Deal: U.N. Inspects Iran Nukes, Tehran hosts 2016 Olympics

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 81 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

Unconfirmed reports out of Geneva late yesterday indicate the Obama administration’s tough talk strategy had pushed Iran to open its newest nuclear-fuel plant to international inspectors, in exchange for the right to host the 2016 Olympics — a privilege Obama had hoped to secure for Chicago.

What? No Nobel Peace Prize for Ahmadinejad in the deal?

    Funny stuff Scott!

Then again, waiting 30 years to chat was probably needed. George was wise. After all it was 1979 when the Shah left town…and it took them a while to calm down and even still it appears that they've never really moved past that. Still miffed…ungrateful bunch that.

Congratulations are in order for our Campaigner in Chief as today's Job Figures show U.S. unemployment has returned to levels not seen since the aftermath of the Carter Administration. If the Olympics don't bring millions of jobs to the U.S. perhaps WW-III will.

  • 5 boberinyetagain // Oct 2, 2009 at 1:15 pm

I'm betting on WW3…it's how we always get "unstuck"…unfortunately. The good news is that it's very effective, result in over 100% employment…even folks that didn't want a job suddenly have one

And on the same day unemployment rises again….way to keep his eye on the ball. On an upnote someone seems to have told him that it might be a good idea to have a chat with his general in the field.

The Jurassic media is already trying to spin this slap in the face (from the IOC) as just a front for a secret strategy meeting with the General….Wow. Guess the America Loving Olympic committee must be a bunch of racists! (Maybe they just weren't impressed with the teleprompter….)

"Swimwear producers sure have their work cut out for them."

    Burka-inis?

  • 23 gafisher // Oct 2, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Regarding the unemployment numbers, the U3 figure being reported, 9.8%, reflects a method of reporting begun by the Clinton Administration which includes only those actually receiving unemployment compensation. Workers whose unemployment insurance benefits have run out are excluded; adding them moves the figure to 17% (the U6 level) which is also in the Labor Dept's report but not so widely reported. However, both of these figures depend on assumptions even the Labor Department warns are questionable; a more accurate assessment puts the actual unemployment rate very close to 22%, levels not seen since the Depression.

We need our President to deal with the real problems this country is facing, both domestic and foreign policy. If he can't handle the job he should resign; he's failed.

  • 24 boberinyetagain // Oct 2, 2009 at 7:47 pm

I'm not entirely sure how much influence the pres has over unemployment figures…either good or bad. We're screwed, that's agreed but what is the best idea?

  • 25 boberinyetagain // Oct 2, 2009 at 7:51 pm

let's be a bit fair. those voting had a choice between Chicago and Rio…I mean c'mon…can that really be considered a "choice"?

I know which one i'd choose if i had the whole world to choose from

  • 26 gafisher // Oct 2, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Don't forget Tokyo and Madrid, Bober. Neither of those was eliminated in the first round. Rio certainly had an edge in being the first southern-hemisphere venue, and honestly I hoped she'd get the nod, but Chicago's dismal showing doesn't say much for Obama's supposed persuasive powers and worldwide popularity.

  • 27 gafisher // Oct 2, 2009 at 8:14 pm

The President can't create productive jobs as he promised, but he can certainly destroy them. Obama's policies caused what could have been a temporary downturn into a full scale recession with Depression-level joblessness, and that was accomplished within his first nine months.

  • 28 boberinyetagain // Oct 2, 2009 at 8:15 pm

you are admittedly correct but again i point out…Chicago?
Does anyone want to go there? I'd think not…I've been on the outskirts a time or two and, while not glaringly unpleasant…it wasn't my choice to go and it never will be…unless perhaps to breeze into town, have dinner, take in a show and get back out…but hang there for weeks?…on purpose?…you won't get many takers

Well, I'm not sure which "Obama only" policies those might be that are destroying jobs but I'm sure that for many moons spanning all manner of governing parties that we've intentionally shipped jobs overseas in order to "enhance sharholder value" and like minded drivel…and thus today we make very little…and even now corporations are trying to "enhance shareholder value" by laying people off. All without seeming to realize who it is that would be buying their stuff…no matter where it's made

    BREAKING NEWS
Upon hearing the news of the elimination of Chicago as the host city to the 2016 Olympics the Obama Administration has launched and investigation into the IOC.

Leading the investigation is Valerie Jarrett who released a statement informing the World that she is assembling a top notch team of investigators to get to the bottom of the lies and bullying tactics used by supporters of the Olympic Games. Her special investigations team will consist of Hugo Chavez, Raul Castro, Manuel Zelaya, Muammar Quaddafi, and Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad.

Jarrett stated "Each special investigator will be responsible for their own army….ahhhh… I mean investigation team and special interrorgations." (sic).

When asked specifically about this investigation Obama answered "I haven't heard anything about Operation 'TakestheONE2know1'" - revealing for the first time the name of these joint operations.

