Bloomberg: Expand ‘No-Buy List’ to Close ‘Terror Gap’

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 44 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2010-05-06) — In the wake of Saturday’s failed Times Square bombing by a quiet, suburban Connecticut Dad, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg today called on Congress to close the so-called ‘terror gap’ in the sale of guns, gasoline, fertilizer, fireworks, propane, clocks and Sport Utility Vehicles.

“The FBI ought to be able to block the sale of these items, and perhaps others, to American citizens who have not yet been charged with a crime, but who are viewed as potential threats by the FBI,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “Anyone who opposes closing the ‘terror gap’ is essentially an accessory to terrorism…a virtual member of al Qaeda, and a threat to our national security. In fact, opposition to my sensible proposal ought to provide grounds for putting someone on the no-buy list.”

The mayor’s call to expand the ‘no-buy list’ follows his testimony Wednesday before a Senate panel at which he called for granting the FBI power to reject gun purchases by citizens on the terror watch list.

Upon further reflection, Mr. Bloomberg said he realized that alleged Times Square dud-bomber Faisal Shahzad not only failed to use his Kel-Tec Sub 2000 weapon in commission of a crime, but may have never actually discharged the weapon since its legal purchase earlier this year.

“However,” he added, “any terrorist wannabe can get propane, gasoline, fireworks, fertilizer, clocks and SUVs — in other words, parts for a weapon of mass destruction — from local merchants without any kind of background check whatsoever.”

Meanwhile, in unrelated news, Mayor Bloomberg continued to warn against “ethnic or religious profiling that would treat adherents of certain peace-loving religions as any more like to commit acts of terror than people in general.”

“We have no tolerance for acts of intolerance,” the New York City mayor added.

Mayor "Ma" Bloomberg fails to mention some of the most dangerous items that can be obtained from local merchants (supermarkets for example) : salt, trans-fats and cigarettes …

Where's our government when you need 'em?

It was gracious of Bloomberg to take time away from his no-SALT talks to weigh in on the issue. This pronouncement is way up there in relevancy like his observation earlier that the wannabe bomber may have been unhappy with O-care.

Ah "no tolerence for intolerence, I can see that. Fertilizer…and the wrong kind at that. I still stand in awe how stupid the typical terrorist is. Thankful and awed!

Perhaps Bloomberg should also place a ban on the sale of tea, since he and his libtard ilk keep clinging to the hope that acts of terror and violence are being propogated by those awful right-wing "teab*gger$." [I hate that disgusting term. How very classy of Barry, et al to use it...NOT!] Bloomberg, his cohort, the perky Katie Couric, and that mindless PMSNBC news "reader" Contessa Brewer are extremely disappointed that Shazaaam turned out to be a registered democrat, Bush-hating, Pakistani. They were so hoping for an angry middle-aged, "raaaaacist," Tea-Partying white guy to be the perp. WAAAAHHHH!

For such a smart guy as Bloomberg is, sometimes he can be a real dope. This is another one of those times.

I think "salivating" is the term. Keith Olber-mein-furher would have had a field day with that.

    You beat me to it!

Don't you wonder who else may have been removed from that terror-watch list by the ObaMao administration? The web of jihadist contacts Shazaaaam had is awfully telling, too.

A caller on Rush's show today said that an entertainment program rooted around this dimbulb's home and found all kinds of documents, including an old passport, that the FBI had not seized as evidence. Now, will that evidence be considered inadmissable since no assurance of its chain of custody has been established?

What exactly is the protocol that Holder has established since taking over at Justice? Are not many of his decisions worthy of very pointed congressional investigations and possible firing?

Are we simply seeing more of the ObaMao policy of "standing with his Muslim brothers," as he claimed in one of his blockbuster autobiographies?

It's Chrissie Matthews who spews the spit when he voices his displeasure. Keeping their secretions under control seems to be a problem with PMSMBC. Maybe O-Care will address that issue somewhere in those 2,500+ pages.

“We have no tolerance for acts of intolerance,” the New York City mayor added.

Sounds like something he might say…and isn't he (technically) a Republican?!

  • 17 onlineanalyst // May 6, 2010 at 10:01 pm

Back to the thread topic: The more the Mayor of the Big Apple speaks, the more that the "bloom" is off the "burg."

I would have much preferred a President Guiliani than the ObaMao crew currently serving. In fact, Rudy was the first candidate that I had sent campaign funds to back in 2007.

I wasn't going to mention Kent State this 40th year hence because I have already done so more than once in the past; that is, until I read this article at American Thinker which, for me, reiterated the historical relevance of May 4, 1970 to today's current events and to the future.

Whether the headline news focuses on the Times Square near-miss, the BP oil rig blowout, the WV mining disaster, the passage of AZ's illegal aliens' bill, or the flooding in Tennessee, they continue to fawn over their favorite president…with misinformation, whitewash, or omissions. Has ObaMao even given a cursory shout out to the folks in Nashville? What exactly has his administration done in NOLA? Back in 1994, a protocol was put into place for the federal government to follow in case of an ecological disaster such as a oil spill.

Don't worry though. ObaMao warns graduating students at Howard University that having too many sources of information is "dangerous" to democracy. He would prefer that the WH version of TASS or Pravda or China's or Chavez's method of controlling the message determines what we need to know.

  • 35 boberin // May 10, 2010 at 12:51 pm

That was my impression. A whole lot of hoopla about making it illegal to bew illegal…and I'm not at all sure how that works/why it would be required…silly me, I thought being an illegal alien was already illegal. I couldn't believe when anyone got upset…but then I'm a tad slow on the uptake

The following sentence jumped directly into my visual cortex as I perused an article over on BigGovernment this morning [I hope you don't mind me sharing stuff]:

A popular slogan of the Italian Fascists under Mussolini was, “Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nulla contro lo Stato”—meaning, “Everything for the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.”

  • 37 boberin // May 12, 2010 at 4:26 pm

California? Confusion? Constant flux? Which "state" are we referring to?

Just thought I'd peek in and say that it really should not sadden the Democrat party so much [weeping, wailing, et cetera] that Snarlin' Arlen will no longer carry the banner of narcissism as its poster boy in DC. Watch for him on Joy Behar soon, promoting his NYT worst-seller.

I know that, in his quest for objectivity, BHO reads all of my blog comments, so:

It's not about so-called "Immigration Reform." It's about the border.

Today's article by Mark Steyn paints an eerie portrait which provides some real insight into BHO, misanthrope/budding sociopath.
