BREAKING: Bolton Quits U.N., Bush Picks Murtha

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 37 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2006-12-04) — Just minutes after accepting the resignation of U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, President George Bush announced he would nominate a candidate who would likely sail through hearings in the Democrat-controlled Senate — Rep. Jack Murtha, D-PA.

Rep. Murtha, a former Marine, recently lost his bid for House Majority Leader despite having led the Democrats to electoral victory in November under the banner of redeployment from Iraq, and a battle cry of sympathy for America’s helpless, confused troops.

“Jack Murtha is ideally suited to serve at the United Nations,” President Bush said, “He’ll fit right in as part of an organization that shares his views on military effectiveness, and his track record of bringing home the bacon. Besides, he deserves an opportunity to do something that sounds important.”

Mr. Bolton, who gained the post through a presidential recess appointment, said he would step down to spend more time with family, and to prepare for the senate hearings which will follow his nomination to the Supreme Court.

    Megalomaniac Murtha as U.N. Ambassador…now that’s strategery!!

  • 2 gafisher // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:07 pm

“… his nomination to the Supreme Court.”

    Oh, wouldn’t it be nice!

  • 3 da Bunny // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:09 pm

Like I said on the previous thread…when Bolton and Rummy bail, it’s going downhill fast!

  • 4 Just Ranting // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:11 pm

I nominate Donald Rumsfeld as US Ambassador to the U.N.!!!

  • 5 GnuCarSmell // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:17 pm

Is it too late for Murtha to get in on some “Oil For Food” action?

  • 6 gafisher // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:18 pm

Better choice for the UN would be one of the barely-secure Democrat Senators with a good Conservative, perhaps even Republican, opponent. Next best, a Dem Governor (Take Generous Genny Granholm, please!). Murtha’s doing sufficient good for the Republicans right where he is . . .

  • 7 seneuba // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:19 pm

Oh, WHEW!….for a minute there I thought Murtha was being nominated Supreme Court.

Does the U.N. matter anymore? After all, they’re about as effective and relevent as the warning tags on matresses.

  • 8 Just Ranting // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:20 pm

If not, how about Rummy as U.S. Ambassador to France.

No, he’s too nice a guy to wish that upon.

  • 9 Just Ranting // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:23 pm

Hang on Condi… We need you now more than ever.

  • 10 Big Java // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:25 pm

How does one say thanks so much to the FORMER Republican majority in the senate for being so strong as to stand up for President Bush and his nominee???

  • 11 Possumtrot // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:39 pm

I’m still stuck on stupid, and 12-steppin’:

    God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

    the courage to change the things I can;

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Buckle up, kids. The next two years are going to be a rough ride.

  • 12 Darthmeister // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:44 pm

John Murtha at the UN? Now we’ll have peace in our time.

  • 13 Possumtrot // Dec 4, 2006 at 12:47 pm

I knew this one was a “Great Scott-gimme” since it hit the news this morning. The best man goes down, and people are being murdered for Playstations. No wonder the radical Islamics are laughing at us.

“Rep. Murtha, a former Marine, recently lost his bid for House Majority Leader…”

Too bad he didn’t lose his bid for re-election as well.

  • 19 RedPepper // Dec 4, 2006 at 5:28 pm

Murtha really is the perfect choice to send to the U.N. !

We just need to make sure they keep him …
particularly when they are relocated to Havana

Did anyone happen to save the link to that moving map of the middle east I shared about 2 weeks ago? or remember which thread it was on? I’d appreciate a repost. Thanks!

As much as the entire uncivilized world hates us, there is but one perfect nominee to the U.N., Sadaam Hussein !! I can just feel the love already.

  • 22 MargeinMI // Dec 4, 2006 at 8:38 pm

I nominate Slick Willy, on the condition they move somewhere else.

    Here ya go, MargeinMI:

While Voinovich shed tears over Bolton’s earlier nomination, Chafee crows over his stalemating the re-nomination, and Jon Carry gets his belittling soundbite in to criticize Bolton. Take a look at what our ambassador to the UN actually accomplished in his short time there, and ask who had America’s interests at heart and who attempted to make the UN more accountable.

Well, all I can say is that Bush is no Harry Truman. If that had been Harry, he’d a told Congress, “Filibuster till Hell freezes over, boys. We just won’t have an ambassador in the UN. They can just scam the world without us.”

I am so disappointed in Bush.

    C.A.T.s,

    re: 24

Amen Sister, on both counts. I think history will treat
Bush as Nixon without the scandal. A very disappointing Presidency. Better than anything the dhimms would have had to offer but disappointing none the less.
Talk about damning with faint praise!!

Where oh where is the next Ronald Reagan?

BTW, fabulous post the other day.

    Regards,

Bolton for Supreme Court - best idea I’ve heard in awhile. Failure to confirm? Re-nominate: Failure to confirm? Re-nominate etc., etc., and so on and so fourth for the next two years. Two dozen re-nominations, and then one more, until the Dems are mumbling Bolton’s name in their sleep. I don’t think there is a Constitutional limit on the number of times a person can be nominated. Is there?

Personally I think Barney Frank should be nominated for the UN post. It will help show the world, particularly peace loving Muslims who never behead gay people like conservative Christians do, how diverse America really is.

Ah, there you are! Howdy Hank. I think Dick Cheney (whose daughter is, well you know) should step down as VP, grab his shotgun and head for Turtle Bay. (heh, they thought The ‘Stashe was mean.) Then Condi can get a couple of years experience as VP before she runs in ‘08.

    Just my dream…..

    Morning each and all

I took a stand to run for a political office and yesterday was election time. Needless to say if I won everyone at Scrapple would have known. It was a small vice president position-but needless to say I still lost so now I can share in the deep agony of defeat.

In many ways I feel free, knowing the board meetings and bickering of liberals with their head in a dark orifice will not be aggravating the living crap out of me. Cheney and others, let us go together, shoot a deer and have a soda to celebrate.

  • 36 RedPepper // Dec 5, 2006 at 8:26 am

But perhaps Muslims cannot be blamed for expecting special treatment, as well as believing that jihad is righteous and decreed by the Almighty. The West constantly goes out of its way to confirm such convictions. By criticizing itself, apologizing and offering concessions — all things the Islamic world has yet to do — the West reaffirms that Islam has a privileged status in the world.

Islam gets concessions; infidels get conquered
