CNN Poll: Bush Popularity May Slip Below CNN’s

(2005-11-15) — White House officials are reportedly ‘deeply troubled’ by the latest CNN poll which shows that President George Bush is less popular than ever during his presidency, and if the downward trend continues at the current pace, by 2008 Mr. Bush could become as unpopular as CNN’s primetime lineup.

The president’s approval rating hovers around 37 percent, meaning roughly 81 million adult Americans support him. CNN’s primetime programming attracts roughly 875,000 viewers, or about four tenths of one percent of U.S. adults.

“If the president’s rating continues to slip two percentage points per month,” said an unnamed CNN pollster, “the number of his supporters will drop below the current number of CNN viewers sometime in spring of 2008.”

The spokesman acknowledged that the “crossover point” could move to late 2008 or early 2009 in “the unlikely event that CNN’s ratings also continue to decline.”
