Poll: Most Know Who’s the Voice of GOP…Susan Boyle

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 62 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2009-06-10) — A new USA Today-Gallup poll finds that, despite the internal debates now dividing the Republican Party, most Americans are able to identify the preeminent voice of the GOP as Susan Boyle.

Gallup asked 763 Americans, ‘Who do you think is the leading voice in the Republican Party?’

Miss Boyle, also well know for her singing on ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘, topped the list of Republican leaders with 77 percent name recognition, edging out Angelina Jolie who came in a distant second with 17 percent, followed by Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich and “that Alaska woman”, all in the single digits.

“Internally, the GOP has its problems,” said an unnamed USA Today editor, “but there’s no question that folks know Boyle, and she is such an effective communicator that about half of respondents also know her visionary conservative message captured in the phrase: ‘I dreamed a dream’.”

“The messenger is the message,” the anonymous editor said. “Susan represents the result of years of devotion, single-minded focus, clarity and boldness in the face of harsh critics. Polls repeatedly show that folks are eager to follow someone like that.”

They could do much worse, Lord knows they’ve tried.

    Funny stuff Scott!

Substitute “Obama” for “Susan” in the last paragraph and…exactly…we are indeed

  • 3 upnorthlurkin // Jun 10, 2009 at 8:58 am

Susan’s performance still brings a tear to my eye. She is the perfect example of a selfless soul. I’m praying her success is recognized and her reward is a more comfortable life! She deserves it! As for the Republican party, who cares?! Until they clean house and quit trying to be Dem-lite, they’re lost to a majority of their base! Conservatism works every time it’s tried!

  • 4 gafisher // Jun 10, 2009 at 9:52 am

Um, yeah, sounds accurate — against expectations, the GOP hit all the right notes and made tremendous progress throughout the world, then suffered a crisis of confidence and lost to a flashy song-and-dance act.

Stay tuned to that Alaska woman.

I wonder is she is anything like the last great hope of Great Britain, Mrs. Thatcher, if so, lets change her citizenship and have her run for the repubs…

I’m reading article, trying in vain to find “the meat,” when it hits me: that’s the point. All there is to the Susan Boyle story is the Susan Boyle story. She’s got an inspirational rags-to-riches story, which should make her a shoo-in for high public office. Meanwhile, she has no real experience with anything other than making people feel good.

Substitute “Obama” for “Susan” in the last paragraph. (Oh, and you might want to change the references to “she” to “he,” unless you want a bonus chuckle.)

Mr. Obama’s pastor, the not so “Reverend” Jeremiah Wright: “Them Jews aren’t going to let him (Obama) talk to me. ”

Can you imagine the outcry and the charges of racism from those who are now Obamabots if ANY of President George Bush’s pastors had ever made such a despicable comment?

Keep in mind, Mr. Obama learned his “Christianity” at the feet of this theological moron for 20 uninterrupted years! Indeed, the chickens are coming home to roost, Mr. Wright. And it is this kind of “Christianity” that liberal religionists typically embrace themselves.

  • 9 boberinyetagain // Jun 10, 2009 at 11:52 am

Did he say which Jews exactly? Just curious.

  • 10 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 11:55 am

That was an interesting interview, Darth. Here’s another clip:

“They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. … I said from the beginning: He’s a politician; I’m a pastor. He’s got to do what politicians do.”

It’s pretty established by this point that Wright is not someone Obama’s administration wants to have anything to do with. However, Darth’s point still stands; this man who claims to be a Christian received (or at least tolerated) decades of instruction from Wright, whose brand of Christianity is nothing more than political activism that smells more of the Black Muslim movement than Biblical Christianity.

Now again, I don’t believe that Obama is a Muslim, but his upbringing in Wright’s church wasn’t one of Christian doctrine, either. At best, I’d say he’s in Boberin’s deist camp, with no clear idea of who God is. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop him from having very clear ideas regarding the best course for mankind…

  • 11 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 11:58 am

    Boberin says:

“Did he say which Jews exactly? Just curious.”

Sure, he did. It was “them” Jews. You know the ones.

Heck, they’re all the same; what difference does it make?

