Arab Leaders Warn Palestinians of Ballot Contagion by Scott Ott (2005-01-09) -- As Palestinians went to the polls Sunday in the first democratic presidential election in the Arab world, members of the League of Arab States warned them to stay home to avoid contracting a contagion that is spread by voter-to-ballot contact. "We are deeply concerned for our Palestinian brothers," said one unnamed Saudi prince. "If they catch this contagion, they risk stunting their growth and might never ascend to full Arab statehood. There's also a significant risk that it could spread to other Arab states, and such an epidemic would be an unmitigated disaster for our way of life." In a humanitarian effort, leaders throughout the Arab world are gathering "relief supplies" to send to the region via an international agency, based in France, called 'Jihadistes Sans Frontières.' Despite the warning, one young Palestinian at a precinct in the West Bank said, "We'll take our chances with this contagion. It can hardly be worse than the blood-borne disease which already afflicts us." Donate | More Satire | Printer-Friendly | |
