Scott Ott Concedes Lehigh County Executive Election

A note from Scott Ott…
After personally witnessing Friday’s review of precinct vote totals, by the staff at the Lehigh County Voter Registration office, I’m convinced that a recount is unlikely to produce significantly different results.

The final tally had me and incumbent County Executive Don Cunningham separated by only 870 votes out of 41,228 cast. His margin of victory came entirely from urban precincts where Democrats outnumber Republicans by three or four to one. Among the 30,000 or so voters who live outside of Allentown, I received about 2,500 more votes than he did.

While I know the final result has been heartbreaking to the many people who gave sacrificially of their time and money to this campaign, I see in this race genuine hope for a better future for Lehigh County, for our state and for our nation. No incumbent can rest on his laurels. No seat is safe. Every elected official must be called to account every day.

Very well done sir. Your devotion to your community and to your country is inspiring. We are moving into an era that calls for greater fiscal responsibility and wisdom which you would have brought to this position. But perhaps this election will serve as reminder to your opponent to keep the people of Lehigh County's best interests in mind as he carries out his duties.

Name recognition? What cheeto eater doesn’t know the name Scott Ott? Dude
Ritchie Cunningham might be big shakes in Lehigh, but Scott Ott is Nationwide!
    Scrapptacular showing.
I’m kind of bummed. It would have been great to brag at the watercooler, “I knew him way back when… No really. I was his campaign manager when he was neck and neck with Allahpundit for best political comedy blogger.”
    But so what.
    Still an amazing run.

    Thank you, Scott.

Scott : Thank you for all your efforts. Regrettably, as long as the voters continue to reward bad government with their support at the voting booth, bad government is what they will receive.

For example: In direct contradiction to repeated campaign promises, Bill Owens, the newly elected (Democrat) Representative from NY 23rd District, has voted to support the House "Healthcare reform" bill.

Just to cite one recent illustration of the principle …

    Scott,
You are the same man today as you were on weddingsday. Your opponent with his high handed "you cannot balance a budget if you ain't a politicker whose not been doin it so well" is a more humbled man, and hopefully a better public servant. Thank You for your time and effort.

    Ditto, mkk.

I am so sorry that you lost in your election bid. Your numbers were heartening though, given the disadvantage that you had in both funding and name recognition. You must have worked like a yeoman for your admirable showing. Unfortunately, conservative principles are a difficult sell in urban areas, no matter how large or small they may be.

Your gracious concession post is another tribute to your character and convictions. I hope that your loss does not dissuade you from future runs for office. Communities across America are hungering for what Sarah Palin calls candidates and elected officials "with a servant's heart."

God bless you and your family as we head into the holiday season. Take a breather from the hecticness of the campaign season, and be assured that those who voted for you recognized what we all appreciate in you.

Scott, you were the better candidate and the better man, by far. I know it was a tough race but you did a fantastic job! God's blessings be upon you good sir.

I blame it on the "yellow dog" variety of Democrats, who always vote along Party lines. My dear old Dad is still registered as a Democrat, being a union man, but hasn't voted that way for years

That's an unbelieveably good showing given the circumstances! Seriously terrific…far, far better than my man did…but then I'm certian you and your worked harder, much harder.

Might sound weird but truly isn't…congratulations!!!

    Good job Scott,sir.
keep up the good fight. Love we send out comes back to us in time……….

Like I said to via email, (similar to what boberin said above), for you to come so close with a fraction of the money and support that your opponent had, I too, congratulate you! Few people win their first time out, and as I said in that email, try for a higher office, say State Senator. Whatever office you aspire for, wouldn't it be nice if you were to win an office where you would become Cunningham's boss? ;-)
