Iran’s Guardian Council Declares Neda Soltan Alive

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 50 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2009-06-28) — Iran’s Guardian Council, the 12-member body of Islamic Mullahs that exercises de facto rule over the nation, today announced that Neda Soltan, a young woman who apparently bled to death on video before the eyes of the world after being gunned down by a government sniper, is actually alive and well.

“There was no shooting of Neda Soltan,” according to the official Iranian news agency, “Neither did blood pour from her mouth and nostrils as she gazed helplessly skyward. These are lies told by those who would destabilize Iran’s democratically-elected government. Neda lives quite happily, supports the legitimate government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and simply wants to be left alone.”

The Council added that video footage of other shootings and beatings of unarmed civilians by Basij militia and Republican Guards are “fabrications filmed on the same Hollywood sound stage where they shot the fictitious American moon landings. We command all peace-loving people to avert their eyes from these deceptions, and to embrace the truth we declare.”

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama would consider the latest statement by the Guardian Council, and discuss it with his advisers, but would have no comment “until he develops a position on issue that he doesn’t have to clarify later.”

Good morning, Maggie! Long time no see.

Re Scott’s last paragraph about Gibbs: The WH spokesman spends an inordinate amount of time and energy translating what Obamao and his administration mean even though the actual contradictory words have been immortalized in video and print.

When Obamao declares self-righteously, “Let me be clear” or “As I’ve always said…,” prepare yourselves for a whopper. The lad has no shame, and the media are enabling this con game.

Maggie #1 - The Chaplain for your island group is, of course, L. Ron Hubbard, who wondrously enough is the only one who really is still alive and well.

His actual residence happens to be in Geneva, Switzerland; using a different name.

  • 4 Fred Sinclair // Jun 28, 2009 at 10:47 am

Switzerland still requires all (ALL) male citizens ages 16 - 60 to keep a government supplied firearm with ammo in his personal residence. Strangely (?) enough Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

    True Statistics

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week - which I quote from:
“If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in
the Iraq theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths,
that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period.
That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital,
which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The US should pull out of Washington.”

Like the Republican propaganda that the economy is getting worse, not better. And stories that Obama is not an American citizen are hateful misrepresentations that Obama could easily correct when he finds time to produce his birth certificate. Also, it is pure hate speech to point out that there is likely to be 50 fewer Democrats in Congress in 2012.

OLA, not ignoring you, assume that’s a video with sound…no audio here.

Now we have to invade Honduras? Sheesh, we better get busy recruiting

  • 18 onlineanalyst // Jun 29, 2009 at 9:56 am

Honduras was following its own constitution, backed by its lawmakers and its Supreme Court, when it ousted its president who called for a referendum to keep himself in permanent power. , Unfortunately Obamao sides with Chavez (!) in supporting the former wannabe dictator for life. It appears that Obamao has been “meddling” in support of his Leftist cronies, who have no problems with ignoring constitutions.

Contrary to the media’s portrayal, there was no “military coup” in Honduras. The military were protecting the rule of law and the Honduran constitution in that country.

ok, read the story…wanna read some about millions of Americans that can’t afford to keep themselves from become “emergencys”…a smidge of preventative care could ward off a ton of emergency room visits…but they have no access to preventative care/meds they can afford…
Rock/hard place…flip a coin, hope for the best?
    I have no “magic bullet”…

  • 21 Beerme // Jun 29, 2009 at 11:23 am

    Bob,

If only Obama were running a ruse to get private insurers to “help out”, it wouldn’t be so reprehensible. The One is all about action, though. He’s urging action in every sphere to effect the CHANGE the American people voted for.
    Watch for it…

  • 22 JQ // Jun 29, 2009 at 12:05 pm

    Boberin says:

“…a smidge of preventative care could ward off a ton of emergency room visits…but they have no access to preventative care/meds they can afford…”

So the answer is for no one to have access to preventative healthcare, just like our neighbors to the north.

