Reid Hails Courage of Democrat Non-Binding Non-Vote

by Scott Ott · 49 Comments

(2007-02-18) — Moments after Republicans in the senate blocked a Democrat attempt to vote on a non-binding resolution expressing disapproval of a U.S. troop surge in Iraq, Majority Leader Harry Reid hailed the non-vote as “perhaps the greatest Democrat military accomplishment of the past 40 years.”

“History will celebrate the moment that our brave new Democrat majority forced an unsuccessful cloture vote on the filibuster of a measure that would have symbolically ended the troop surge,” said Sen. Reid. “And in November 2008, when Americans go to the polls, they’ll ask themselves ‘Who stood up for our freedom to express displeasure and very nearly secured it?’.”

Sen. Reid devoted 20 or 30 seconds to recounting in detail the great moments in Democrat military policy during the past four decades, then said, “I predict that years from now, a history book or pamphlet will be written about this act of heroism on a Saturday afternoon, when a few bold individuals sacrificed their golf games to answer the call of duty and very nearly voted on a measure that would have virtually turned the tide in this war.”

The Nevada senator added that the lack of a vote on the non-binding resolution would “serve as a great encouragement to U.S. troops overseas.”

“By almost showing the Senate’s disapproval of Bush’s plan to send 21,500 more troops,” he said, “we demonstrated our desire to protect our men and women in Iraq from the overcrowding on their bases and in their barracks that the president’s plan will surely cause.”

“. . . 20 or 30 seconds to recounting in detail the great moments in Democrat military policy . . .”

Sen. Reid has always been one to embellish the truth, but tripling the length of his speech seems downright . . . courageous.

Thanks to the power of on-demand publishing, that book is available now on Amazon. Look for Profiles In Scourge, available in hardcover and paperback.

Peel back the onion layers of Sen. Reid’s bloviations and you will find that he, as a typical Dhimmicrat, has no there there.

Good grief! The clock-radio snapped on with the news at the top of the hour, and what do I hear but Mt. Tedster roaring his outrage over losing the opportunity to bluster further over the Dhimmi’s vacuous resolution like a bull penned away from opportunities to direct his cash cows elsewhere. The man is not far from succumbing to apoplexy.

Contrast the Old Bull’s show-time hollowness (mixed metaphor alert!) to the cool statesmanship of Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a real leader in McConnell. Let us express our appreciation of his eloquent support on behalf of our nation and its troops.

Now, on to the important business of the legislature that the White House reminds those charged with serving and protecting our nation and its Constitution is its primary duty.

God already has blessed America in myriad ways. May He continue to protect her from those who undermine her promise of liberty.

(Aside: Santini, that line about Mollohan in your ditty yesterday had me in stitches. Bravo- again!)

PROVIDING aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime is treason. It’s not “just politics.” It’s treason.

And signaling our enemies that Congress wants them to win isn’t “supporting our troops.”

Let me see if I understand what just happened…
I’m in my foxhole with about 200 rounds of ammo and outnumbered about 10 to 1. Congress is more than willing to buy all the ammo that I need to do the job but doesn’t furnish the manpower to have someone bring the ammo to me and for heavens sake will not send anyone to help.
It’s pretty clear as to why the Dems should not be running the country….

  • 16 Deerslayer // Feb 18, 2007 at 9:36 am

Why the nerve of the GOP and blocking our non-binders. Just where do they think they get off.

Famous words from the annals of Democratic history:
“Nothing like letting your perhaps be your perhaps and your maybe nots be your maybe nots.”

“Pass the hissy fit towel while I go back in my office and cry me a hissy fit.”

Also in the great words of our brave Vietnam era leader, Jump the Wall John Kerry, “Ah go ahead and hook the electrodes up to my (delete) I give up.”

Remember students, you can fool some of the people some of the times and all of the people all of the time, but you can’t out fool a fool

“Courage” and “honor” are oxymorons when applied to Democrats. John Murtha has desecrated his “highly decorated” designation.

The perpetual troll once took me to task about how “harvesters of eyes” would be less boring than musings on cigarette smoking. That question, and several others, is answered over at United Possums International. Two new posts await.

    Thank you, Great Scott.

