San Fran Mayor Deflects Talk of ‘08 White House Bid

(2007-02-06) — San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who yesterday told staff he’s seeking treatment for alcoholism, deflected reporters’ questions about a potential presidential run in 2008.

“Just because I had an affair with a top aide’s wife, and I happen to be an alcoholic, doesn’t mean I aspire to higher office,” the mayor said in a written statement. “Drinking and adultery are just part of who I am, not some carefully-crafted image makeover designed to prepare me for a national campaign.”

Despite his denials, talk of a Newsom-Clinton ticket crackled along the Blackberry network and in the halls of the Democrat National Committee (DNC) yesterday.

“He’s playing coy right now,” said one unnamed DNC staffer. “But insiders know that his announcements in the past two weeks are tantamount to forming an exploratory committee.”

Mayor Newsom, who built his credibility in the local Democrat party as the owner of several wine and nightclub businesses, established himself as a national party icon by presiding over 3,955 homosexual “marriages” that were later struck down by the California Supreme Court which ruled that Mr. Newsom had violated state law.

“Clearly, Gavin Newsom’s star continues to rise,” the DNC source said. “He’s walking in the footsteps of the great ones, and making zero mistakes.”

  3. He sounds almost perfectly qualified to be the Democratic candidate in ‘08 except for maybe one thing. He need the bi-sexual/transgendered vote to really cement his run. Maybe he could announce that after much soul searching and counseling, he has come to fully understand and embace his sexual identity and can no longer deny his male lesbianism. Just a thought.

    Regards,

  5. MargeinMI - from FredinMI: I shout out an AMEN on your “God Bless America”, I pray daily for God’s continued blessings on our country. The way things seem to be progressing, God may just bring His judgement on America and of course He would be righteous and just in doing so. But first I pray that He will raise up another, like Ronald Reagan to lead this country and will continue with my prayers for George Bush.

  6. I don’t know about the “disobedient to parents” part but otherwise I have yet to find a more specifically detailed description of today’s Liberal Left Socialists (Communists, if you will). Talk about Biblical prophesy - Whew!

    2 Timothy 3:1-5:
    (1) This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (4) Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; (5) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

  7. Newsom had best declare that he’s a lesbian trapped in a man’s body. He’s playing politics with two of the most devious women in America, Babs Boxer and Madame Defarge Pelosi. I though Miss Hilly was the AntiChrist, but these two have her beat for diabolicism.

Perhaps Mayor Newsom and I can sit in an alley with a bottle of Night Train and watch how the girls manage things.

Haven’t dropped by for a while; love the new preview feature, Great Scott!

  8. Mayor Gavin has the whole enchilada of voters wrapped up. If you are pro-gay, then everything but the kitchen sink will follow. Pro-gay is as high as you can go in the field of libs.

After the election then comes the fighting as who is more gay than who, but for now, a bottle, a drunken night and a few more nasty deeds and he has what it takes

  9. I think Mort Kondracke expressed my sentiments about the ‘08 presidential race perfectly a few nights ago.

After analysing first the Democrats, and then the Republicans, he & Fred Barnes had the following exchange.

Fred : “Now who do you think’s going to win the general election? I mean, if I - if I held a gun to your head?”

Mort : “If you held a gun to my head - in the general election?”

    Fred : “Yes”

    Mort : “I’d say, ‘Shoot.’”

  11. Oh, and Fred, lighten up dude! A point can be made by each generation (and usually is) about how unruly/ungodly/generally just plain out of control the next generation is shaping up to be. Each generation looks around and decides that the current state of affairs can’t possibly get worse, that surely these are the “end times”.
But then, a miracle happens….nothing. Life continues apace.
It’s comforting to believe that you are part of the last generation, that the world will not (cannot?) go on without you but…every generation has sought comfort in that same thought and so far…they have all been wrong (dead wrong)
    So it goes…

  14. Newsome’s a shoe-in for ‘08! He’s already thumbed his nose at the law with the “gay marriage” debacle, and I heard that his latest gal-pal is 20 years old! His affair with his former employee has proven him adept at the “sexual harrassment/misconduct” angle. The substance abuse is the icing on the cake! “Walking in the footsteps of the great ones,” indeed! Are there any corrupt Whitewater-type land deals we haven’t heard about yet? Has he “offed” any cohorts who might potentially turn “disloyal?” Move over Bill Clinton, Hitlary, Osama Obama, et al…there’s a new star on the democrat horizon!