  • 12 JamesonLewis3rd // Jun 10, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Them Jews” with which BHO has surrounded himself, of course.

  • 13 boberinyetagain // Jun 10, 2009 at 12:13 pm

JL3, read th article but came away with no clearer vision of who “them jews” are than before.
I know that the term “they” refers to the Dick Van Patten family, as in “you know what they say” (the torch was passed to the Wayans family a couple years back I think, check that)

But that still leaves the question of who “them” is, no matter their religion.

    So confusing…

JQ, pretty sure “all the same” refers to the Chinese but again, it’s a gray area…could mean Japanese too, usually prefaced by “look” as in they all look the same

  • 15 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    Boberin says:

“JQ, pretty sure “all the same” refers to the Chinese but again, it’s a gray area…could mean Japanese too, usually prefaced by “look” as in they all look the same”

I think it applies to pretty much any group the observer doesn’t belong to, especially those he/she holds in low regard.

Mr. Wright obviously has a chip on his shoulder against the “Zionists” who somehow got the idea that they’re special. One might refer him to the first, say, 39 books of the Bible, but after all these years (he said 50, right?), he probably can’t find his.

Oh, and when the inflation tsunami hits in the next six to twelve months, we only have Mr. Obama, the Congressional Donks and the braindead Obamabots to thank for this little gift to the American people.

This is precisely what conservatives have been warning about since the profligate Donks began putting pen to paper just days after they coronated their new messiah back in January.

… this man who claims to be a Christian received (or at least tolerated) decades of instruction from Wright, whose brand of Christianity is nothing more than political activism that smells more of the Black Muslim movement than Biblical Christianity.

Very well put, JQ, and you’re exactly right. It’s a pretty well known fact that the younger “Reverend” Wright smoozed around with the Black Muslim movement and because of his own hate for conservative whites and America he couldn’t help but bring most of that baggage with him in his version of “Christianity.” It’s also rather hypocritical of liberals to make it a sport to demonize historic, conservative Christendom while castigating us for pointing out the theological and political perversion Wright preached from his pulpit - which, in turn, Mr. Obama swilled down for the last twenty years of his life.

As anyone else made the connection that what’s happening now is like America being led by the left’s black version of Jim Jones? And it’s still true that Jim Jones was the San Francisco left’s darling! And here we are today with Obamabots sucking down the Obama kool-aid while trying to take us down with them!

Interesting how the lamestream media had tried to whitewash Jim Jones as some kind of right-wing religious fanatic, isn’t it. It wont’ belong before the Obama disaster becomes some overwhelmingly deniable that, as I posited around November of 2008, former Obama supporters will blame us for “making” them vote for Obama because we didn’t nominate a Republican candidate they could vote for! It won’t be all of them but there will a number of shameless cowards who will attempt to blame this current economic mess not only on President Bush but also on us for being “such extremists” that we pushed them into Obama’s arms!

    Jesse Raphial says:

“Ok, where in this article does it even mention religion, what page are you guys reading off of?”

We’re talking about the article Darthmeister mentioned (#8) and JL3 linked to (#12). That article is the latest episode in the Jeremiah Wright drama, which pertains directly to sitting President Obama’s religious upbringing.

  • 21 JamesonLewis3rd // Jun 10, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Wright seems to be speaking specifically about “Them Jews” in Israel.
Another interesting thing Wright said in this article, and on previous occasions, is that BHO actually is still a follower of his [Wright's] and an adherent of his [Wright's] psychopathic, racist agenda but is keeping it on the down-low because he’s a politician.

He also suggests that once BHO is free of “Them Jews” (in less than 4 years) he will go back to his true, hate-filled, racist self that Wright knows and loves.

This is an affirmation (by someone who would know) that the The Manchurian Candidate analogy is still quite valid.

