Edwards Takes Public Cash to Identify with Poor

by Scott Ott · 32 Comments

(2007-09-27) — In a reversal of a previous decision, Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards announced Thursday that his campaign would accept public funding “as a matter of principle to demonstrate that I identify with the poor and downtrodden who live in the second America.”

The decision, which Mr. Edwards noted is “consistent with my previous statements to the contrary,” could ultimately bring $105 million to his campaign if he should secure the Democrat nomination.

“I’ve raised enough money, and personally have enough money, to run this campaign without taxpayer dollars,” said Mr. Edwards, “but if I did that, I’d be nothing but another fat cat with a rich crony network living in the first America — unable to relate to the ordinary working poor, the non-working poor, the undocumented poor and all the other little people who populate the other America.”

The former senator from North Carolina explained that the common bond shared by those in the “second America” is their dependence upon redistributed taxpayer dollars.

By receiving federal matching funds, he said he’ll be able to “relate better to my brothers and sisters whose hope rests confidently in the goodness and power of our benevolent federal government.”

Edwards isn’t exactly taking our money, he’s channeling it.

In related news, Edwards, once a former lawyer and now a former senator, will become poor once he finishes his failed campaign.
Said Edwards: “I’m sending all the leftover money to my best friend, Scott Ott, so he can publish Andy Hefty’s new book, Don’t Get Me Started. I’ts time others like Andy and Scott were rich. “I’m bored with money.”

If only Edwards would drop mail (bulk rate) a dollar bill to everyone in America, he would do America a greater service than by holding any elected office.

He could do this at a cost of only a little over 300 million dollars plus postage and envelopes. After which he could really relate to this country’s poor.

It would be a skewed relatioship however, since most of America’s poor live better than the Royalty in some other countries.

His wealth would be no problem if only he wasn’t so flamboyantly conspicuous in his lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with money per se but his love of money is nothing short of evil - certainly not Presidential.

If he would like to forward some of the funds, I will use it to write a book tentatively titled: “How I became a thousandaire because you bought this stupid book” If I could get Mr. Ott to write the forward, it would be a stunning success

I want in on this deal!!! I am going to run for president and get me $105 million smackers. Redistribute it to me!!

You know, I heard Hillary’s response to this announcement last night….she said, as she took off a glove and prepared to slap his purty face, “You do know, this means wah.” It rather surprised me, in view of her various stances on the subject.

The next thing you know, Edwards will be seeking S-Chip assistance to make health insurance affordable for his children. In identifying with the “working poor”, Edwards hopes to win over those in the health-care field, particularly doctors, who have been driven to bankruptcy through his trial-lawyer band(age) of brothers.

    Beekabok2:
I am soooo sorry, but I am writing a book that I want Scott to forward first. It is in response to these sample pages of a Democrat children’s book entitled, “Why Mommy is a Democrat”. My book is entitled, “Why I am not a Democrat (or a Republican for that matter)” You can view a few of my sample pages below:

“Mommy didn’t let me play with any toys, like a good Democrat.”
“Mommy didn’t let me go to school - just like a good Democrat.”
“Mommy didn’t keep me safe - just like a good Democrat.”
“Mommy aborted me - just like a good Democrat.”

When you go to that site, click on testimonials to the left. Talk about a cult! Sheesh.

“Mistah” Edwards also got busted for having a substantial amount of stock in his portfolio from lending institutions who recently have been accused of predator lending.

Of course he said he would get rid of those stocks and set up a fund for poor downtrodden folk who have lost their house from said institution. In NE Ohio (the worse in the nation) that would take more money than he could cough up.

But, has he set up the fund yet? (sounds of absolute quiet except for crickets)

What Mistuh Edwards needs to do to show his yearnin’ to be a good ol’ poverty stricken white boy is go eat at the cafe I was told not to eat at in King Tree S.Carolina re: Don’t Joke about the Artichoke @ Shelly’s Cafe

I hear he began the redistribution plan with hairdressers theorizing that it woud trickle down to the manicurists and so forth.

Good one Scott but then they all are

Do as I say, not as I do.

    No? Didn’t think so…

  • 12 boberinyetagain // Sep 28, 2007 at 9:22 am

    And he scores #11 again!

  • 13 Deerslayer // Sep 28, 2007 at 9:33 am

I move to cast a unanimous ballot for sHillery. Her various “expert” positions on every subject should please everyone at one time or another. (I’ll bet she even thinks that she tells God what to do)

  • 14 mig // Sep 28, 2007 at 9:36 am

Again I say: we are left with the Edwards of the world and we lose the great patriots that allow the Edwards and the Clinton’s and the rest of the Dhimmicrats to speak disparagingly and freely, the cry of the ungrateful and the ignorant.

  • 15 Just Ranting // Sep 28, 2007 at 9:46 am

    Deerslayer re: #12

No, then she’d be talking to herself.

Reminds me of something the old Monsignor once told me. “Most people say they want to serve God, but only in an advisory capacity.”

  • 16 conserve-a-tips // Sep 28, 2007 at 9:47 am

Wow, Mig. I am listening to it right now. How powerful!