  • 28 Possumtrot // Feb 18, 2007 at 7:51 pm

Basically, the harvester of eyes is The Enemy, i.e. Satan. Those eyes watch you as you descend into Hell.

This for you’uns that ain’t gonna visit United Possums International. Those who make false promises are harvesters of eyes.

It’s all rock & roll mythology. Learn more by chasing the link. It’s less obscure than Murtha’s stealth dishonoring and abandonment of the troops in Iraq.

He’s a Nam vet; is there some lingering resentment that he got hung out to dry there? I suppose the alienists are correct; like an abused child, he now wants to whack others around.

Meanwhile, Madame Defarge/Pelosi sits and knits as the guillotine falls.

Harry Reid is unspeakable. I have no comment on him that can be published here. Those familiar with adult commentary can make up their own adjectives.

    On Cap Hill…Demos flail…
They want Iraq war to fail
    Demo creampuffs are squishing along

    Imbued with…power lust…
    “Another Viet Nam, or Bust!”
Demo creampuffs sing same losers’ song

    Led by Land-Baron Reid
    Turban Durbin, Shrillary
    Their strategy is cut-and-run

    Dems revile troop surge
    Their Politburo purged
From their ranks “Lonesome Joe” Lieberman

    2. NAVY

[Tune: “Anchors Aweigh”, music and lyrics by Lt. Charles Zimmerman and (USNA) Midshipman Alfred H. Miles]

    Let’s slink away, my boys
    Irresolute
    Dems shriek loud bug-out noise
They’re such stalwart galoots (of disrepute)

    Their harlotry’s up-front
    Reid is their pimp
    Rather than fight, they punt
Known, far and wide, as US defense wimps

    3. COAST GUARD

[Tune: “Semper Paratus”, music and lyrics by Capt. Francis Saltus Van Boskerck]

Dems always sound the retreat call
They place their trust in talk
They’re held in thrall by UN’s stall
    Its blither, dawdle, squawk

    “Semper-Sell-Out-Us” is Dems’ guide
    Advance to rear with pride
    “Iraq is hopeless,” Dems impart
    Their idol is Jean-Paul Sartre!

    4. AIR FORCE

Off Dems go, fleeing for Okinawa
Turning tail, look at ‘em bail
    Latter-day Tokyo Rose, Lord Haw-Haw
    “Redeploy…to New South Wales!”

Took a dive, their resolution boltered
With sonic booms and gaseous roars!
Cheap postures, games…leave troops in flames…hey!
    Democrats, tawdry Parliament of Whores

    5. MARINE CORPS

[Tune: “The Marines’ Hymn”, music and lyrics by an unknown Marine author, shortly after the War with Mexico]

    With sad wails of Gloom-and-Doo-oo-ma
    Demos ditch the Iraqis
    They pee in their Fruit-of-the-Loo-oo-m™as
    At the prospect of victr’y

First to “slow-bleed” troops in battle
Have no honor to keep clean
    Benedict Arnolds will prattle
    Traitorous Dem Raging Queens

    6. [“The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, lyrics by Julia Ward Howe, written to the tune of the marching song, “John Brown’s Body”, by Thomas Bishop]

    [Verse]
Our eyes have seen the ruthlessness
    Of all jihadi hordes
Demo ostriches, with heads in sand,
    Prescribe parleys, accords

Earth to Dems: Your tired nostrums
    Only whet Islamist swords
    They only respect brawn

    [Chorus]
    Islamofascists, you can’t sue ‘em
Our troops will screw, blue, and tattoo ‘em
    Peacenik bromides lead to doo-oom
    Dems’ tedious bleat goes on

    [Tag]

    Aquarius won’t dawn
    While Ahmed marches on
    The Dems…still…par…ty…o-o-o-o-on!

Scott, I think that you should elaborate on this theme and extend it to book version, detailing all of the nonbinding resolutions that the Democrats in the Senate have courageously recognized - like Hillary’s and Kerry’s (among others) vote on giving the President the authority to use force against Saddam Hussein. I believe that to be their most nonbinding one to date. But anyway, you can come up with quite a few of your own…and if you don’t mind my suggestion…I already have the title ready for you. Are you ready? It will be required reading for all liberal university English classes:

BTW, I tried numerous times to call ConAgra, conglomerate that owns Peter Pan peanut butter AND almost everything else), and was treated to a recording saying to throw away the jar and send the “rest of the evidence”, the lid, (my words, not theirs), to them for a refund. I remained online to speak to a person, only to get a busy signal for a three hour period, until they left for the day. Not really that surprized.