I have never been able to relate to the USA’s blind backing of Isreal…no matter what. Never really “got it” and now Obama is coming out stating the exact same thing. At least he’s tempering it with “but you really ought to” allow Palestinians to have a country/land to call home free of opressive blockades to basic necessities of life.
Granted, Isreal usually takes the high road, it’s causes normally fair/just enough but…and the “2 state” proposal screams as one of those “buts”…sometimes they are off the mark and when that’s so we should be even more direct about it that Obama’s being now…but at least he’s the most direct we’ve had in some time, from either party.
Doubtful that Isreal has mentioned Rev Wright let alone forbid Obama to hang with him. No really sane folks pay him much attention and the Isreali’s are usually sane…

  • 25 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 2:33 pm

    Boberin says:

“I have never been able to relate to the USA’s blind backing of Isreal…no matter what.”

Not “no matter what,” but we do support the independent state of Israel as opposed to those who would have it abolished.

On the secular side, we support Israel as a Middle East democracy and a refuge for Holocaust victims. On the religious side, we have the fact that the Jews (or Israelites) were literally plucked by God from the other ancient peoples to be the instrument through which God communicated His story.

The very first Jew, Abram, was told by God, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3, NIV)

So, yeah, there’s a bit of pressure on us to help Israel out wherever we can.

“No really sane folks pay [Jeremiah Wright] much attention and the Isreali’s are usually sane…”

Our point exactly, Boberin! What sane person would listen to Jeremiah Wright for twenty years and remain a member of his congregation? You’d have to either agree with him, or not take your religion seriously at all. I think Obama’s a mixture of both.

    JL3 says:

“Wright seems to be speaking specifically about “Them Jews” in Israel.”

Specifically, I’d say he’s speaking of Obama’s Jewish advisors. Generally, I’d say he’s speaking of Jews everywhere, especially those who are a part of the vast underground movement of Abraham’s children who are sworn to destroy the rest of the world’s non-Semitic population with poisoned, non-kosher pork.

My guess is that the Jews in Israel are deeply involved in this plot, so you’re probably right.

  • 28 boberinyetagain // Jun 10, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Reduce the “Wright” equation to it’s lowest denominator…were blacks ever oppressed? Yes
Do they continue to be oppressed? Yes
Would a black leader (of any sort) feel compelled to point this out? Yes.
Would other black people listen to/identify with such talk? Probably…

Did Wright take it “over the top”? Surely
Can he be forgiven for being carried away? Perhaps…

    Shades of gray abound

  • 29 gafisher // Jun 10, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Bober Re#22, I doubt Wright’s comment was referring to anyone in Israel; he’s heavily invested in conspiracy theories involving Jewish people in domestic banking, business and government.

The historic support of Israel by the U.S. and other western nations has not been blind; rather it has been the logical result of Israel’s status as the first Democracy in the Middle East. The history of modern Israel has included the “2-State Solution” from the start, which those who speak for the Palestinians have always rejected.

  • 30 JamesonLewis3rd // Jun 10, 2009 at 3:09 pm

Yes, I agree that Wright hates Jews in general (all non-Negroes, actually).

“Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing (by) the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don’t want Barack talking like that because that’s anti-Israel,” Wright said.

  • 31 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 3:26 pm

    Boberin says:

“Did Wright take it ‘over the top’? Surely
Can he be forgiven for being carried away? Perhaps…

ABSOLUTELY, he can be forgiven. He might not teach such, but forgiveness exists for any who ask it, be he black or white.

However, Wright’s not the issue; Obama is. There are lunatics like Wright all over the country, and I can easily dismiss them by assuming that most logical (I believe “sane” was the word you used) people won’t listen to them. However, we now have a President of the United States who sat at the feet of this hateful racist for spiritual instruction over the course of 20 years! If nothing else, what does this say about Obama’s judgement?

My own town of under 50,000 people has at least four other congregations in which I would feel doctrinally comfortable being a member; you can’t tell me that Wright’s church was the only one in Chicago that Obama could attend.

I’m just asking you to be rational here, Boberin. How does the sane person-nay, even the liberal person-excuse Obama’s 20-year devotion to Wright’s teaching?

