(2002-10-15) — Word that K-Mart, the bankrupt discount store, may be testing a new gray and lime green logo sent the stock market soaring on its biggest four-day rise in almost 70 years.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up more than 378 points at 8,255.68 today in heavy trading.
Market analysts say the only thing different in the business world since this time last week is the news that one K-Mart store near Detroit is testing the new logo and a fresh store design.
“That’s the kind of hopeful sign the market has been looking for,” said one analyst. “Stocks seem to have languished under a curse for weeks. But now that K-Mart has broken the spell, a lot of stock brokers can smell 10,000 again.”
Focus groups are still gawking at the lime green K-Mart sign, but early anecdotal evidence indicates it’s a winner.