Anything that makes Obama look bad is OK by me…so maybe enough Americans will figure out that he and his Party are not the answer. Not that the Republicans have been all that much better in recent years, but any bit better is welcome at this juncture…

  • 35 gafisher // Oct 2, 2009 at 7:47 pm

The Obamas' Copenhagen jaunt was a total waste of time, money and prestige, but it was kinda fun watching the Olympic Committee members waving those "Ø" cards and chanting "Unh-unh-uh, Barack Hussein Obama."

  • 36 gafisher // Oct 2, 2009 at 11:59 pm

I really have to disagree, Bober. Chicago is a great city my family loves to visit. My son and his wife took our two-year-old granddaughter there two weeks ago — it was her (my granddaughter's) second visit — and she talked about it for weeks before they went (she loves the aquarium). Like any big city it's got flaws, but all in all it's a beautiful place.

  • 37 gafisher // Oct 3, 2009 at 12:14 am

There's a certain level of unemployment which reflects people changing jobs, etc. below which we seldom go except during the World Wars. Except for a brief period after we were attacked in 2001, the U.S. stayed just above those historic lows throughout the Bush Administration, even while many were complaining loudly about globalization. The numbers climbed a little in very close correlation to Obama's polling numbers before the election, and since the election have climbed with each of the new Administration's anti-business actions.

As for "enhancing shareholder value," I don't know if you've got a 401K or an annuity, or maybe some money in savings, but if you do I suspect you'd encourage your bank or broker or plan administrator to invest your money where it makes the best return; that's "shareholder value" in action. Any company that ignores the bottom line will soon be adding to the soup line.

  • 40 RAM1 // Oct 3, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I agree that this made Obama look bad but the problem is, his ObamaBots will NEVER see that fact! To them, it was just the Olympic Committee being jealous of "His Majesty" or any one of a million other excuses they will use as why it made "THEM", (those evil people that turned him down), look bad and NOT him.

If the left wing-nuts cannot see that even going to try to get the 2016 games WHILE America teeters on the brink of economic collapse, while we have two wars going on, and Iran poised to becoma a nuclear power, then they will continue to be as blind as the resident Spamboy that resides here!

Don't be fooled by his, (blabberin), saying things like he thinks it was silly to go to try to get the games. That is NO WHERE NEAR strong enough, it is/was CRIMINAL to go with the other pressing issues, and was ONLY for political payback and for enriching themselves, (Oprah, Valorie Jarrett, Obama)!!!

  • 42 RAM1 // Oct 3, 2009 at 12:46 pm

The left wing-nuts have bloviated for the last 9 years how GWB made us look bad in "The World's" eyes. Under Prez Empty Suit, we are not only a laughing stock BUT, we are now in dangerous territory of being looked at as a pushover and Obama the Pansy will NOT do anything to change that.

Make up a song about that for the children to chant while bringing back the 1960's teaching of "duck and cover" for the coming nuclear attacks N.E.A.! Mmm, mmm, mmmmm!

  • 43 gafisher // Oct 3, 2009 at 12:47 pm

"Anything that makes Obama look bad …"

It's not so much a matter of making as revealing, Camo. He looked best, both nationally and internationally, to those who knew him least. Domestically his overexposure has resulted in a plummeting approval rating, and between the barely-disguised derision he netted at the G-20, and now the face-slap from the IOC it's clear the rest of the world is catching on as well.

We don't need what you are calling "ObamaBots" to get it…just enough regular folk to keep up the pressure on their representatives to prevent the Leftist agenda from being implemented, as much as possible.

    BTW, the name-calling is non-productive…

  • 48 RAM1 // Oct 3, 2009 at 3:34 pm

bober is just trying out excuse number 3 of the THOUSANDS to come that it HAD to be something other than Obama's failure to get the Olympic bid!

The excuse this time is it was the actual town of Chicago that was at fault.

Obama wanted to use that it was because he, Michelle, and Oprah were black, but the people of Rio have some "color" too, so that wasn't going to work this time! :-)

  • 49 JamesonLewis3rd // Oct 3, 2009 at 4:09 pm

When the "secret meeting" story fell apart the precision spin team tried to blame the U.S. Olympic Committee but that dog wouldn't hunt either — after all, getting into the "Final Four" is actually quite a feat. Then they came down full force on Pres. Bush, who, they said, obviously so poisoned world opinion that the U.S. had no chance. Oops — it was during the Bush Administration, long before Obama was even nominated, that Chicago was chosen to Final Four status.

It was Obama's to lose … and he did.

(Clinton's role in repeated bailouts during the failures caused by the expansion of the CRA during his tenure is the first that I have read about this issue. The comment-debate following the squib is thought-provoking, too.)

The Leftists worship BHO because, like them, he stands for nothing—and is darn proud of it.

These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him." These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

Thanks for taking my comment in the lighthearted spirit in which it was meant, Bober. When I looked back I realized it could have sounded offensive, which was not my intent.

Regarding your reply, I would gently suggest there's a difference between a wind vane and a compass, the latter being much more useful for finding one's way.
