Kerry: Same-Sex Couples Solve Abortion Problem by Scott Ott (2004-02-27) -- During last night's Democrat presidential debate, Sen. John Forbes Kerry tried to connect with his "base" by declaring that homosexual couples are the solution to the nation's abortion problem. "You don't see a lot of gay abortion clinics," said Mr. Kerry. "Same-sex couples almost never have unwanted pregnancies. If every man and woman in America would commit to a homosexual relationship with another man or woman, respectively, then we could virtually wipe out abortion in a generation." Mr. Kerry said he opposes President Bush's effort to amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as a monogamous, heterosexual relationship. "Same-sex marriage is an issue for states to decide," he said, "and state legislators have plenty of time to decide such things because, since the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade ruling, states don't have to waste time debating abortion." Presidential rival John Edwards agreed, but said that he would be the better candidate to debate Mr. Bush on the homosexual abortion solution since, unlike Mr. Kerry, Mr. Edwards opposed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
