Pelosi Offers Massa Top Post to Return to House

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 110 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2010-03-10) — After telling a PBS talk show host that Democrats didn’t force Rep. Eric J. J. Massa, D-NY, out of the House because he opposes their health care reform bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today said she would drive to western New York state in an attempt to persuade Rep. Massa to return to Washington D.C.

Rep. Pelosi would neither confirm nor deny that she plans to lure Rep. Massa back by offering him the powerful chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee, a post which she said would be “a good fit”, since it was recently vacated by another New York Congressman under an ethics cloud.

“We can’t afford to lose a single independent-minded Democrat from this diverse coalition,” said Rep. Pelosi. “Our party’s strength is its ideological broadness. Unlike the Republicans, we don’t march in lock-step, and force members of our caucus to back an extremist agenda regardless of the impact on their constituents or their careers.”

The Speaker said her message to Rep. Massa would be simple: “We want you back…and we love you just the way you are.”

Mrs. Pelosi said this would be her second attempt to plead with Rep. Massa to come back.

“When I first approached him in the House locker room, he was too caught up in a towel fight with Rahm Emmanuel,” she said.

Ah, the old "towel fight"…that makes sense.

As I said a bit ago, the Dems couldn't pass a bill with a 100% majority…at least nothing worth passing. They could muck up a towel fight…

    The funniest part:
"…..Pelosi today said she would drive to western New York state….."

  • 3 boberin // Mar 10, 2010 at 1:42 pm

Can't anyone just tuck their tail and go quietly anymore? Another closet queen insisting on making a scene. On the odd occasion when I get my had caught in the cookie jar I havce enough sense to look at least midly ashamed/apologetic/sorry…and hope to make it go away with as little fuss as possible. But these days caught folks almost seem to revel in humiliation…doing all they can to keep the story alive.

    Very odd

    It's a strategy.

They're deliberately behaving like drug-addled teenagers to distract you from how dangerous they are.

No one is this ridiculous in real life …

It's a wonder that Barney Frank wasn't joining in the shower room towel-snapping fest. Was Rahm Emanuel in a tryout for the Soapy Sales Show?

Pelosi meanwhile is trying to herd her stray cats scattering because of Eric's weapons of Massa destruction. Ironically the media-happy former representative from western New York was voting no because he wants single-payer government-run health insurance. Heh, he out-progressived Nurse Nanny.

Why the push to hold Massa's ethics violations when Frank and Rangel have made whole careers out of sleaze? Just say no must have relative usefulness in the Dem caucus.

  • 7 boberin // Mar 10, 2010 at 3:19 pm

Please, please, please just shut up already…

Former New York Rep. Eric Massa said sure he groped his male staff, but never sexually misbehaved and doesn't think that rough-play with other men is unusual, even at age 50.

Even Durbin admits (in a slip up) that under ObaMaoScare, premiums will go up:

There is a good post at the link that explains how HMOs drove up the cost of health care and how HSA (Health Savings Accounts) bring them down. The latter also do not interfere with the patient's relationship with the doctor or other health provider.

Scrap the bill; it is poison, eventually bankrupting the nation.

"Why vote; just deem" is Rep. Louise Slaughter's solution to avoid a House vote on the Senate's "health scare plan"
    http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NjAyOTZk...

Is this nonsense part of the "Slaughter House Five" fix?

Our Congress just makes up rules as it goes. Why are these finaglings even called rules?

Slaughter is the dimwit who offered the anecdote of the poor person who had to resort to wearing her dead sister's dentures during the made-for-teevee "health summit."

If only folks beleived/lived that one. For some reason it's nearly ALWAYS "overlooked"/forgotten/doesn't apply to "this" (whichever) situation…

Would that there was a grain of truth in your statement. I take that back, there's a grain but it's a mustard seed…and yes, I know what I'm quoting…and…hold your hat, I DO believe it/try to live it…I don't rail against this or that action, this or that group. Karma/God/whatever…they'll be dealt with.

And as often as not they'll be dealt with in a way that mystifies me…

  • 35 RAM1 // Mar 11, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Do I need to restate the reason again? AND that it is the GOD of the Universe that repays and NOT karma?

The flesh is weak as far as vengeance goes, I do not know many people that didn't like the Death Wish movies, or Walking Tall, OR A LOT of Chuck Norris, Steven Segall, or Van Damm movies~! We ALL need work to allow GOD to "repay". Just ask the guy who shot Tiller, or the folks who busted Reginald Denny with the bricks in the riots after the Rodney King verdict or Je$$e Jack$on when he spit in the white folks food.

We ALL need to let GOD have his vengeance!

you've never seen anything that showed you quite plainly that karma exists? possibly we are at odds because of semantics…and we mean the same thing, calling it different things. I don't believe that God would be offended by the word/concept "karma"

  • 40 JamesonLewis3rd // Mar 11, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Karma is a Hindu/Buddhist principle, therefore, it is unacceptable to Almighty God and a Christian would never adopt that principle.

And Pelosi can't pretend that the United States House of Representatives voted? Aw…

  • 43 RAM1 // Mar 12, 2010 at 12:17 am

What you want to call karma, I believe is GOD paying back as HE said HE would.

While this may not be a good analogy or example, I do not believe in luck either, In fact if someone is BLESSED by God with something and they give the credit to LUCK, the BLESSING from God will probably stop!

