Saddam Calls for Regime Change in Iraq

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · No Comments

(2002-10-21) — In an effort to foil U.S. plans for a bluntly-worded U.N. resolution against Iraq, Saddam Hussein has made another move to apparently comply with U.S. demands.
The Iraqi president today called for regime change in the Republic of Iraq.
The announcement follows a series of compliance moves-release of political prisoners, return of Kuwaiti archive materials, invitation to unfettered weapons inspections.
“The U.S. can have no motivation to attack Iraq,” said Saddam, “since I myself agree with the Great Satan’s demands. I call for regime change in my own country. I challenge the people of the Republic of Iraq to rise up and throw off the yoke of tyranny under which they have labored these 23 years.”
Saddam even suggested that a single bullet would be cheaper than fighting off a U.S. invasion.
The French delegate to the U.N. immediately called for a withdrawal of the Iraq sanctions resolution.
“What more can we ask of this honorable leader?” the French delegate said. “He has said he will do everything we asked him to say he will do.”
