Obama: Angry Townhalls Prove Need for Cheaper Meds

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 144 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2009-08-22) — An outbreak of tumultuous Democrat-run townhall meetings nationwide provides the best proof yet, President Barack Obama said today, that America needs government-run health care to provide low-cost medication to citizens who suffer from bouts of anger and depression.

“Clearly there are mental health issues which are not receiving proper attention under our current health care system,” the president said during his weekly Saturday radio address. “I’ve seen the red-faced citizens, shouting themselves hoarse, even babbling incoherently about rationing, loss of liberty, socialism and the like. These folks need help that the big insurance companies won’t give them because they’d rather line the pockets of their fat-cat stockholders.”

Mr. Obama brushed aside charges that he’s aloof from the concerns of average Americans and has not listened to the voice of the people.

“I know the people at these meetings don’t really mean what they say,” he added. “They’re hurting because their insurance companies have denied them coverage for their irrational rage disorders. They have to take it out on someone, because insurance companies are faceless bureaucracies with no accountability.”

The president assured the nation that the public-option health plan will include universal access to cheap, abundant doses of Prozac, sleep aids, tranquilizers and other medications designed to “even out the unruly passions of the human soul.”

Meanwhile, the die-hard Obamabots medicate themselves with sugar and dope. The Obamacare plan will continue to dispense the dope for the dopes.

  • 2 Darthmeister // Aug 22, 2009 at 1:00 pm

Does this mean Obamarx is getting all "wee weed up" about the protests? Shameless hypocrite. I guess only liberals can legitimately "organize the community" into ever higher heights of outrage without getting all "wee weed up", eh?

  • 3 healthcare4all // Aug 22, 2009 at 2:54 pm

When will the republicans learn that they only look stupid when they lie about what health care will do for America?

They looked dumb when they called Obama a terrorist because of his name..
they looked dumb when they claimed he was born in a foreign country..
and they wonder why they lost the election?

Americans do not want their country to be run by fear mongering republican idiots..

that is why they will lose the health care debate too..

they just show us all again… why we did not want them to run our country

    Which would you prefer?

    Step right up …

  • 5 Honest_E // Aug 22, 2009 at 3:22 pm

What a total utter insult to the American People! We should ALL be outraged by these comments! R's/D's/Lib's & Indipendents alike should interpret his statements as his true feelings of the American people, nothing but followers of his magesty!!. We all need to be medicated to maintain balance?! Our outrage is a product of insurance company prescription prices? NO SIR! We are outraged at your bold audacity to systematically dismantle the Country we love by means of harassment, ignorance and Chicago-style bully politics. You never had my vote, and I am doing my best to get the word out about who you really are Mr. President.

Those of you who are concerned about the “tone” of political discourse here in the U.S., and those who wonder why we can’t all “just get along”, might want to consider the following:

Taliban Reportedly Cut Off Fingers of 2 Voters.

Two voters in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, where there is a significant Taliban presence, had their ink-stained fingers chopped off by insurgents. … The report came as key international monitors are rendering a tentative assessment of the election process.

    Good morning, Darthmeister!

I heard you recently had an argument with your dining room table. Is that correct, or am I confusing you with Barney Frank?

  • 8 NurMahal // Aug 22, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Speaking of stupidity, has everyone here heard about the Whole Foods boycott? If you haven't, you should Google it. What a farce! If you are not in 1000% agreement with the left, you are their ENEMY!

So much for "post-partisan" America -

Sorry but the Republicans have some well thought out considerations that should be taken seriously by the Democrats. And I am a Democrat !

  • 10 Whizzer // Aug 22, 2009 at 5:23 pm

That is precisely what the extremists on both sides assert ! Extremists get nowhere with me. But those who present some worthwhile considerations, regardless of where they sit should be listened to !

For instance, I think Grassley (sp?) has some well thought out and reasoned points that should be considered by the Democrats in respect to the health plan issue !

We just sank a little deeper, guys -

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration will raise its 10-year budget deficit projection to approximately $9 trillion from $7.108 trillion in a report next week, a senior administration official told Reuters on Friday.

Let’s celebrate! Time to spend another ginormous chunk of borrowed money! Weeehah!!!

"Extremists" is a bit vague (especially in conjunction with the equally vague "worthwhile considerations").

  • 13 onlineanalyst // Aug 22, 2009 at 7:50 pm

Obama: “It has never been easy, moving this nation forward. There are always those who oppose it, and those who use fear to block change.”

Obamao has the mistaken idea that the federal government is Central Command and that all he has to do is implement his grandiose ideas through Central Command.

The federal government needs to get out of the way and let the people decide what they want with the least interference from that federal government. A free market in health insurance and health-care delivery offered by those most knowledgable about it and consumers most affected by it
would effect the necessary changes naturally.

