Retiring SEIU Boss Stern Wants More Time with The Family

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 35 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2010-04-13) — As word leaked through The New York Times of the impending announcement of the retirement of Andy Stern as chairman of SEIU (Service Employees International Union), an associate of Mr. Stern, in an encrypted email from an undisclosed location, said the powerful union boss was stepping down “to spend more time with The Family.”

While the associate didn’t specify which Family members, Mr. Stern did visit the White House more than 20 times during the first six months of the Obama administration, and saw one of his top union associates become White House political director, and another get appointed to the National Labor Relations Board.

Although Mr. Stern can take satisfaction in achieving his goal of directing Congress and the president to pass health care reform legislation, his dream of uniting the workers of the world with the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) remains unfulfilled.

The unnamed associate said that while Mr. Stern was disappointed that EFCA hasn’t passed yet, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had personally comforted him, telling Mr. Stern, “Take some time off. Forget about it.”

His family will have to wait.

Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Andrew Stern.

Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Everyone needs a break now and then, don't they? He's been a busy guy.

  • 3 Hawkeye_R // Apr 13, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Maybe Andy Stern figured out that Obama and his goons were using him all along. Or maybe he doesn't want to be around when the healthcare debacle hits the fan.

    Just sayin'

A "legal background" is not necessary for appointment to SCOTUS, never has been.

See, I did not know that. Thought the court and the law were intertwined somehow.

In that case lets definately put her there, that'd be a hoot

    Wiki answers…very interesting indeed…

So theoretically, if appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, a 5 year-old Brazilian boy who doesn't speak English could serve on the Supreme Court.

boberin: commondreams is a "progressive"/neo Marxist-skewed website whose data are mostly cherry-picked to push a socialist agenda. David Horowitz, himself once a Red-diaper baby who eventually grew up, has put together a great resource identifying the movers and shakers of the Left, Radical and otherwise. Check this out:

I can't go more than 1 day without adding some more of my off-topic nonsense, can I:

The FBI WARNING reported by the NYT today is accompanied by the de rigueur gratuitous references to Oklahoma City — personally, I think we should be more wary of the Charles Mansons amongst us.

That's why I'm watching everybody through that little square hole.

  • 26 camojack // Apr 19, 2010 at 4:25 am

You want a comment on that? Be careful what you wish for:

In order to be more accurate, the website should really be Commie (not common) dreams. I seriously doubt if most of the regulars here are interested in socialist propaganda, being largely conservatives an' all.

Andy Stern may be implicated in the Blagojevich trial proceedings, given that B's request for O's testimony may reveal the wheels within wheels of the wheeling-dealing for ObaMao's IL senate seat. Interesting.

On another front, how about this effective rejoinder to Clinton's inflammatory remarks about TEA party participants? http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703...

I'll say this much: They'll never beat us all down.

Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."

    "Short-sided"? Did you catch that?

    Is that anything like "short-sheeted"?

Maybe we can ask Senator Byrd about that -
