(2007-07-02) — Ending years of speculation, President George Bush today commuted the 30 month prison sentence of former vice presidential aide I. Lewis ‘Scooter‘ Libby, yet urged a nervous nation to remain calm even though Mr. Libby is “on the loose.”
“Even with this convicted criminal roaming the streets,” said Mr. Bush, “The neighborhoods of our homeland remain safer than a lot of places in the world.”
Mr. Libby, convicted of obstruction of justice for misleading investigators during a federal probe into who leaked the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame, must still pay a $250,000 fine and register with local law enforcement so neighbors are aware of his presence and the potential threat.

3) The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence would back up Joe Wilson’s claim when it in fact their final report contradicted Joe Wilson’s claims that his “findings” undercut President Bush’s claims that British intelligence discovered Saddam’s agents trying to buy Nigerian yellowcake and that his wife Valerie Plame had NOTHING to do with his going to Nigeria.

It depends on which jobs are being outsourced, when and where to. Outsourcing certain jobs can be good for the American economy and its workforce. Please note: I didn’t say it would be easy for some people who worked their whole lives mounting car speakers on an assembly line and getting paid $31/hour. Or in some cases not working at all and still getting paid $31/hour.

“The Independent Counsel’s judgment that sufficient evidence existed to prosecute President Clinton was confirmed by President Clinton’s admissions (sex with Monica Lewinsky) and by evidence showing that he engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice.”

Did I ever say Clinton firing 93 US Attorneys for political/partisan reasons wrong? No. Did I think so at the time? No. But you guys say Bush firing 8 US Attorney’s “for political reasons” (well yeah! The Constitution itself makes US Attorneys political appointees because they serve at the President’s pleasure … doh! The real question is if it was partisan reasons and some within Reno’s Justice Department said there was indeed a partisan component to the firing of 93 US Attorneys) was wrong and even applauded the Leahy Inquistion into the matter! What hubris. I don’t remember Republicans conducting Congressional investigations into Clinton’s firing of all 93 US Attorney’s, do you?
Also I never railed against Clinton’s war in the Balkans as wrong. In fact, at the time, I was astonished that the anti-war crowd didn’t wet their panties when President Clinton ordered American military forces into the region without either a UN Resolution or a Joint Congressional Resolution for what he claimed was “humanitarian reasons” … one of the same justifications which were used in the October 2002 Joint Congressional Resolution for the use of American Forces in Iraq:
Whereas Iraq persists in violating resolution of the United Nations Security Council by continuing to engage in brutal repression of its civilian population thereby threatening international peace and security in the region, by refusing to release, repatriate, or account for non-Iraqi citizens wrongfully detained by Iraq, including an American serviceman, and by failing to return property wrongfully seized by Iraq from Kuwait;
Whereas the current Iraqi regime has demonstrated its capability and willingness to use weapons of mass destruction against other nations and its own people;
Clearly I’m not the double-standard hypocrite here. The same people who didn’t see a problem with what Bill Clinton did in spades now condemn President Bush. Clear proof of rank partisanship to me. So no, I never thought what Bill Clinton did in those two cases was wrong, hence I’m not a hypocrite for supporting President Bush policies in those regard. And we can also throw in the issue of “warrantless wiretaps” employed by the Bill Clinton against known criminals, though I was critical of those 400 FBI files … oops, that’s over 700 FBI files … that were found in illegal possession of the White House. But I don’t remember President Bush being accused of illegally obtaining FBI files for his dirty tricks brigade like Clinton did.
So give me an example of where I’ve condemned Bill Clinton for doing something or engaging in certain policies in which I’ve refused to condemn President Bush for doing the same thing. In these three example I cited above I’ve already pointed out your hypocrisy and that of 90% of the anti-war goons who failed to vociferously protest Bill Clinton’s “illegal and immoral” war in the Balkans.
The shoe is on the other foot, brotha, and you’re wearing it! You’re the one engaging in double-standards, not me.

A little more about 56, of course you’re not trying to pull the old apples and oranges gag, cause apples ain’t even citrus.
But, I think it could be like apples and artichokes.
In the on case Henry, the single non-violent act of an individual should not be punished by imprisonment, if other punishment might prove equally effective. But, in this case what Libby did was the kind of stuff we’ve recently been “Renditioning” and “Water Boarding” to prevent.
Libby is a member of a, well organized, no strike that! a member of criminal syndicate which has gained government control of the greatest nation on earth, and deceived many of its weak-minded citizens. These are good people with good intentions, who have been first duped, then ensnared by their own egos, which the have confused with the Voice of The Eternal One.
Libby is protecting Zorcon and Rolite by his silence, Water-boarding my be necessary!

Pardon me for saying so, but if you think pardoning a man for a measly 30 month sentence for lying before a grand jury is ’sane’ then you must have your ‘i love Bush’ hat on too tight. This man was one of around a dozen, including the president and vice president, who conspired to out a covert intelligence operative for political gain. This is at the very least reckless endangerment, if not full out TREASON!! And to make matters even worse this same president, as governor, sent a man to jail for 30 YEARS for selling pot to an undercover cop. Maybe Libby isn’t violent, but neither are the estimated 1 million “non-violent” drug offenders wasting away in prison at a cost of about 100k a year a piece. In his time as an elected official this president has presided over more executions than any man in history. And, for the record, the average sentence for obstruction and perjury in this country is about 60 months, so Libby would have been getting off light. If you or I had committed this offense, we would be locked up until our grand-children were grey-headed. Just imagine how much dirty laundry this man knows about. If you ask me, that is why he isn’t in jail. He plays ball. It reminds me of a scene from the movie “Goodfellas” when Henry Hill gets pinched for selling cigarettes illegally, and the boss pats him on the back for it.
