Rep. Murtha Backs Hillary, Calls for Her to Pull Out

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 40 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-03-19) — Rep. John Murtha, D-PA, the former Marine and outspoken advocate of a U.S. pull-out from Iraq, today threw his credibility and support behind the presidential candidacy of Sen. Hillary Clinton, as he called on her to withdraw from the race for the White House for the good of her campaign workers and the country.

The veteran Congressman said he has nothing but respect for his fellow Democrat and has her best interest at heart when he says she should immediately withdrawal.

“This battle is draining resources, wearing out campaign staff and volunteers, and making Hillary Clinton a primary target for the radical Republicans,” said Rep. Murtha during a news conference that left him in tears. “Her presence in the race is just exacerbating tensions. She has become a catalyst for chaos. Hillary has done everything that’s been asked of her. It’s time to bring her home.”

The Pennsylvania lawmaker said the fight for the Democrat nomination is a “quagmire”, since neither candidate can capture enough delegates between now and the convention to win it.

“The Clinton campaign is not going as advertised,” Rep. Murtha added. “It’s a flawed strategy wrapped in illusion. The future of our country is at risk. We cannot continue on the present course.”

She’s worn out I tell ya. Stretched to the breaking point.
I’m betting she can tell you who we suspect Iran of backing though. That seperates her from some of the competition.

hans $50,988,467, and that’s just what he spent on the war today

    Happy Birthday, Hawkeye!

Murtha proudly marched with Madame Hillary in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. I see that he continues to spout the blarney.

I heard that pull out did not guarantee desired results.

Hey boberin: How much $ has been spent on Public Education in the last 5 years? What is the success rate compared to what we’ve accomplished in the war effort?

  • 10 mig // Mar 19, 2008 at 8:55 am

Happy Birthday, Hawkeye. How could I have almost missed the day?

  • 11 Shelly // Mar 19, 2008 at 9:07 am

Hawkeye, Happy Birthday! I hope you have much merriment planned.

Scott, an excellent example of how Dems “support” the troops! I’d guess those who “supported” the Patriots are equally happy about that outcome.

bya - Re #1 “….$50,988,467, and that’s just what he spent on the war today”

Glad to hear it’s so cheap. I had been under the impression that the security of our Country and us citizens, could, in time of war, get kinda costly.

In addition to mere money, sometimes the sacrifice of thousands of American lives are required in as little as one afternoon.

Freedom isn’t free, but whatever the price, we pay it and gladly at that.TANSTAAFL (Or for those in Rio Linda and assorted trolls that’s lurking about. “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch”)

So far, at least so far as I know, no one has ever been able to establish the breakaway point at which freedom just isn’t worth it, and we had better throw up our hands and surrender to the slavery of liberalism, nazism, or
    communism.

    mig, last 5? don’t know…here’s something related though…

About $373 billion was collected for public elementary and secondary education for school year 1999–2000 in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Total revenues ranged from a high of around $45 billion in California, which serves about 1 out of every 8 students in the nation, to a low of about $750 million in North Dakota, which serves about 1 out of every 416 students in the nation. Nationally, revenues increased an average of 7.4 percent over the previous year’s revenues of $347 billion (in unadjusted dollars).

war spending so far, about 500 billion but way less of our kids dies in school I’m betting

fred, which of these did Iraq threaten us with exactly? “surrender to the slavery of liberalism, nazism, or communism”?

chairman studs, the next governor of NY perhaps?

Scott: Whatever’s in the water at VVC, you should bottle it and ship some my way! When I was growing up I used to write fiction and poems (my best was probably a poem I wrote for my grandmother for her first wedding anniversary after my grandfather’s homegoing) but I haven’t written creatively in years and I could never write satire.

Too many of the surrender monkeys don’t understand the meaning of an all volunteer military. They still view them as uneducated, poor dupes of the man. Personally I am more impressed than ever with today’s young people having survived indoctrination in the concentration camps that are our public schools. Somehow the belief that some things (liberty, freedom and dare I say peace ?!)are worth fighting for still reaches a few of our brightest and best! I hold them the highest esteem!

upnorth, if you don’t believe that a $20,000 signing bonus is getting some of the “less fortunate” folks involved in this then I have a bridge you might like to buy.
And, until ver recently if they soldier could not complete his or her tour (say they got their legs blown off) they had to refund much of that “bonus” to Uncle Sam.
    Some uncle!

st unfinished? is that street or saint?

  • 23 upnorthlurkin // Mar 19, 2008 at 11:10 am

Drinking the coolaid again, Bob?! I’d like proof of that last accusation. Repeating lies over and over still does not make them true.

  • 24 boberinyetagain // Mar 19, 2008 at 11:15 am

Here’s one, would you like more? I can get em if you want…

    PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.

To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.

Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills.

    dame conversation…no comment

Altmire, Wounded Warrior Speak Out in Support of Returning Veterans
(Ross Township, PA) — Flanked by local wounded warrior SPC Robert Kaminski and other area veterans today at the Ross Township Municipal Building, Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-4) announced legislation that would ensure that members of the armed services who are discharged as a result of combat-related wounds receive the full compensation to which they are entitled by the Department of Defense.

According to Department of Defense policy, enlistees cannot receive their full enlistment bonus unless they fulfill their entire military obligation. Unfortunately, members of the armed services who are wounded while on active duty are not receiving their full bonuses because their service was prematurely cut short.

    Honor the troops!

  • 26 upnorthlurkin // Mar 19, 2008 at 11:36 am

Um, you forgot to mention how that case turned out….the Defense Department admitted a mistake had been made, wiped the slate clean and began an investigation to insure there were no other similar cases pending.

  • 27 upnorthlurkin // Mar 19, 2008 at 11:40 am

From your own KDKA website, Dec 6, 2007, the young man was paid his $7000.

    The troops are honored here.

    Conference, Senator Reid’s office

MURTHA: I know you’re upset. We’ve tried everything we can think of to turn this around.
REID: The man is a mule. And he’s got enough support on the Hill to stymie us. I don’t know what else to tell you.
CINDY SHEEHAN: Not good enough, guys. Positive news on Iraq is getting through our media filters. We need to cut the oxygen on that, pronto.
MARKOS MOULITSAS: Let’s think outside the box. Harry, I want you, Jack, and Nancy to announce tomorrow that you’re going on a hunger strike until every American soldier in Iraq has been redeployed to Okinawa to continue the fight there against al Qaeda.
PELOSI: Good idea. Jack, you can afford to lose a few pounds. Cindy, I’ll go vegan instead. That’s like waterboarding with food. And me, a grandmother. The media will eat it up. Bush’ll fold by Day 4.

How much did we spend on welfare payments in the last 50 yrs. (5+ trillion with a t) and how many people have died from the destruction of the black family? How many people have died (40+ million and counting) from the abortion/industrial complex?
Too bad Girtha wasn’t there to tell BJ Clinton to pull out. Apparently Hitlary was in the White House at the time.

For some reason, I keep getting the feeling that Murtha got his star by kissing A_ _. From what I’ve heard from him, he wouldn’t make a patch on a SAC general’s fanny.
