Bush’s Neo-Market Economic Cruelty
by Scott Ott at ScottOtt.Townhall.com
When it comes to his “fellow citizens”, President George Bush has two words: Trust and empower.
The refrain of the first half of his State of the Union address called on Congress to “trust” the American people, and yet to spend a lot of tax money to “empower” them in almost every area of life. The president professed to trust in the “collective wisdom of ordinary citizens”, but through his proposals he portrayed us as moderately wise, but ultimately helpless. In other words, we Americans know what to do to secure the blessings of liberty, but we cannot do it without government intervention, taxpayer dollars and a federal safety net to protect us from failure.

Good article Scott. And I can’t understand why GW insists on an amnesty program. Why doesn’t he seem to get it?
Nov Thomson — not without a lot of write-ins!

Well said, Scott.
The Bush speech could have been (and with variations has been) delivered by McCain or Romney, while their Democrat counterparts consider even this level of government intrusion insufficient.
The only area in which our President and the current crop of Republicans stumble into partial agreement with the principles of Conservatism is in recognition of the fact that the government has consistently overtaxed those who actually contribute to the economy. The parting of the ways is centered on that word “trust” — Bush and the “Rockefeller Republicans” say the government should “trust” the people; liberals say government should not trust us. Conservatives warn that government has no business deciding such issues, for the proper question is “Can and should the people trust government?” and the answer — a resounding NO!

This is the part that really shocked me:
“In November, we witnessed a landmark achievement when scientists discovered a way to reprogram adult skin cells to act like embryonic stem cells. This breakthrough has the potential to move us beyond the divisive debates of the past by extending the frontiers of medicine without the destruction of human life.”
This statement was followed by a standing ovation from the right, and cold silence from the left.
WHAT? Are they disappointed that there’s a possibility to obtain the same awesome results as stem cell research, minus the wholesale slaughter of human life?
This is the very definition of a WIN-win, but the Democrats can only sit there and scowl. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

Brilliant, Scott! Especially liked the hand on the back of the bicycle seat analogy.

Every year thousands of embryos are created by “In Vitro” fertilization. Because the process does not guarantee fertilization in one try, “donors” must provide several egg and sperm specimens.
The result is multiple fertilized eggs, or embryos, from each donor couple. Since only one embryo is implanted, the remainder are “flushed way”, or aborted if you prefer. Each embryo contains the Stem Cells which offer such hope.
If you believe this is life granted by The Creator, why is it wasted when it might well be used to do the same healing work the Lord Jesus did when He walked among us as a man?

I don’t knowhow much tax money the “Y” receives, but through a grant form a group within the organization I know can excersize in a way that before this time I could not do.
Whether local tax or membership dollars, I can attest to the generosity of our new “Y”. It is not a freebie, just a reduced cost. And yes, I have lost weight already! This is a community benefit. We are not a big city, just a suburb of a bigger city.
Though we are a blue-collar, rusted out, Democrat run city, we know have a way to take charge without socialized excer-care.
call halt: stop the nonsense

Ooops, change form to from, correct the spelling for exercise and un-squish know how.
Man, I better work out on my spelling.
