(2005-03-04) — The Bush administration’s foreign policy blunders threaten to “drive a wedge through the Arab world destroying the unity which has kept the middle east peaceful for decades,” according to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Mr. Annan’s remarks come just hours after Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah told Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to immediately withdraw Syrian troops from Lebanon.
“Bush has sown discord and disharmony among these peace-loving, stable regimes,” the Secretary-General said. “If he stays on this disruptive path, we may see the demise of a whole culture — a way of life. The world will know whom to blame for this tragedy.”
The U.N. Security Council today takes up debate on a resolution condemning the U.S. and sending a delegation to the middle east “to halt the imminent decline into untrammeled liberty.”
