PETA Protests Disrupt Cash for Clunkers Deals

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 10 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

Just days after Congress replenished the federal ‘cash for clunkers’ program with another $2 billion in taxpayer funding, several car dealers around the nation reported that protesters from PETA — People for the Ethical Treatment of Automobiles — have attacked and disrupted their attempts to close sales under the program.

PETA activists reportedly expressed their alarm at “the wanton destruction of the defenseless” by showing up at dealerships clothed in little more than bumper stickers and fuzzy dice, and by calling for a presidential pardon for some 750,000 operational vehicles that already face “annihilation by compression”.

It appears that the federal government is now performing taxpayer-subsidized abortions on clunkers deemed unfit to live.

"Cash for clunkers?" Is that where we taxpayers can pay cash to get the Obamabot Donks out of Congress?

Donks' so committed to embracing the Alinsky Way they've forgotten the American Way.

I wonder if anybody is watching closely as these cars are being destroyed and MAKING SURE that the fluids, (transmission, oil, antifreeze, freon, etc.), are being disposed of properly BEFORE being crushed?

After all, the whole reason of this program is to make people use less fuel to HELP the environment isn't it?

My guess is the CURE is worse that if things were just left alone, as the CFR's, (complete with the mercury they contain), replacing ordinary light bulbs!

Remember GOD said HE would make them fools that profess themselves to be wise!

RAM1, I don't know whether we've got a new Clunker Czar dispatching his minions to observe and document proper disposal procedures, but removing batteries, fluids and mercury has been part of the wrecking yard protocol for quite a while, and given the detailed records yards are required to keep for "Clunker Program" cars I'm certain the environmental concerns are thoroughly covered. (Sorry if that sounded pedantic but I've just been discussing this with a relative and a friend respectively in the auto sales and auto wrecking biz.)

"Cash for Clunkers" wasn't a sufficient incentive for me to sideline my gas-guzzling, smoke-blowing, fluid-gushing clunker. I'm holding out for <a>Ransoms for Rattletraps.

"People for the Ethical Treatment of Automobiles"? Ouch.

News outlets that are focusing on the incendiary rhetoric of conservatives outside President Obama's town hall meeting Tuesday ignored the incendiary rhetoric — and even violence — of liberals outside an appearance by former President George W. Bush in 2002.

When Bush visited Portland, Ore., for a fundraiser, protesters stalked his motorcade, assailed his limousine and stoned a car containing his advisers. Chanting "Bush is a terrorist!", the demonstrators bullied passers-by, including gay softball players and a wheelchair-bound grandfather with multiple sclerosis.

One protester even brandished a sign that seemed to advocate Bush's assassination. The man held a large photo of Bush that had been doctored to show a gun barrel pressed against his temple.

Indeed, but such double-standards never bother "open-minded" progressives since they are always right and we're always wrong.
