggest that they were waving it with ironic mockery as BO tap-danced with vigor and declared himself Citizen of the World which, in my feeble opinion, is tantamount to a renunciation of his US citizenship (I’ll not mention all of the other under/overtones).

  • 135 Fred Sinclair // Jul 27, 2008 at 2:56 pm

So 70% of the people whose fathers voted Adolph Hitler into office say they would vote for B.O. if they could.

And 85% of the people whose fathers bent over to grab their ankles in obeisance to Adolph Hitler say they would vote for B.O. if they could.

Now, all other factors being set aside, is that or is that not more than enough reason to vote for anybody other than B.O.

I do not believe that America wants a President who will do all he can to change America (talk about “change”) into a suburb of the European Union (EU) which is a is a political and economic union of twenty-seven member states, located primarily in Europe. We should do everything possible to avoid becoming the twenty-eighth member state.

So the goal it seems is to establish the twenty-seven member states as part of a one world government - absorbed, blended, intermixed with the fifty-seven Muslim member states with which B.O. is so familiar.

A total of eighty-four Muslim member states. America must not become #85.

Mark Steyn, in his book AMERICA ALONE [the end of the world as we know it] details how America with Australia (and just possibly England, Ireland, Scotland and Canada) may end up against the other eighty-four.

The bottom line being only America can muster the power to defend against the eighty-four, effectively standing alone. Hence his book’s title.

The day may come when standing as a Christian will be as much a hazard as it was in the days of Roman rule. The early Christians were beheaded, crucified, burned alive, sawn in half, etc. Perhaps in these last days it will be so, again.

Adding to the mess is the fact that almost half of America will want to concede and grab their ankles, becoming collaborators like so many of the French did with the Nazis.

To be a good “citizen of the world” you have to do all that you can to make it a better place. Which includes giving up your sovereignty, your freedoms, as an American citizen. It is beginning to be marketed, and for now I presume it will not have much appeal, but they (liberals) never give up, one inch at a time they’ll make their goal of 1000 miles. Obama is making a sales presentation that he may not be able to close on, but it won’t be the last one presented. If your instincts don’t tell you not to buy, you are very uninformed as an American citizen.

All right, it is on the page. We got hit by a tornado last night, be it a small F1 or less. Our building took a direct hit but it slowed down a little when it came by and then picked up in the ritzy housing estate above us by 1/2 mile.

I just returned home from my vacation and after I unwound I went across the street to get a burger at the drive-in. I could see the rain off in the distance and thought I better scoot off to the grocery store for cat food. I wasn’t there more than 10 minutes when the police came in and told everyone to get in the back of the store ASAP.

We had no idea what was going outside so I called my friends down the road and asked what the deal was. Ha, there was nothing, but we could hear the building shake and rattle.

After I left the store everything was a mess. I scooted back home but the police made me gone down the road to cross as power lines were down and a huge oak tree crashed across the 4 lane street.

We got power back at 1:30 a.m. and then I went upstairs. The heat was to great for my MS so I stayed outside until that time with other residents. We just now got the Internet and cable back on, about 20 hours after the storm. It looks as though the street has reopened.

It is a mess outside from branches, leaves, and trash of many sorts but all I
can say is thank God nobody got hurt. Especially here.

This tornado came out of nowhere. There wasn’t even a severe thunderstorm warning, just scattered thunderstorms. The humidity was horrible though and who knows, maybe that is what brought it on.

By the way we got a torrent of rain and hail also. Messed up my flowers. :-(

mkk #135 - Who? Adolph? nah - she’s old, but not that old.

I’m actually looking forward to her “October surprise” I don’t put anything past her. Got to give credit where credit is due; she does have influence in strange places and I think she still has her sights set on the White House and she just might have a bombshell for B.O. Plus I think the DNC is already beginning to look askance at their presumed nominee with serious doubts.

He made a fool of himself on his recent overseas trip and they just may bounce him if Hillary plays a ‘trump card’ - which she already has a track record of doing to others in her past.

I certainly bear him no ill will - I love the guy since the Bible instructs me to. It also instructs me to “pray for those who despitefully use you.” and I believe B.O. plans to ‘despitefully use’ me and the rest of America, if he should win in November.

I don’t “hate” anyone but I despise and hate wrongful actions - aka ‘everything he says and everything he does’.
I will not be at all surprised if Hillary - aka “HillBilly, Inc.” has an ‘Ace up her sleeve’, uses it to burn B.O. nails the nomination at the convention and runs against McCain.

Neither she nor B.O. has a real chance of winning (mainly because they probably don’t listen to Rush)

For either of them to win, McCain will have to make a colossal blunder or as in Julia Roberts famous line in ‘Pretty Woman’ - “….Big mistake, Big, Huge.”

Or they could come out like “Gangbusters” and tell Harry and Nancy to shut up and free up drilling everywhere. That would probably help them.

Congress will revert to Republican control in November if they don’t. With an approval rating (well below GWB) of 9% - voters know they are primarily responsible in the rise of gas prices at the pump as well as the sub-prime housing loans problems.

OT NEWSFLASH! The average price of a gallon of gasoline just passed $10.00 a gallon. The AP reports that a number of gasoline suppliers (list of proposed boycottees) have shut down operations due to lack of sales. This shutdown has taken 600 million barrels of oil off the market. The remaining suppliers are scrambling to find other sources, but A. J. Flint, oil company spokesman, says that they are simply not able to meet the demand of American travelers from the sources they now have. Common sense might indicate that, if you shut off the spigot here, you need to open one somewhere else. That other spigot is Alaskan oil deposits and/or numerous American offshore deposits, but that spigot is sealed, thanks to various nitwit groups; and the Democrat congressional leadership has tied its own hands because the nitwits are their biggest supporters. Woe is us!

Though you’ll hear everything from the war to global warming blamed, the sham “Minimum Wage” increase is the single most significant factor in the recent closing of several restaurant chains, most of whose affected workers depended not on their hourly wage but on the tips they earned to support themselves.

Many dedicated, productive, and hard-working people have been swept from the margins of the U.S. workforce, and many more will join them in coming months, to satisfy the indefensible ambitions of a Congress which has lost touch with the real America.
