In what retired military experts call “the most ingenius move in modern warfare”, the regime of Saddam Hussein has replaced the city of Baghdad with a replica, which highway signs identify as Aucuneville.
Lieutenant General William Wallace, commander of American ground forces, said, “The city we found is different from the one we war-gamed in.”
Pentagon planners refused to speculate about whether Baghdad was completely destroyed by bombing or has simply gone underground.
