Obama Cites McCain War Record as Key Weakness

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 38 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-05-08) — Sen. Barack Obama bolstered his standing as the Democrat presidential contender best able to defeat Republican rival Sen. John McCain today with what progressive pundits agree was a crippling attack on the Vietnam P.O.W.’s military service record.

Sen. Obama launched a “full frontal assault”, using “undeniable facts” from Sen. McCain’s recently released Naval records which he said demonstrate that the presumptive GOP nominee is “unfit to lead the kind of great nation America will become after we change it.”

“John McCain, the man who would be your Commander-in-Chief,” said Sen. Obama, “has some explaining to do. Why was he flying bombing missions over the innocent nation of North Vietnam? What did he do to garner such a shameful accumulation of commendations from the most violent, imperialist regime of the 20th century?”

In a powerful speech, full of rhetorical flourish and emotional impact, Sen. Obama listed what he called “a litany of damning evidence from John McCain’s misspent youth.”

  • The Silver Star medal
  • The Navy Commendation medal
  • The Legion of Merit with a combat ‘V’ and one gold star
  • The Distinguished Flying Cross
  • A Bronze Art Medal with a combat ‘V’ and two gold stars,
  • a total of 17 awards and decorations, not to mention the fact that he accepted the rank of captain from the leaders of this deplorable, war-mongering empire.”

A spokesman for the Obama campaign said the speech had definitively established Sen. Obama as “the antithesis of John McCain, giving Americans a clear choice in November.”

Obama could beat McCain’s record easily — McCain got only himself captured, while Obama could make the entire country Prisoners of War.

    God Bless America!

…what progressive pundits agree was a crippling attack on the Vietnam P.O.W.’s military service record.

What? The “progressive” pundits aren’t satisfied with the physical crippling that the North Vietnamese imposed on McCain?

Powerlineblog and hotair were all over the stupidity of Obama’s remarks and lack of historical knowledge evidenced in his post-NC-win speech re the efficacy of talking to the enemy by citing his Democrat heroes who botched the job.

For an “educated” person, Obama has no clue about history or the Constitution. Does America really want an affirmative action president?

I think Obama has a great potential war record. He promises to wage war on the grieving religious, the hopelessness of gun-owners, fly-over amerika, the middle-class. Impressive.

Mr. B. Hussein Obama, I have to congratulate you. There’s no way that Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili could have said it better. I take it he must be one of your heroes.

Of course, he must be. In your notebook you didn’t even bother to paraphrase him, but wrote his words verbatim and then did a commendable job of memorizing them.

Yes, I’m forced to give credit, where credit is due. Your spokesman for your campaign was precisely correct when he described you as “the antithesis of John McCain, giving Americans a clear choice in November.”

Fortunately, in November, we Americans will indeed make a clear choice which means that your chances of winning over McCain will be slim to the point of non-existence.

And yes, I’m aware that the Anti-Christ has implanted many of his minions (adherents) here in America, so you will of course get their votes, just as Algore did in 2000. With, I pray, the same results.

Effete, elitist Obama has never done a darn thing but serve himself through his suspect “affiliations” with people like “The Disaster Pastor Wright,” “Terrorist Bill Ayers,” and “Crook Tony Rezko.” Obama “misspent” his own youth engaging in criminal activity by using illegal street drugs. His holds Marxist-socialist political views, combined with the conflicted anger of being of “mixed race” and the “bitter” social views shared with his angry wife. He comes to “kill, steal and destroy” the American dreams of those with ambition in order to “level the playing field” for do-nothing whiners and professional complainers. He is complete arrogance combined with foolish, naive ignorance…”unfit” doesn’t begin to describe him as a Presidential candidate.

“The promotion is an apology to Cavaliers fans for a Washington, D.C.-area promotion that included T-shirts portraying Cavs star LeBron James as a ”Crybaby.” ”

Thousands upon thousands have taken to the streets on a chilly Ohio day to get their pizza. Not I. Oh, don’t worry about Pappa Johns because they are donating the money to a Lebron charity for kids so the company is writing the whole tax write off mess off for charity.

Don’t feel sorry for the frigid customers. Remember, they are stupid enough to stand in the misty rain for a dumb pizza

No, just feel pity for the workers making $8 an hour or so who are likely going to suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrom after tonight.