When the government decides that you’re actually sick enough to warrant a visit to the doctor’s office, only then will you have the opportunity to wait 5 hours for your “free” healthcare.

At least it’s voluntar….what? My employer went w/ the government plan because it’s cheaper?

    Crap.

  • 23 boberinyetagain // Jun 29, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I dunno where all the “wonderful” current stories come from, really I don’t

Me?… not sick much (knocking wood really hard) myself but the few times i’ve needed it and from plenty of anecdotal evidence (freinds/coworkers) when they are sick they call the doctor and are told “see you in 5-7 days”. (don’t know about you but in 75% of the cases you’re either over it or dead by then…)
For a specialist (firsthand family evidence, multiple times) you are told 3-8 weeks (is that the “wonderful” part of the surrent system?) and chances are he’ll refer you to another “specialist” so you MIGHT have a diagnosis somewhere between 6-18 weeks after seeing primary care…so the “wonderful” private insurance I have now (to the tune of $200-300 or more a week for me/my wife…which is NOT “insurance” it’s pre-paid healthcare) is NOT the model that inspires supreme confidence in me to begin with.
New system might be worse…but perhaps it will be cheaper…”worse” is hard to imagine
Wanna bet “money” will still be able to buy healthcare (if not happiness?)

  • 24 boberinyetagain // Jun 29, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    post gobbler strikes..rats! short version

If I’m laid off, COBRA about $1200/month, not insurance, pre-paid healthcare

Call Doctor/sick, told 5-7 days (dead or over it by then)…if not over it and get to Dr…
Dr says, need specialist…specialist can see you in 3-8 weeks (see dead/over it)
Likely as not he sends you to another specialist, same wait.
Lots of co-pay’s all along the string…
Good chance that treatment recommended is not covered…much more wrangling with the “system” to even have it considered…
This is the wonderful care I’m about to give up?
Just gotta see how much worse the new system gets

  • 25 boberinyetagain // Jun 29, 2009 at 12:32 pm

ah, “awaiting moderation”…back to that are we? Thought we’ve all beeen pretty well behaved lately, guess not…

  • 26 JQ // Jun 29, 2009 at 12:41 pm

    Boberin says:

“Me?… not sick much (knocking wood really hard) myself but the few times i’ve needed it and from plenty of anecdotal evidence (freinds/coworkers) when they are sick they call the doctor and are told “see you in 5-7 days”.”

Sounds like you and your friends/coworkers need a new doctor. I also rarely need a doctor, but it seems like my wife and kids are always needing to go in (my wife is down with something right now, and my 4-year-old has had both RSV and mono in the last year). In every case, we’ve been able to get an appointment same-day; in my daughter’s RSV case, we were able to do almost-daily follow-ups. All this with a Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO.

I acknowledge that the system needs work; medical costs are ridiculously high, especially considering the costs of premiums and deductibles. I just still don’t see the solution as being a government-run plan. I would welcome stricter regulation of the current healthcare system if it meant that the government wouldn’t be taking it over.

  • 27 boberinyetagain // Jun 29, 2009 at 12:51 pm

JQ, like I say…I offer no wonderful plan but I feel that something is needed. As for the doctor I “game” the sytem…if I’m sick I just show up at his office and plant myself in a seat…until my illness makes it a good idea to squeeze me in…but I wasn’t kidding about myself and others that have been oferred a nice wait.
Have you needed a specialist? Sometimes you get lucky and get something this week or next but lots of times, you are not lucky.
Older daughter has a mystery hear ailment. She needed a credit card sized monitor, had to wait until the person that has it was done (died?/cured?/some other reason not to need it…) with it…cause they had 2 or 3 of them total…so they current system “rising to the need” isn’t all that accurate either.
If you go to the doctor/hospital w/o insurance your visit/stay will cost 2-300% more than the insurance company will pay them for the same service. System sounds broken to me.
I still say, watch private insurance work something out…

  • 28 upnorthlurkin // Jun 29, 2009 at 1:40 pm

Just returned from a check up and yearly female-type tests. I am in the largest city in my state. My doctor and clinic is the largest in 350 miles. I counted more Manitoba, Canada license plates in the parking ramp than ND or MN plates combined. We are 100 miles from the Canadian border. These were not Cadillacs and Mercedes. These are not rich Canadians….they are people who want to get well….
bob, does your car insurance pay for oil changes and tire rotations?! I paid for my doctor visit and mammogram…. My husband and I have a catastrophic health insurance policy that is quite reasonably priced.

