CIA Director Warns Against 'War Probe Malfunctions' by Scott Ott (2004-02-06) -- As President George Bush announced the appointment of a commission to "objectively assess pre-Iraq war intelligence", CIA Director George Tenet warned the panel about the risks of "war probe malfunctions" which might reveal things that should remain undercover. "We've all been reminded recently what can happen when one attempts, in a public forum, to uncover something which is better left concealed," said Mr. Tenet. "What we do is valuable precisely because it is discreet. I'm concerned that this investigation could be prone to accidental outings, that could expose our people and thus devalue their work." In related news, CBS announced it will work with MTV Productions to carry the commission's proceedings as they happen. "It's part of our public service," said an unnamed CBS spokesman. "We're going to turn on young people to government, just like we piqued their interest in professional football last week." Donate | More Satire | Printer-Friendly | |
