Obama: Jena 6 Deserve Mantle of Rosa Parks

by Scott Ott · 112 Comments

(2007-09-21) — Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-IL, today said the “Jena 6” — a half dozen black teenagers arrested last year in the beating of a white teenager — “have earned the mantle of Rosa Parks, and Americans should not turn a blind eye to the injustice of their cause.”

“If Rosa Parks were alive today,” Sen. Obama said, “and if Rosa Parks gathered her posse and beat the stuffing out of a white boy and got charged with attempted murder, we would take to the streets just as we have for the Jena 6. The historical parallels are stunningly obvious. This is the most horrifying civil rights violation of our day.”

Meanwhile, the Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson compared the Jena 6 to those who participated in lunch counter sit-ins to protest “separate but equal” accommodations in the South in the early 1960s.

“We need to think of the Jena 6 as intelligent, idealistic young men,” said the Rev. Sharpton, “like those who risked it all to sit down in white sections of restaurants and who then pounded the cherry syrup out of the soda jerk. Is it right to charge such freedom fighters with a violent crime? You be the judge.”

The Rev. Jackson added that, “Somewhere in heaven, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is looking down on us and smiling to see the legacy of his non-violent protest movement as we stand up for the rights of these persecuted boys.”

    Scott,

Congratulations on 5 years of skewering leftists. God bless you and the Scrappleface community you brought together. Scrappleface is on my must read list every day.

BTW, is there a prize for being the Eleventeenth-Million visitor to the site?

  • 3 Shelly // Sep 21, 2007 at 9:35 am

The right to sit anywhere on the bus, the right to eat at any lunch counter, the right for six guys to beat one guy unconscious simply because of the color of his skin. The parallels are incredible.

Don’t get me wrong, there appear to be HUGE problems in Jena. But the Jena Six, in my opinion are not victims nor heroes. Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and those brave men who sat peacefully at that lunch counter while people poured food and drink all over them deserved more respect then, and certainly deserve far more now.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” - Martin Luther King

“I have a dream that one day … the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.” - Martin Luther King

MAYBE IT’S JUST ME, BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME SERIOUS DIS-CONNECT IN THINKING THAT MOTIVATES THESE PROTESTS. WHEN EXACTLY IS IT OK FOR 6 TO BEAT ONE, NO MATTER THE COLOR TO UNCONSIOUSNESS, AND THINK IT’S WHAT THE REVEREND MARTIN LUTHER KING DIED FOR, AND ROSA PARKS TOOK THAT CHANCE WITH HER CORAGEOUS DEEDS? TO EVEN BRING THEM (WITH THEIR PREVIOUS RECORDS) IN PROXIMITY OF THOSE LOFTY PERSONS IS AN INSULT TO ALL!
I GRANT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE LEGAL SYSTEM THERE, I BELEIVE IT WILL BE ADDRESSED, THAT PART IS GOOD AND JUST, BUT I BET THEY STILL DO TIME!

Where were Al [not so]Sharpton and Je$$e Jack$on when that gang of black men raped, tortured, beat and murdered that white couple several months back?

As far as the “Jena 6″ protest, what’s new about seeing busloads of Jack$on’s “Rent-A-Mob” filling the streets to defend the rights of a bunch of thugs? What’s new about [not so]$harpton being on the wrong side of an issue? Any person with an ounce of sense sees these two money-grubbing media-wh*res for the hypocrites that they are.

It’s part of an attitude that seems to prevail among certain people…
Any act that can be construed as racist is exponentially more horrible than any act that is done in response.
i.e. - someone who pulls what amounts to a prank (although a disgusting prank) deserves to get the stuffing beat out of them.

Good afternoon all. Scott, right on the money, as usual.

Just one observation…has anybody else noticed that this “smoldering caldren of racism” is in none other than a predominantly Democrat state, hand fed by Democrats and ruled by Democrats? Where is the drive-by media on this one? Why hasn’t anyone pointed out that the Jesse Jacksons and the Al Sharptons of LA haven’t destroyed racism with their war of 43 years? I thought that the racism issue was a Democrat theme and that they were solving it, unlike the sorry racist Republicans.

CLEVELAND — Police seized 630 pounds of marijuana on the city’s west side Friday morning.

The seizure is valued at $1 million and was part of a three-month investigation.

Police said the marijuana originated in Mexico and was transported to Cleveland through McCallen, Texas, in a legitimate load of Chips Ahoy cookies.

Detectives intercepted the shipment and arrested three males with addresses in southern Texas.