  • 29 upnorthlurkin // Jun 29, 2009 at 1:52 pm

And from AT this morning: Excessive Government involvement is what’s wrong with our current healthcare system.

One prominent example: FDA regulation and Medicare/Medicaid policies are suppressing new drug and device options and increasing healthcare costs. The FDA’s approval process for new technologies costs companies between 250 and 800 million dollars. It takes an average of 8.5 years to move through the FDA’s clinical and approval phases and there is no guarantee of approval. Out of 5000 compounds discovered in the pre-clinical stage, only about 5 will make it through. The cost of approved and non-approved drugs and devices are passed on to the physician practice, hospitals, surgery centers and patients.

Beerme #21: The pace of “CHANGE” continues to accelerate.

No longer content with passing bills that they have not read, Congress has begun to take votes on bills that have not even been completely written (i.e., “cap-n-crap”).

Doubtless, they will soon find ways to dispense with enacting tiresome, unnecessary “legislation” entirely.

  • 31 boberinyetagain // Jun 29, 2009 at 2:10 pm

upnorth, it is a long winded, expensive process but it seems to be needed. Have you ever listened to/read the “side effects” that most drugs have? Most seem at least as bad if not worse that the original condition but of course the drug companies “have a pill for that” side effect as well. Even with these “safeguards” drugs sneak through that cause much pain and suffering. Often, older drugs are at least as effective and the “new” one, almost always at a lower cost with fewer side effects. Niacin is an excellent “drug” for high cholesterol but it’s nearly never used because there is no money to be made…it’s in the vitamin isle.
Imagine what side effects drugs might have w/o that process?
Clearly a revamp of some sort is sorely needed. If you or the Pubs have one, trot it out.
i still maintain that drug and insurance companies will “see the light” and step up…rather than trying to compete with the gummint (which may well do a lousy job)

While in Baghdad I discovered this tragic, much bemoaned by “no blood for oil” Liberals, landmark.

It is the location where evil Americans open the veins and collect the blood of our servicemen and innocent Iraqis to run our blood for oil refinery. Notice the nearly finished oil product in the next reservoir over. Food for oil did not work so well since it required an additional step of rifining the oil into cash to lubricate some political parts of the process.

See what happens? England nationalized roofing and just as you’d suspect…all heck broken loose

LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Queen Elizabeth faces a long wait for repairs to the roof of Buckingham Palace unless the government stumps up extra cash, royal accounts showed on Monday.

Her treasurer, Alan Reid, said a backlog of “essential” maintenance would reach 40 million pounds over the next decade if there is no increase in annual funding.

Key projects facing at least a 10-year wait include the 13 million pounds renewal of lead and slate roofs at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, and the 4.5 million pound refurbishment of state rooms at both properties.

Great news by the way. Missile defense at 3AM (PST) this morning met a significant milestone. I had the honor to be in a drivers seat. Give us four more years (and continued funding) and Iranian nuclear aspirations will be moot if a missile is involved- probably are already but that is above my pay grade.

I am still worried about my 2007 prediction of China invading Taiwan, if they are going to, in 2010-11 just before we can fully implement a far east system. Of course if the administration never provides interceptors (kill vehicles or kv) we will never have a counter to mass launches and therefore never accelerate anybodies “need to act now” timelines….we hope!

I find it unlikely that Mr. Panarin’s views reflect reality but I am unable to refute some of his arguments due to lack of expertise in his questionable field.