Obamao's Utopian Statist dream offends me. It is a nonstarter. Legislation with this much impact on the economy must of necessity be approached slowly and thoughtfully. And when statesmanlike effort is made, most will find that such bills will have to be gutted or rejected or rescinded because they are unconstitutional.

It is not change that the people object to, Mr. President. It is the type of change that you insist on and your method of imposing it that we find offensive.

"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opiate of the people."

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dr. Karl Marx

Bearing in mind that Marx lived in a predominantly Christian culture, and thus that "Religion" to him essentially meant the religion of Christ, perhaps his statement should be taken as a prescription rather than the indictment he meant it to be.

Left-wing groups like MoveOn.Org, SEIU, and ACORN apparently have plans to "infiltrate" grassroot anti-ObamaCare protests and Tea Parties in hopes of "stirring up trouble" in the eyes of the American people. Precisely what kind of trouble was not specified in the intercepted communiques from these moonbat organizations.

So if you are attending any of these kinds of rallies keep your eyes open and don’t allow yourselves to be provoked by these leftist terrorists. If someone is acting provocatively in front of news crews or private video cameras, they may not be on our side so don't hesitate to step in front of the cameras and mention that those whackos acting badly are probably Obamabot plants trying to delegitimize the message of this grassroot movement. Typical liberal/leftist tactics, btw. I witnessed it in some of our local Pro-America Rallies seven years ago.

I'll be attending a Tea Party rally on August 24 and will be ever vigilant for liberal troublemakers posing as normal Americans.

Wow, this worries me, and confuses me. I guess I have to thank our kind president for showing me the light. I guess people really aren't supposed to get angry, ever, dven if the government is spending way to much money and reaching way too far out of their boundries. Apparently we all need to be medicated so that we don't argue or disagree with or get upset at anything the president or other branches of the government does. How cant he president say,"I know the people at these meetings don’t really mean what they say,”? To me this is an outrage! This shows me that our president really doesn't care about what the people have to say. He will dismiss our questions and worries about what is happening in our country claiming that we are mad because we have a mental disorder and need medication. I don't think this is right, it is very wrong and something should be done about it.

Danny, you do realize that what is written above on scrappleface about the Aug. 22 internet address by President Obama is a parody, and is not ACTUALLY what Obama said.

You can find the actual address or a transcript of the address and read for yourself. Again, there is nothing in the actual address where the president says, "I know the people at these meetings don't really mean what they say." Nor is there anything in the address that remotely implies this.

Are you people so fearful that you believe whatever you are told (or want to believe) without a fact or reality check?

Apparently the Left is more than willing to do the bidding of George Soros, who appears to be on a mission to destroy the dollar.

Axelrod's Astroturfers are at it again, infecting conservative blogs and websites with their contrived accusations of misrepresentation and lies. Yet the fact remains that, even with their marching orders and talking points, the Left has not provided any evidence to back its claims. The fear-mongering comes from the Left with its unsubstantiated claims of crisis.

The CBO has reported repeatedly that the current bills generated by the Dems will create unsustainable debt. Already the deficit threatens to crash our currency, and its source is the irresponsibility of the Obama administration's approved bills since the January inauguration. Facts and statistics are difficult factors to deny.

I've already sent this prayer request to several of you that are in my address book but I covet the prayers of Scrapplers. (Those of you (most of you) who are Christians.

I'm going to see a surgeon tomorrow, just to get an evaluation about the toes on my feet and his take on the possible option of having them amputated since for several years now the bacterial infection has resisted all manner of attempts at getting healed.

This includes twice having visiting "in home" R.N.s, daily for a month or more.; Now trips twice a week to the ATU section of Holland Hospital and twice a week trips to Lakeshore Orthopedic for additional treatment at the Lymphodema a/k/a lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes) Clinic - on top of all that, I have "helpers" (aides) in 7 days a week for 2 1/2 hours who change the dressings on my feet and calves daily and now I have a 'device' that resembles the legs cut off of a really, really thick snowsuit. Called a "Pump" they are inflated in sequence by a compressor. Each leg has 4 segments that progressively inflate and deflate from ankle to knee about 3 times a minute for one hour daily (I have to have my aides zip me into and out of the things.) My aides are a real Godsend Sandy M.T.Th,F and EricaW,Sa,Su. They never complain, and as long as it's Ethical, Moral and Legal, there's nothing they won't help me to do.

Probably more than you want to know but I thought I'd give you an update. And I do covet your prayers.

