In Drive to Bridge Generations, Kennedy Backs Obama

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 20 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-01-27) — Demonstrating his broad-based appeal to youthful, as well as seasoned voters, Democrat presidential hopeful Barack Obama stands poised to receive the endorsement of Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

“As we veteran Democrats drive to bridge the generation gap,” Sen. Kennedy will reportedly say at Monday’s news conference, “There’s no presidential candidate in recent memory who’s made a bigger splash than Barack Obama. His candidacy is just the vehicle our party needs for its overdue return to the White House. Sen. Obama has the experience to dive right in, and rescue this nation from the crimson tide of Republican ideas which George Bush has used to steer us in the wrong direction for eight long years.”

Sen. Obama welcomed the imminent endorsement saying, “We’re grateful that Sen. Kennedy has embraced this maiden voyage to the Oval Office. The idea that a man of his influence can see his way clear to supporting me is…well…staggering.”

At the endorsement news conference, Sen. Kennedy will reportedly hand over the symbolic keys to the Democrat party and say, “Obama, take the wheel.”

This endorsement, of course, took place after the Tedster learned that the junior senator from Illinois is not named Osama Obama.

Both senators took the bridge too far to the left to be of any use in steering the nation in the right direction.

BTW Powerlineblog has two threads, today and yesterday, that demonstrate Obama’s sympathies with the PLO and Muslim terrorism-sponsoring parties. Belonging to a black-separatist church that awards Louis Farakhan is just one of his albatrosses.

But, is an albatross worse than an Oldsmobile submarine?

I hadn’t heard that Obama was as “broad-based “as Ted. Does this mean the sandwich wiLl have one slice white bread, and one slice brown bread, this time?
Of course it is hard to find anyone broader that Kennedy.

Will we need raingear or a life vest? Will it be gov’t issued or will it be on the shopping network?

While the media and the Dems are distracting the populace with Obama’s race in the race, Paul Mirengoff at http://www.powerlineblog.com began a thread with these words:

“Last night, in a piece about Barack Obama’s association with anti-Israeli, and in one case pro-jihadist, figures, I mentioned that Robert Malley is one of Obama’s foreign policy advisers. I knew that Malley has peddled the lie that Camp David failed to produce an agreement because Israel wasn’t serious about giving the Palestinians a state. However, I did not realize the full extent to which Malley has shilled for Arafat and the PLO, or the full extent of his hatred of Israel.

Ed Lasky lays it all out in this post at the American Thinker. Lasky includes links to some of Malley’s greatest hits…”
(Following that intro is a series of Lasky’s links about Obama’s foreign policy advisor and his positions with annotations.)

It is worth looking at Mirengoff’s prior thread on the same topic the day before.

Pay very close attention to Obama because neither the media nor the voters enamored with him are doing so.

FWIW: I’m wondering what has gotten into SecofState Rice and her honeymoon with the “Palestinians, but that’s a topic for another day.

It’s way too funny that bloated, addle-pated Ted sees fit to endorse “Osama Obama…er, uh, what is his name?,” over Shrillary, the wife of JFK’s “biggest fan.” Slick has to be seething over this latest insult. He’s been running around yelling and wagging that lying finger at reporters…wouldn’t it be worth watching to see him get in Teddy’s face about this “endorsement?” Muwahahahaha!!

It’s actually been some 72 hours since Kennedy floated this past Obama, but with Caroline and now Teddy “on board” the S.S. Obama seems to be moving full speed ahead. History suggests the Clintons may be left in the wake.

I wonder if any members of the MSM will look up Mary Jo Kopechne to see what she thinks of Ted’s drive by endorsement. Oh wait… she’s dead. How’d she die again???

Gafisher, re: comments to Neverthink a few threads back. Do you moonlight as a Bible teacher because your response was absolutely brilliant? Exceedingly well done.

da Bunny Re#8: “Slick has to be seething over this latest insult.

    I’d pay to see that.

So, is Hillary’s campaign, er, sunk?

  • 12 prettyold // Jan 27, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Hillary is lucky not to have Tedward on her side . She would have to be very cautious not to be “waterboarded”. Or even “waterbroaded”.

Gov taming We really really need this.

Gafisher: I really enjoyed your comments to Neverthink. Those were simply inspired. Thank you.

I have noticed that Teddy is waiting until the next day to make his announcement - that is after wading through a flood of phone calls from Billy Boy who is begging him to please lay low and not make any statements that will have serious consequences.

So, I said to my man-servant, Dick: We really ought to pay that nice Mr. Kennedy for his endorsement of our friend Barack. Pay the man - yes, give the chap a quid, dick

An endorsement from Edward Kennedy is one thing, but the Caroline Kennedy endorsement and her associated comments, now that’s nuts.

  • 17 Maggie // Jan 28, 2008 at 10:27 am

Teddy has certainly turned the tide for Obama by jumping into the pool of candidates and rescuing him. He is certainly a lifesaver.

  • 18 woodnwheel // Jan 28, 2008 at 1:01 pm

As James Taranto over at OpinionJournal.com would say (and as has already been alluded to by some of the regular Scrapplers): “Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment.”

  • 19 Just Ranting // Jan 28, 2008 at 5:38 pm

Asked if he would consider becoming Barak Obama’s running mate Ted replied, “We’ll drive off that bridge when we come to it.”

  • 20 EXT // Jan 28, 2008 at 8:07 pm

    Obama’s new campaign logo:

It closely resembles the former Oldsmobile hood ornament. Possibly got the rights cheap; not much call for those logos anymore.

    Perfect, though, for a sinking ship….errrr car……errr…..campaign