By the way, Lebron James is kind of a cry baby, but local fans idolize him

In other news, we captured the head of El -Koolaid in Iraq today, with the help of those do-nothing Iraqi policepersons. Just Bush trying to help McFame get into office without becoming overcome by his guilt-ridden conscience trying to maintain the status quo in Iraq, in the face of the noble BO barrages that are pending after he finishes kicking dirt on sHrill’ s grave. If it wasn’t coming up on election time that man would still be running free, like OBL, but us evil repubs are getting desperate, I bet BO and ET even suspect that OBL will be killed or captured before it comes time to vote. Stinkin’ dirty republican tricks to swing the election away from such a nice young African-AmercanAmerican man. In other news, McSplain is rumored to be on his way to negotiate lower crude prices with eBO (evil BIG OIL) for late August through November, that will dupe the average nonMOtiVatEd ONes to fall for the evil choice once again.

Assuming the Blue Ridge EMC will leave my power on for five consecutive minutes, and I can shake off yesterday’s chemotherapy, there will be some commentary about the POW vs. the Manchurian Candidate over at United Possums International.

I know this is satire, but Osama Bamalama had best tread lightly if he wants to address anyone’s war record. As far as I can determine, the only “War” record Obama might have is one by Edwin Starr and his so-named musical group from the 1960s. Y’all know the song: “War! Uh! What is it good for?” Osama’s war record probably sounded real good on the beach in Hawaii when the surf was up and John McCain was being “jet planed” in the Hanoi Hilton.

Voters, I give you the timeless words of Yoda: “Be afraid. Be very afraid.”

As we reflect upon the 200th anniversary of Gen. George Washington’s birth, would we dare draw comparisons betwixt the two or three candidates and the first US President under the newly written constitution?
Even McClaim would probably appear to be the antithesis of Washington, but is there such a thing as a double antithesis? That would be BO, and/or HRC, and/or the modern day Dumocrat Party.
Cousin ET, better put on your Dependsâ„¢, with cousin BO getting so close to being the numbscullinee of your party, the excitement might just have an unintended result at any moment.Hey, I guess change would be on the way, wouldn’t it?

Whoa now! Acording to an article from just an hour ago, BO says he IS open to the possibility of having sChrillarous as his running mate.
Is BO an avid jogger, like the Slickmeister, or just randy like him? Does he want her for running or mating, or both?
I’d be scared to take her as VP, and scared NOT to take her - if she wanted it…

  • 22 Fred Sinclair // May 8, 2008 at 9:02 pm

mkk #30 - “…first US President under the newly written constitution?”

Correct, but it got me to remembering, so I looked it up - as an interesting side note: If you wish, let me know and I’ll send you the whole article.

The United States Declared its independence in 1776, yet Washington did not take office until April 30, 1789. So who was running the country during these initial years of this young country? It was the first eight U. S. Presidents.

In fact, the first President of the United States was one John Hanson.

Seven other presidents were elected after him -
    1. Elias Boudinot (1782-83),
    2. Thomas Mifflin (1783-84),
    3. Richard Henry Lee (1784-85),
    4. John Hancock (1785-86),
    5. Nathan Gorman (1786-87),
    6. Arthur St. Clair (1787-88), and
    7. Cyrus Griffin (1788-89) -
….all prior to Washington taking office.

    So what happened?

Why don’t we hear about the first eight presidents? It’s quite simple —
The Articles of Confederation didn’t work well. The individual states had too much power and nothing could be agreed upon. A new doctrine needed to be written - something we know as the Constitution.

George Washington was definitely not the first President of the United States. He was the first President of the United States under the Constitution we follow today. And the first eight Presidents are forgotten in history.

Possumtrot #18: What Yoda said …

I wouldn’t describe the choice as “PoW vs. MC”, Pt ; try “Dumb” vs. “Dumber”. I won’t waste any time struggling with the question of which is which.

I’m no psychic, but IMO John McCain is convinced that he is smarter … & better … than anyone else in the room, and the way this election has gone so far has only reinforced that estimation. With all the things that the Republicans have going against them this year, it is incredible even to think that McCain has a serious shot at winning the election. And yet …

John, get a clue. Buy one, if you have to ! You are not that smart ; or that good ; you’ve just been lucky. You have just been on a roll . Maybe it will keep on going till November. But luck runs both ways.

And, BTW … the last thing that you need to be doing is reminding conservatives of exactly why they didn’t vote for you in the primaries.