R.A.M. our newspaper had an article yesterday and it said that you could take your jars back to any store to get a refund. I think that is what I am going to do.

A friend of mine decided to treat her grand-niece and grand-nephews (in another state) to an express mail treat and made a batch of Rice Kispies treats to send to them. I called her to tell her about the peanut butter recall and she was dismayed to find that the jar from which she had used PB for the treats, had a 2111 on the lid. She could not get hold of the family and worried all night. The next morning, she noticed that the postman left something on top of her mailbox and so she went out to see what it was. It was the box of treats that she had mailed a couple of days earlier, with a stamped message, “vacant-no forwarding address”. Her niece and family had moved without letting her know. Thank goodness for small favors.

ORGANIC FARMING “NO BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT”
    By Cahal Milmo
    Published: 19 February 2007

Organic food may be no better for the environment than conventional produce and in some cases is contributing more to global warming than intensive agriculture, according to a government report.

… David Miliband, the Environment Secretary, drew a furious response from growers last month when he suggested organic food was a “lifestyle choice” with no conclusive evidence it was nutritionally superior.

    Imagine that.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A local cab driver allegedly tried to run over two customers after a fight over religion became heated.

The incident happened early Sunday morning on the Vanderbilt campus and left one man hospitalized and a cab driver arrested, said police.

Two students visiting from Ohio were coming from a bar downtown when they got into an argument with their driver over religion, said police. After they paid the driver he allegedly ran them down in a parking lot.

Ibrihim Ahmed, of United Cab, was arrested and charged with assault, attempted homicide and theft. One of the passengers, Andrew Nelson, managed to outrun the cab but Jeremy Invus was taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries, said police. Ahmed has been convicted of misdemeanors including evading arrest in a motor vehicle and driving on a suspended license, said police.

Ahmed was charged with theft because police said the license plate on his cab was listed as stolen. His bond is set at $300,000.

Yep, sounds like something Christian cab drivers do every day, eh bober? You know, running over all those atheists who mock Christianity. I guess he’s not a Muslim radical because he wasn’t found with an al Qaeda or Hezbollah membership card.

    Feb. 23, 1997
    New York City

Abu Kamal, a Palestinian teacher shoots seven tourists on the 86th-floor observation deck of the Empire State Building, killing one.

AP: He carried a note blaming the United States for using Israel as “an instrument’ against his people. The note found in Ali Hassan Abu Kamal’s pocket contains ‘rambling, angry stuff,’ and appears to contradict claims by the man’s family that the shooting had nothing to do with politics, a high-ranking police source said last night. The letter also expressed anger at France and England for using Israel as ‘an instrument’ against Palestinians, and indicated that Mr. Abu Kamal planned to vent his anger at the Empire State Building, the source said.’”

Move along, no Muslim terrorist here. But now the truth has come out after nearly ten years.

Ali Abu Kamal’s relatives say they are tired of lying about why the Palestinian opened fire on the observation deck of Empire State Building, killing a tourist and injuring six other people before committing suicide.

Kamal’s widow insisted after the shooting spree that the attack was not politically motivated. She said that her husband had become suicidal after losing $300,000 in a business venture.

But in a stunning admission, Kamal’s 48-year-old daughter Linda told the Daily News that her dad wanted to punish the U.S. for supporting Israel - and revealed her mom’s 1997 account was a cover story crafted by the Palestinian Authority.

… Since receiving the suicide note, the family wanted to redeem Kamal’s honor.

“When we wanted to clarify that to the media, nobody listened to us,” she said. “His goal was patriotic. He wanted to take revenge from the Americans, the British, the French and the Israelis.”

Ah, nothing like a “patriotic” Palestinian nutcase murdering innocent Americans. I guess his family is even more proud now that he “martyred” himself instead of becoming suicidal. Pretty twisted people … oh, but they’re moderates!
