Murtha to Redeploy from Leadership Battle

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 19 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2006-11-16) — With the battle for House Majority Leader threatening to spark “civil war” within the Democrat party, one of the combatants, Rep. Jack Murtha, D-PA, today announced a new victory strategy designed to “win the peace.”

“I’m going to pull out, or rather, redeploy to a committee chairmanship,” said Rep. Murtha, “We have to stop all the sniping and political bombshells. We need to change direction, because we can’t win this battle.”

The Pennsylvania lawmaker said his move was not a retreat, but rather “another way of defining victory.”

His opponent, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-MD, immediately declared himself to be House Majority Leader, and then informed Rep. Murtha that “unfortunately, no committee leadership posts are available…at this point.”

I would think that new faces would be de rigueur across the board for leadership positions in both parties.

Of course, I don’t really mind the train-wreck-watching sensation I’m having with the Democrat party-despite my assurance that it means a bleak near-future for the USA.

As for the Republicans, I’m just hoping that their recent choices are simply the result of grogginess as an aftereffect of the recent TKO which, surely (oh, please, please), they will snap out of.

Kinda, sorta related to the topic of the national direction is Newt Gingrich’s op-ed at the WSJ today.

Gingrich claims that the country’s leadership must determine what kind of bipartisanship it should seek: a liberal one or a conservative one. The latter choice is more far-seeing, he asserts.

“This choice of which strategy to follow domestically has an enormous implication for national security. A liberal coalition will focus narrowly on Iraq and seek to avoid thinking about the scale of threat we face internationally. A conservative bipartisan coalition will look first to the larger threat to American security and will then seek to find solutions in Iraq to strengthen American security. It is hard to see how a liberal coalition will be able to look at the larger threats to our safety, even when the threat, articulated in this warning by Vice Admiral Patrick Walsh, is clear: ‘What we are talking about today is an ideology that thrives on murder, intimidation and fear. It puts innocent people at risk, particularly those in open societies. What we are talking about are people who worship death itself.’

“Thus the decision about which bipartisanship to pursue with regard to a legislative agenda and the Iraq war becomes for the Bush administration a decision about how safe and how prosperous America will be under divided government.”

    C.A.T.’s,
    re:# 31 prev thread

Glad to hear your daughter is back on her feet. To paraphrase Dick Gephardt, who never said anything memorable, “She’s one of the winners of life’s lottery.”

The fact that she is now reemployed couldn’t have had anything to do with her education, determination or parental support and encouragement, especially with 4.7% unemployment… how could anybody expect to find a job? And a better paying one to boot!! She’s just one lucky “life’s lottery winner!”

Thank goodness that the Democrats will soon be in control so that they can repeal the welfare reform that helped so many to get off public assistance over the last ten years. Soon all those people, who so heartlessly had their lives made better, will be able to return to the hopelessness and desperation of womb to tomb government support that is the Constitutional right of every resident, legal or otherwise of this formerly great country.

    Regards,

I just keep thinking of the Democrats as the “Stewards of Gondor”. Mere caretakers, albeit it very poor ones, with no honor and nothing but a lust for power.

I could go on and on… just watch the movie and you’ll know what I mean.

“Victory is not a strategy.” “Redeployment is not retreat.” “Not at this time.” I wonder what history will record as the Murtha of all quotes from this sorry excuse for a legislator.

“Land of Denial”. You are so clever Hank; even if it does somehow sound a bit familiar. I sure the ROFLOL Scrapplefaces will love it.

For those of you who like the title I recommend Bob Woodward’s “State of Denial”. Hank, everthink, maybe can sue Woodward for plagiarism.

There is an acronym that applies to this internecine food fight: WETSU.

It’s not family-friendly, so I won’t go further. Look it up, or use your imagination.

And this is just the beginning of the execution of “The Plan” by Those People!

  • 18 Laughing@You // Nov 16, 2006 at 3:08 pm

    Hey Possum,

It’s been a long time; I hope you’re doing better, and better.

“Internecine” food fight, I had to look it in my new dictionary; but, even that, seems a substantial over statement. I agree completely with your statement WETSU though! “The Plan”, however, is HTLSOBASAP-I-IN.

Now, that’s inside stuff, you can’t even look it up. Possumatize on it for a while. If, you have too much trouble, Ill tell you; but, don’t tell the DinkDumpster, OK?

Murtha objects to the dredging up of his role as an unindicted co-conspirator because the story is so old. His being a “highly decorated veteran” is an even older story. With Murtha’s selective memory, does he propose that both issues be dropped?

Character counts, Mr. Murtha, and you and your buddy Alcee leave much to be desired on that issue.