I’d like to point out that we’ve been in the last days since the infamous incident in the Garden of Eden, which is why each generation has seen itself as being in the last days. I know this is common sense to most of us here…..

Secondly, the passage quoted is not about “the last days” per se, it is about “turn[ing] away” from those who could care less-those for whom licentiousness is their “god”. Again, I know this is common sense to most of us here…..

  35. Wow, I go to the doctor and come back to insanity. :-)

Decisions, decisions - there are just so many choices. I can’t take the pressure. Another one qualifies for candidacy?

Well, all I can say is that he should be a shoe-in for his friends up north as they try to get their ballot initiative set up for the next election. Personally, I think that maybe this could be a good thing, because then we could flood the planet with lots of little conservatives and deplete the population of liberals. Gays and Lesbians - there’s an old saying - “Be careful for what you ask…you may get it.”

Oh, and Ms Rightwing, Ink: I put pencil to paper, dusted off my old graphing calculator and plugged in the numbers and have come up with the answer: n=”pretty quick” because we are talking about a liberal here, who, after the first efforts at moving the legs, would gratefully accept a ride on Pelosi’s new, big Air Force jet. Oh yes, and the value of ‘n’ actually is another form of the value of ‘Nancy’.

  38. ♫ ♫ ♫ NEWSOM’S LOATHSOME TONIGHT ♫ ♫ ♫

[Tune: “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”, music and lyrics by Roy Turk and Lou Handman, performed by Elvis Presley; © 2007, Santini’s Parody Serenades]

    [Verse]
    Newsom’s loathsome tonight
    Faced the cameras, uptight
Said he’s “sorry” for sex with that tart

    His ex-chief of staff flipped
    Newsom’s pants flapped, unzipped
    Chief’s wife was Newsom’s round-heeled sweetheart

    [Bridge]
Now he claims he’s a boozer
    How contrived, insincere
    Dems won’t deep-six this loser
    At least he’s…not queer

    [Refrain]
    Standard soap-Oprah day
    In Baghdad-by-the-Bay
    Demos cheer, Newsom’s loathsome tonight

    [Spoken, with background music]
Why should Newsom feel loathsome tonight?
Sure, he illegally ordered issuance of thousands of
Gay “marriage” certificates, like so many
    Prizes from Crackerjack™ boxes

But in LibSpeak, insensitive laws are there
To be flouted, and “progressive” means
You never have to say you’re sorry, or pay a price

True, he concealed his sexcapades with his aide’s wife
And confessed only when the aide confronted him
So? That was just an isolated bimbo eruption
And he only lied about sex. Which proves he’s a
Mainstream Democrat, destined for higher office

Besides, he confessed his adultery and alcoholism
When he got caught, making him an up-and-coming,
    Though besotted, Demo star.

    Newsom’s Kennedy without the girth
And the Olds, Obama without the ears and
Platitudes, and Slick Willie without Hilde-Beest
And those tiresome grand jury inquiries!
    What’s not to like?

    [Tag, sung]
    On-the-make reprobate
    Anoint him in ’08!
    Dems’ bum steer…Newsom’s loathsome tonight

Thank you, all. The real tune is one of my favorites from The King, and I hesitated before using it for a parody. But Newsom is loathsome, and well….

Once upon a time, Newsom’s Judas-like sex antics would’ve gotten him a one-way ticket to Palookaville, first at the fists of the cuckolded husband, and then at the polls. Now the culprit shamelessly doesn’t resign while “taking full responsibility” for the scandal, the husband doesn’t punch out the culprit and merely resigns in a huff, and constituent morality has become so debased they look on nonjudgmentally, with bovine indifference, to such cynicism.

Must be that San Francisco state of mind.

Honestly, I couldn’t find it. The closest I could get was “woodenwheel” as in a wooden wheel or a wheel made from wood (type of wood i.e. Ash, Birch, Oak, Cedar, Maple. Walnut - etc. not specified)

As for becomed - my bad. In my wheelchair with only one arm and only one hand on the end of that arm, with four fingers and one thumb-occasionally, being only human (as I am) I make what the newspaper would refer to as a “typo”. Hello God, I called tonight
    To talk a little while
    I need a friend who’ll listen
    To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can’t quite make it
Through a day just on my own…
I need your love to guide me,
    So I’ll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,
    My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
    For whatever fate they’re bound.

Give me faith, dear God, to face
    Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can’t change in any way.

I thank you God, for being home
    And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
    When I stumble and fall..

Your number, God, is the only one
    That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you, God, for listening