Unless Obama becomes room temperature, sHillary is out of the competition. I am very shocked to hear that Obama is open to her as a running mate. But he may figure it to be the strongest ticket, and really wants to win in November. I think at this point, she might accept the offer. Can the two self serving factions unite for “the good of the party”? If so, it might be a good move for them, I wish I had more confidence in my fellow voting Americans, but if the enemy unites…I see it as being bad for us, bad for US,bad.

mkk #27 - I couldn’t agree more, I do however recall that it a Jimmy Carter to get us Ronald Reagan. 4 years of the former ‘peanut farmer’ and America had had enough. Sweeping 49 states, like Reagan did, might be a record, I don’t know, but 4 years of Obama/Clinton might be necessary to get us Jim Inhofe. I might be wrong but the Senator (R) from Oklahoma just might be even better than Reagan was - (IMHO). A Jim Inhofe/Janice Brown ticket in 2012 could reverse a lot of our current difficulties.

Check out Judge Janice Rogers Brown - Federal Appeals Court Judge for Washington D.C.

Again (IMHO) she is one of the strongest Conservative voices in America today. Nominated by President Bush, her confirmation was difficult to say the least. - From Wiki -

    The Dems’ Post-Nuclear Nightmare
The problem of Janice Rogers Brown.

    By Peter Kirsanow

To Democrats, Janice Rogers Brown is the scariest nominee to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in the history of the republic. Since her nomination nearly two years ago, she has been the subject of the most vitriolic and persistent attacks ever leveled against a nominee to the federal bench other than Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas.

The black sharecropper’s daughter, born in segregated Alabama, has been excoriated as a closet member of the Ku Klux Klan who, at least according to the Senate minority leader, would like nothing better than to return America to “Civil War days.” Left-leaning political cartoonists depict her as an Aunt Jemima on steroids, complete with exaggerated physical features typically found only in the racist literature distributed by hate groups. She’s been called insensitive to the rights of minorities, the plight of the poor, and the difficulties of the disabled. Her opponents warn that she is “the far right’s dream judge” and that “(s)he embodies Clarence Thomas’s ideological extremism and Antonin Scalia’s abrasiveness and right-wing activism.” And her opponents are plentiful, a who’s who of Left-wing advocacy groups: Planned Parenthood, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, NAACP, NOW, People for the American Way, National Abortion Federation, Feminist Majority, and the American Association of University Women, just to name a few.

SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A TRULY RIGHTEOUS RESUME. But then again, perhaps a Jim Inhofe/Condi Rice ticket - then Inhofe could nominate Brown for SCOTUS where she could do some heavy duty good for the rest of her life, instead of only 8 years.

    HEY!! It’s my dream, O.K?

Fred S. #22: “George Washington was definitely not the first President of the United States. He was the first President of the United States under the Constitution we follow today. And the first eight Presidents are forgotten in history.”

A minor correction, Fred. Those first eight Presidents aren’t the only examples of what has been “forgotten in history.”

  • 31 Fred Sinclair // May 9, 2008 at 6:11 am

RP #30 - You are correct, I copied what was written “By Peter Kirsanow” and he should have written “…under the Constitution we ‘give lip service’ to, today.”

That’s about what the liberals have reduced the constitution into being; little more than a good luck charm. We wear it like some “non-Christians wear a cross at their neck - just a lucky charm, no more than just another piece piece of jewelry.

I see in some movies about the era of Al Capone, Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson, etc, from “The Roaring Twenties” They gun down a ‘bootlegging’ rival, send a huge bouquet of flowers to the funeral with their shiny gold cross still hanging from their neck - just an ornament.

Which is precisely why the libbers hate Judge Brown so much; she’s a strict Constitutionalist.

I’d venture to say that if the USA returned to the Constitution…….over 50% of today’s Government employees would be laid off and most of our current “entitlement programs” would be deleted. (Come to think of it, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea).

“,,,, the only examples of what has been “forgotten in history.” - you’re right, we’ve forgotten how to be Americans.

Interesting exercise in re-writing history going on in this blog.
    1) North Vietnam was a small country dominated by a colonial French government which abandoned it’s stake in profitering from that region. It was idiotic that our nation wasted time and money trying to succeed where the French failed. Finally, the actual power behind North Vietnam, Red China, is now in control of both our wealth, in the form of trade imbalance, and our capital, in the form of loans. The members of the U.S. government that have profited from turning over so much control to China in the last 2 decades have succeeded in beating our nation in ways the Vietnam’s could never have dreamed of.
    2. John McCain is a war hero: there is no doubt of this. However, after his capture by the North Vietnamise, he accomplished to survive death barely and finally was released only after signing a confession provided by his captors. May braver men died as prisoners of war in Vietnam rather than sign such confessions. McCain was a war hero, yes, but he was not braver than the many who died in Indochina. He got out and build a political carrer around his fame (it helped that his father was Admiral of the Pacific Fleet at the time too). A lot of others did not get so much out of their service to our country. How many Iraq War Vets will have a chance to become U.S. Senators…I wonder.
