Lautenberg & Mondale Spark Brylcream Revival
(2002-10-29) — The renaissance of septuagenarian former Senators Frank Lautenberg and Walter F. Mondale has sparked an entrepreneur to revive the Brylcream brand. The hair ointment was popular in the United States from the 1950s into the 1970s.
“I figured if the DNC can bring back Fritz and Frank, that’s pretty slick,” said entrepreneur Emil Eyant. “Being a marketing guy, I want to ride the wave, so I was thinking DNC…Mondale…slick…Brylcream. It was a like a brainstorm.”
Mr. Eyant said there was no consumer demand for Brylcream, but the name is still well known, so it’s worth a shot.
“Recycling an old name is easier than coming up with fresh ideas,” he added.