I know this topic was already covered ,but it is really grinding my cork.
Why doesn’t Columbia University just change their name to Ahmadinejad U.
Will they allow women in to the speech?
Will they make them cover their hair?
How many girls and women will attend ,if so?
Why can’t our Universities be as nice and polite to our own President ,as they are to someone who says he wants to kill all of them?
Does President Bush get to go to Iran to make a speech?
How many young people at that speech are having their tuition paid ,by MY taxes?
How will Columbia feel when they no longer get any money from Alumni who happen to be Jewish?
Why don’t the Board of Regents of Columbia just go ahead and name Ahmadinejad president of the University?

Yeah, beat the crap out of a white kid and you’ll get a Medal of Honor from Jesse “Keep it zipped” Jackson and Al Charlatan.

    From Powerlineblog.com:

Cliff May presents some encouraging poll numbers in support of his thesis that the left’s “Iraq summer” has failed to create momentum in favor of accepting defeat and that, in fact, the left is further from accomplishing this goal than it was in the spring.

A Gallup poll reports that 61 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of General Petraeus, up 9 percent in just one week.

Fifty-four percent of those surveyed said they believe Petraeus’ plan for removing troops is the right pace or too quick. By contrast, only 33 percent view the withdrawal as moving too slowly.

Pew reports that nationally “57 percent of Americans who read or heard about Petraeus’ testimony approved of his recommendations for Iraq, while only 28 percent of respondents said they disapprove.

US News & World Report’s “Political Bulletin” highlighted polling that found when “[a]sked, ‘If General Petraeus asks for the troop level to remain in place for another nine months, would you approve or disapprove this proposal,’ 54% approve it; 43% disapprove.

Of course the barking moonbats who normally live by the polls will simply ignore this changing dynamic since according to them the November 2006 elections were supposedly all about the vast majority of the American people wanting to cut-and-run from Iraq.

It’s truly amazing that after four years of constant liberal media propaganda and defeatism, a majority of American people still have some sort of understanding about how important a stable Iraq is in the overall war on Islamic terrorism.

    Hmmm…sounds like extortion. :-)

    Camo #51,
The visit counter should be down below the Comment Box under the “Submit Comment” button…
    Comment by Hawkeye — September 22, 2007 @ 7:23 am

I don’t see the visit counter in IE or Firefox.

    Camojack,
I’m cheering for you to make # eleventeethmillion comment.
    10,997,906 so far.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but how would we even know who made said comment?

    I can’t even see the visit counter… :-(
    (Are we there yet?)

    Beerme

Sooo, where do we meet, or where should I drop the package? Luckily, I have a few pounds stashed in my ‘59 fern green Kenmore freezer.

We had a bake sale at the bunker a few weeks ago and will you believe, I did not sell them all.

    Dumb people anyway.

p.s. I did sell a ton of fudge though.

p.s.s. I bought a Martin knock-off (Jap geetar) yesterday. To bad I didn’t have that at Face 2 Face. After playing a few songs about how life used to be down in the dusty bowls someone probably would have tossed it in the pit with the ceremonial burning of the sandals.

p.s.s.s. Sorry, you had to be there for the sandal ceremony or read The Skunk Lake Picnic at Shelly’s Cafe

Unless I totally messed up the calculation, that works out to about 6,000 “hits” a day, average … not too shabby …

    11,000,292?

I remember when the counter hit it’s first million, what was the story then?

As one commenter said : “We can only hope this little twerp trips, falls, and breaks his freakin neck on the way. Cross my fingers , legs and eyes!!!!”
I will join that crowd and cross my fingers and toes and arms and legs and eyes and and and …

I think it was about Henry Ford building the first car or Edison inventing the light bulb. Hmmm, I just can’t recall

  • 87 Shelly // Sep 23, 2007 at 2:59 pm

RE: 75, maybe, but these are WFCCC’s. Sometimes the end justifies the means. ;-)

RE:77, now that is surprising. Was there unusually small attendance at this bake sale? That reminds me of a tip I saw in a magazine about what to do with leftover brownies. I thought, who has leftover brownies? Of course, I am a mother of teenage boys. We don’t have much leftover anything, especially during football season.

Up to 11,000,394! Congratulations, Scott! You da man!

  • 88 camojack // Sep 23, 2007 at 4:15 pm

So…one of my comments could very well have been the eleventeenth million, huh? :-)

  • 89 Ms RightWing, Ink // Sep 23, 2007 at 4:32 pm

    shelly

You have to understand. Living in government housing with seniors who all suffer from diabetes, and HUD residents who suffer, but they don’t know from what. You get my drift, in most cases the lights are on but nobody is home.

Those who set up the sale should have opened it to the public then I assure you, not a crumb would be left behind.

  • 90 Beerme // Sep 23, 2007 at 6:06 pm

I wouldn’t think of extorting but, of course, I’ll be happy to accept any WFCCC’s given freely-plain brown wrapper or not!

The pics are in the (e)mail…

Well! I get back this beautiful night and find that not only 11teenth million visitors has come and gone, but 1152 more have joined in the frantic reading. I missed the big moment. Sigh….