The tie in is allowing GOD to avenge things for us and NOT give karma the credit for what belongs to HIM. Because HE promised it, NOT karma.

An Almighty God could (and surely does) choose to present Himself any way He wants. To put a limit on God is the height of hubris. How much suffering can be attributed to the altogether incorrect thinking that "our" (whoever) God is the "only" God? Millions of deaths, untold suffering can be attributed to these views…and God weeps (I know…"your" God doesn't)

And yes, I was/am aware of the "proper" context of the mustard seed for whatever that's worth

  • 46 JCougMelancholy // Mar 12, 2010 at 4:05 pm

The attributes of Almighty God are clearly and concisely delineated in His Word; as are His characteristics.

God cannot go against Himself; He is Who He is.

    To whom it may concern:
To understand the Glory of Almighty God and/or to understand suffering and its source, Genesis gives a detailed explanation.

I reply to this person's comments because they are misleading at best and I don't want an anonymous first-time visitor to think this person has any credibility just because I failed to point out the misinformation he/she espouses and I counter with the Truth. Honestly, I really don't want to have him/her go off on me nor do I want anyone else to get offended.

  • 63 RAM1 // Mar 12, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Andrew Wommack has a good response to the "just a little-(fill in the blank)-can't hurt" analogy. He uses the cookies baked with a "little" bit of dog poop in them analogy. When someone tells him that a movie is really good and there is just a "little bit" of cussing in it, he asks if they want to try his cookies that have just a "little bit" of dog poop in them, and explains it is just a little bit and they will not even taste it.

A "little" leaven leavens the whole lump.

Maybe he should go to the source instead of reading progressive re-writes and believing their lies. In any event I'm sure it will only help Beck's ratings even more. I love it when libs try to demonize conservatives, only to send the curious to their shows, who then find out who was lying all along.

Here is something that may help put the stimulus dollars and the debt we are saddling our children with. Even the left should agree since I am using the left leaning Snopes site for what a billion is, just multiply it by a thousand.

    http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/trivia/billions.asp

    Or this illustration in seconds:

1 million seconds equals 11.57 days

1 billion seconds equals 31.8 years

1 trillion seconds equals almost 32,000 years

R.A.M. : I'm kind of fond of the following illustration, which Ronald Reagan used in a speech to Congress in 1981 :

A trillion dollars would be a stack of $1,000 bills 67 miles high.

At the time, our national debt was 934 billion dollars.

The officials said unemployment may even rise “slightly” over the next few months as discouraged workers start job-hunting again.

  • 88 dazop // Mar 17, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Wow. This is one of those cases where satire can't hope to be as ridiculous as the true story.

BTW, Scott, did you know G.Trudeau is stealing your stuff? He had Roland Hedley call Geraldo "fairly unbalanced" in one of his tweets.

ObaMao racks up record-breaking debt in just four hundred some days: http://hotair.com/archives/2010/03/17/record-brea...

And look how the chips fall on who is accountable for this fiasco.

  • 94 boberin // Mar 17, 2010 at 7:53 pm

Did you see the story about how Obiwan's administration has denied more requests for information/documents than George did in the same period by nearly 2 to 1?

    Transparency my butt!

    Sigh…

NRO's John Pitney reports: On Monday, the president took time out from backroom maneuvers and backdoor deals to issue a statement celebrating “Sunshine Week”:

"As Sunshine Week begins, I want to applaud everyone who has worked to increase transparency in government and recommit my administration to be the most open and transparent ever, an effort that will strengthen our democracy and ensure the public’s trust in their government. We came to Washington to change the way business was done, and part of that was making ourselves accountable to the American people by opening up our government."

Now who can possibly say that the president lacks a sense of humor? (asks Pitney).

You cannot make up the nonsense coming out this WH>

bob: Obama has also balooned current/projected Federal deficits far beyond the marks set by Bush during his years in office. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words …

Sunshine Week, in my opinion, should be about daffodils and cool stuff from 1969.

The focus will indeed be on "jobs, jobs, jobs" if ObaMao health scare passes. Government will expand via the employment of more IRS "enforcers" who will assure compliance and expand its Big Brother capabilities.

    David Foster reports:
During a press conference held by eleven Congressional GOP doctors today, Rep. Paul Broun (R., Ga.) had harsh words for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.)

“I have three simple questions Ms Pelosi,” said Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga. “Are you so arrogant that you think you know what’s best for the American people? Are you so ignorant that you are oblivious to the wishes of the American people? And are you so incompetent that you are going to ignore the Constitution of the United States, use tricks, deceptions, bald faced lies to try to ram down the throat of the American people something that they do not want and is going to be absolutely worse for their healthcare?”

We'll know the answer by Sunday.

Scott Gottlieb of AEI says that the middle class will be hardest hit by the adoption of ObaMaoScare:

"The hardest hit won't be those earning more than $250,000 a year—the group that he says needs to "pay their fair share." Rather, it's families whose combined annual income is around $100,000 who could be crushed under this plan.

"These folks will be too "rich" to qualify for ObamaCare's subsidies, but probably too poor to easily afford the pricey insurance that the president's plan forces them to buy.

"Many of these $100K families will be obliged to buy a policy costing an average of $14,700 for the mid-level, "silver" health plan, according to the Congressional Budget Office's estimates. After income taxes, they'll be spending almost a quarter of their net income for health insurance."