“These people who talk so lovingly about these young people - bring them home, let’s have peace - really despise them.” Whew. Hard words.

  • 17 Just Ranting // Sep 28, 2007 at 9:47 am

    Err Deerslayer, make that #13

I see that Turkey is/has accused the United States of supplying weapons used in many violent crimes in their country. It seems that some 130,000 weapons that we supplied to Iraq in the last few years have gone unaccounted for. Whoopsie!
I’m guessing that they would be justified in at least sanctioning us if not just an outright invasion to stop the madness. Would that be about right?

  • 19 conserve-a-tips // Sep 28, 2007 at 10:01 am

Boberin, please, please tell me that you don’t reason like this. Please?? I want to put you on a pedestal and you keep jumping off.

How is the US responsible for weapons that are given in good faith to the Iraqi government for use against the insurgents? How can we control how every one of them is appropriated?

On the other hand, Iran’s government has placed weapons directly into the hands of insurgents and has sent the Republican Guard to personally fight. Do you see the difference at all????

  • 20 conserve-a-tips // Sep 28, 2007 at 10:05 am

Boberin, please read this and then tell us about apples and oranges. I love ya, man.

    What happened to preview?

  • 21 mig // Sep 28, 2007 at 10:12 am

    Bober,
Put the Turkish gov’t under the same microscope that you put this country under and tell me that their gov’t deserves more credibility than this one. Are you sure that they are unaccounted for? Are you sure? Maybe that report is employed by Soros or perhaps by NYTimes.

    God Bless Eddie.

  • 22 mig // Sep 28, 2007 at 10:28 am

I hope these young people in our military come back and replace the Edwards, the Obamas and the Clintons and run this country with the same passion, the same patriotism that they fight this war.
    God Bless our Troops.

Deerstalker #13 - I’m feel confident that she does try to tell God what to do - however———

Is. 59:2 “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” KJV

Is. 59:2 “But your iniquities have divided between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that he should not hear.” Douay-Rhimes

So whatever she tries to tell God; Scripturally we can rest assured that He doesn’t hear her and I see no evidence that she has gone so far as to remedy the situation via 1 Jn. 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

WoW! I’m sure glad God put that verse in the Bible - without it I (for one) would be in a real bad fix - for sure.

Edwards is a shameless shyster. How would you like to be the doctors who are treating his wife’s cancer, knowing full well that the source of his vast wealth has come from litigation against the medical profession? Make sure the malpractice premiums are paid up… :-(

  • 26 Possumtrot // Sep 28, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Da Bunny has me LMAO. The Hilly-beast has the nominaton locked up, but this jerk might be an also-ran or a vice-presidential candidate. I can summon some empathy for misguided Democritters, but can any sane person even think about voting for this maroon?

Good old Bober ,one can always count on him to believe the worst of our United States of America, and at the same time always believe the very best of our enemies.
I really kinda surprised Bob hasn’t gone over to enlist in Al-qaida. he’d soon fit right in .
    No Brains=No Head.

  • 28 prettyold // Sep 28, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Bob’s last name should be Weaver. he is so good at that Bob and Weave. He drops in ,smiles sweetly ,makes nice ,then Kaboom he injects his nasty little bite of venom .
Then he says ,” ‘bye all, I gotta go.”

Just to save time, here’s a sampling of Baghdad Bober’s more memorable sparkling commentary.

  • 30 Darthmeister // Sep 28, 2007 at 4:37 pm

Hmmm, in that light I guess with John Edwards it’s “I share your pain” as opposed to “I feel your pain.”

Is Mr. Edwards trying to tell us that even among filthy rich Democrats one can’t have too much money? I thought they believed in zero sum economics, so aren’t Donks like Edwards taking the bread out of the hands of poor babies?

Given this reality another way to look at this is the Democrat elites see abortions-of-convenience as another means to eliminate the competition for the money that would otherwise flow into their election coffers. I’m not being to cynical am I?

BTW, you’d think given what the guy is worth he could bankroll his own campaign and still have millions left over to chase more ambulances.

  • 31 Darthmeister // Sep 28, 2007 at 4:46 pm

I’m guessing that they (Turkey) would be justified in at least sanctioning us if not just an outright invasion to stop the madness.

    Bring it on!

Yeah, bober, I bet America is supplying those weapons to the criminal elements in Turkey. If that is true then President Bush and America would be in the wrong, but you know that isn’t what is happening. You have an awfully simple view of the world, don’t you?

If you gave your neighbor a knife to scale fish because he was a lifelong angler and then he used it to kill his wife, would that make you responsible? Or say you legally sold a firearm to a private purchaser whose close relative used it to rob a bank, would that make you responsible? So why are you gleefully smirking over this bit of news? You don’t think the same thing couldn’t have happened under a Democratic administration now do you? If you do, then what’s your point? If you don’t you’re awfully naive.

Weapons end up in the wrong hands ALL THE TIME. Why don’t you blame the actual perps (radical Islamists) instead of trying to blame America or President Bush all the time?
