Syrian Troops to Monitor Lebanon Pull-Out
by Scott Ott

(2005-03-10) -- The recently re-appointed Syrian-backed Lebanese prime minister today announced that Syrian troops would monitor the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon.

"To ensure a peaceful transition to full Lebanese sovereignty, Syria has agreed to send 14,000 soldiers to oversee the pull-out of its 14,000 soldiers from our territory," said reinstated Prime Minister Omar Karami, who was forced to step down just 10 days ago by popular protests. "The new Syrian troops will remain in Lebanon for the foreseeable future to ensure that Syria complies with the 1989 agreement to remove Syrian forces from our nation."

Mr. Karami recaptured his leadership post on the strength of support from Hizbollah, the United Nations-backed Shiite Muslim party responsible for providing high-quality social services and terror services throughout the middle east.