Mig, re #85: I guess that I should tell that commentator that he needs to have his camera ready because a green aura is going to surround the “little twerp” and everybody’s eyelids will be held up so that nobody blinks for a good 27 minutes while he holds them spellbound. Everyone at Columbia will immediately know that he is the annointed one of Mohammed to usher in the second coming of the Mahdi. (ala the last time he spoke to the UN)

Feel Something. Send the Jena 6 to Iraq so they can see something bigger themselves, something other than the gangster rap mentality.

    Hope Rides Alone
    :by Sgt Eddie Jeffers,February 1, 2007

But even thousands of miles away, in Ramadi, Iraq, the cries and screams and complaints of the ungrateful reach me. In a year, I will be thrust back into society from a life and mentality that doesn’t fit your average man. And then, I will be alone. And then, I will walk down the streets of America, and see the yellow ribbon stickers on the cars of the same people who compare our President to Hitler.

I will watch the television and watch the Cindy Sheehans, and the Al Frankens, and the rest of the ignorant sheep of America spout off their mouths about a subject they know nothing about. It is their right, however, and it is a right that is defended by hundreds of thousands of boys and girls scattered across the world, far from home. I use the word boys and girls, because that’s what they are. In the Army, the average age of the infantryman is nineteen years old. The average rank of soldiers killed in action is Private First Class.

People like Cindy Sheehan are ignorant. Not just to this war, but to the results of their idiotic ramblings, or at least I hope they are. They don’t realize its effects on this war. In this war, there are no Geneva Conventions, no cease fires. Medics and Chaplains are not spared from the enemy’s brutality because it’s against the rules.

Eddie was killed in Iraq last week in a vehicle rollover accident. Read the whole thing and weep that these are the calibar of men we lose and Jena 6 are the ones that we’re left with.

I had intended including links to a couple of articles in American Thinker in my previous post, so, if you’re interested, here’s one and here’s the other.

  • 104 Darthmeister // Sep 24, 2007 at 10:09 am

Has anyone else noticed that Ahmadamnnutjob looks like a Flying Monkey from the Wizard of Oz?

I hadn’t realized interspecies cloning had progressed so far.

  • 105 Darthmeister // Sep 24, 2007 at 10:14 am

    AP - New York

Ahmadinejad appeared surprised by the storm over the wreath-laying, telling CBS television: “Why should it be insulting?” He said he would not insist on visiting the site if city officials could not arrange it.

But foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini insisted a visit to Ground Zero was still on the itinerary.

“The visit to the site of the twin towers to pay tribute to the victims is part of president Ahmadinejad’s program even if some people are trying to have it cancelled,” he said.

In this case the term, “the victims”, means those Islamofascist nutjobs who flew the jetliners into the Twin Towers. The people who died in the WTC towers were simply “little Eichmanns”.

I wonder if Ward Churchill is having dinner with Iranian President Ahmadamnnutjob tonight?

mig, thank you for post #100. I couldn’t agree more, especially with the part about us being “left” with the “Jena 6.” One Sgt. Eddie Jeffers is worth millions of the “Jena 6″ and their ilk. God rest his soul, and I pray for the peace that passes understanding for his surviving family members. God, and any person who has an ounce of wisdom and insight, knows that Sgt. Jeffers’ life meant something…that his sacrifice means something in this world.

On the flip side, we have useless thugs of all races, sexes and ethnicities, who take up space, contribute nothing but trouble, and expect to be handed everything. You know…your typical Clinton/Obama/Edwards voters. Would that we could send all the gang-bangers, drug-dealers, able-bodied welfare recipients, and the like to Iraq. They love to create violence, mayhem and social chaos here at home…give ‘em a good dose of what they seek elsewhere. Make them earn their freedom of expression, since they choose to express themselves in perpetually negative ways.

An oldie from my newspaper days. Warning, this satire is not politically correct, but what ever is that I write

PLEASE DON’T POKE AT THE ARTICHOKE JOKES

Stardate, June 14, 1980. After a long night of driving through thick fog and narrow two lane highways, I pulled into Kingtree, South Carolina. After backing up to the dock, a lanky southern lad unloaded my 53 foot trailer full of dog food. By the time he finished pulling off the pallets and breaking them down it was time for lunch, though my Minnesota timepiece said breakfast.

Oh my goodness this Amookagoner is preaching! How do the libs accept that? They want Bush bashing. Doesn’t Amookamuck know this? If he wants U.N. support, why doesn’t he bash the war, the military and its’ commander?

Ah now we’re getting somewhere, Why are the Palestinian people paying the price for the holocaust if it happened? There we go, now we’re getting somewhere. If he ends on this note and not that it is a divine quest to study science, he’ll get a standing ovation…
