(2006-01-25) — Google, the world’s best-known Internet search engine, this week gained entry into the lucrative Chinese market by agreeing to censor search results according to communist government guidelines, and to change the text on the site’s ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ button.
The new site, Google.cn, will help the People’s Dictatorship of China “to protect its citizens from dangerous political ideas that can spread like viruses and shutdown operating systems,” according to a joint statement by unnamed company and government sources.
The California-based company also announced that its trademarked button that takes the user directly to the top search result will, on the Chinese site, further demonstrate Google’s cultural sensitivity with the new label “I’m Feering Rucky.”