  • 54 Darthmeister // Aug 24, 2009 at 1:02 pm

History professor Paul Rahe:____Why are the Democrats in such trouble? I think that the answer is three-fold. ____First, the so-called "stimulus bill" was passed in both the House and the Senate in a manner suggestive of tyranny. It was written "in camera" with the help of a legion of lobbyists, and it was presented and shoved through before anyone in Congress even had a chance to read it, much less think about it, and the same argument could be made concerning the passage of the cap-and-trade bill in the House and the Obama administration's handling of the bailout and the bankruptcy proceedings of Chrysler and General Motors. ____Second, the first of these bills was an obvious scam - a massive pay-off to Democratic party constituencies at the expense of the American taxpayer on a scale that guarantees much higher taxes before long and that almost certainly will drive up interest rates. In the long run, it is not a stimulus bill in any shape or form. It is the sort of spending certain to retard growth. ____Third - as I argued in some detail in "Obama's Tyrannical Ambition," rationing was the point of the Obamacare proposal. __

As far as “bending the health-care cost curve” with Obamacare, all I can do is channel Ralph Kramden: “To the moon, bober! To the MOON !!!”

  • 64 boberinyetagain // Aug 24, 2009 at 11:56 am

    Gafisher,

Obama must have done some mighty fine pre-planning…from the website…

Since 1982, Families USA has worked to promote high-quality,
affordable health care for all Americans.

And, what’s this “true or not” thing? Perhaps you don’t contribute to your helth care or pay a deductible but I do both and I can assure you that the substance of the assertion is way true…as can anyone that “shares” the costs/has a co-pay.
As for the “replacement” model, I thought that’s what’s being debated…excpet by those that defend 95% increases in premiums for less service.
I’m NOT among those…it’s unsustainable as a model and it’s NOT a model to me, I’m living it

These poor, angry souls need the health care provided to everyone in Congress-since it's already taxpayer funded. Of course, that health care will be amended to remove the expense accounts, perks, and power that the current users in this health plan enjoy…….

  • 71 ep29030 // Aug 24, 2009 at 5:25 pm

There is a difference between PROVIDING health care and CONTROLLING health care. A voucher can PROVIDE it-but then Congress wouldn't be able to CONTROL how people spent 1/8th of our economy. And we can't let the ignorant huddled masses have that kind of power….

If anyone needed any more proof that the media is in Obama's pocket, Charles Gibson, when told of Cindy Sheehan's protest of Obama and the war said, "Enough already!"

This is the same Gibson who EXTENSIVELY covered Sheehan's protests of Bush in 2005.

"This is the same Gibson who EXTENSIVELY covered Sheehan's protests …"

Exactly the same thing as MoMadeMeDoIt noted regarding Afghanistan. Both were opportunities, not issues to Obama and the media. There were Americans to whom such things were real issues, people who, like Sheehan, didn't realize they were being used and would be discarded when they were no longer needed; I hope those people learned from all this and will bestow their loyalties more carefully in the future.

posted twice before, both blown away…____That organization has been around since 1982 so I guess Obama planted that seed WELL ahead of the need eh? Very forward thinking of him.____Me, I'm living proof that each year my "contribution" to my healthcare goes up. The part my employer pays goes up. My co-pay goes up. Each year, every year, much much more than increases in pay/inflation. In fact I've has 2 pay cuts so far this year, the first 5% and then 6 weeks later another 6%. Been about 6 weeks since then…waiting on #3.__Has my health care payment gone down? Take a guess and get back to me.____Folks here willing to tirelessly defend the rich (asd though they were or are on the verge of becoming one) is funny. Defending insurance companies borders on hilarious.____As for the "no plan" going forward, isn't that what the discussion is all about? Trying to come up with a new plan? Yep, been giving it a lot of thought and can't help but conclude changes are needed. I'm open to what those might be though…and can't fathom that others don't even want to discuss it. Bad at math they are…

I had wondered because ANYONE can misspell an occasional word but, "socialism4all", (a MUCH more accurate name), cannot figure out the "edit function" of this site, and also thinks like most libs/Obama-bots, the way to convince people that his ObamaCare is a "good thing" is to NOT point out it's benefits, (which are NONE), rather to attack the people asking simply to TELL US ABOUT IT!!!

That will sell people on your proposed program every time—-NOT!

  • 135 RAM1 // Aug 25, 2009 at 9:07 pm

Yeah, that is the way to convince people that ObamaCare is a good thing, by changing the subject, and FAILING to show why healthcare for EVERYONE is good for us all.

That may have worked in the past but, after the Congress recess, and the Dems go ahead and FORCE ObamaCare down our throats, 2010 will see the U.S. House return to Republican control for AT LEAST the next two cycles!

Not sure that is MUCH better, but it WILL be better than the dictatorship that is going on now!