  • 32 R.A.M. // Jun 10, 2009 at 3:31 pm

“Reduce the “Wright” equation to it’s lowest denominator…were blacks ever oppressed? Yes”
Were White People ever oppressed? Yes
Were White people the only ones who oppressed Black People? No
Do Black People continue to be oppressed? Yes ,In Africa.
Is America the only Country that ever oppressed Black People ? No ,consider Sudan, nearly all other African Nations, Most Middle Eastern Countries (Still a little slave traffic ,there),Russia,Great Britain,Australia…..
Would a black leader (of any sort) feel compelled to point this out? Yes
Have Black people ever oppressed White people . Not so much ,they generally just kill them.
Do Black people want to live in the past?Yes
What position would Wright hold if his family had never been brought to the USA? He’d probably be dead.
What would life be like for Michelle 0bama if her Family had been left in Africa? Either dead or a toothless old hag

Is it morally right for anyone who calls themselves “Reverend” to curse the country that has given him so much? NO! Well, Bober ,do you have a house like “Rev” Wright has?

Did Wright take it “over the top”? Absolutely
Can he be forgiven for being carried away? Never
Read a book or two Bober, try looking up how your family came to America.

  • 38 boberinyetagain // Jun 10, 2009 at 4:01 pm

Um…we’re in large part American Indians (and a heaping dose of mutt as well) so it’s hard to say how we “came” here but many black folks were apparently brought against their will at some point and I believe you’ll find they were mistreated for a while after that. Believe it or not some folks even now don’t see them/treat them as equals but I’m guessing that isn’t the case where you live. Nice there?

I can name ALL of the Congressmen from my state:

    Sen. Max Baucus (Dem.)
    Rep. Dennis Rehberg (Rep.)

    It’s easier when you’re from Montana… :)

  • 41 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 4:27 pm

    Boberin says:

“JQ, quick guess…he, like many, slept through the “sermon” or, even more likely, went at best occasionally.”

“The old “Easter/Christmas/baptism/wedding/funeral kind of “Christian” of which there are many”

I started to reply back to you about how that makes Obama a hypocrite who used his “Christianity” as a campaign gimmick. I did some really quick, shallow research to find a place where Obama claimed to have a devout faith in God. I was surprised to see that it’s not there; to the best of my knowledge, Barack Obama has never claimed to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Now, don’t get me wrong; he has “accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior,” but by his own explanation, it was only as an initiation into the Christian community. Here’s an excerpt out of Obama’s My Spiritual Journey:

“The Christians with whom I worked recognized themselves in me; they saw that I knew their Book and shared their values and sang their songs. But they sensed that a part of me remained removed, detached, an observer among them. I came to realize that without an unequivocal commitment to a particular community of faith, I would be consigned at some level to always remain apart, free in the way that my mother was free, but also alone in the same ways she was ultimately alone.

In such a life I, too, might have contented myself had it not been for the particular attributes of the historically black church, attributes that helped me shed some of my skepticism and embrace the Christian faith.

For one thing, I was drawn to the power of the African American religious tradition to spur social change…”

(Please read the entire excerpt here; it’s a chilling read.)

And so, Boberin, you won’t get any argument from me on that point. No, Obama didn’t take spiritual instruction from Jeremiah Wright; he didn’t take it from anyone. His status as a “Christian” is nothing more than that, a status. It’s a badge that says, “Accept me! I’m a part of your community!” It’s a stepping stone in a shrewd political career.

What’s worse is that the guy has flaunted the fact so blatantly, and none of his religious supporters care to call him out on it.

It’s honestly frightening to me. Maybe this is what Antichrist looks like.

  • 42 boberinyetagain // Jun 10, 2009 at 4:47 pm

I’m willing to bet that the “Christian” label he gave himself (no argument there from me either) did very little to garner him any additional votes.

Seems (any religion) is, at best, a very thin reason to vote/not vote for someone…issues and such should at least be given much greater weight if they aren’t the entire criteria. Given that 2 individuals had nealry identical stances on the issues then it could be used as a “tie breaker” I suppose. That’d make sense but the scenario is unlikely.

  • 43 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 5:02 pm

    Boberin says:

“I’m willing to bet that the ‘Christian’ label he gave himself (no argument there from me either) did very little to garner him any additional votes.”

I’d be more careful with my money if I were you, Boberin.

Has America ever elected an openly atheist president? No. Americans, by and large, want to know that the man in charge has a faith in God to guide him. You don’t think that his public “Christianity” was a factor in the votes of millions of black Christians? Ask any given Obama supporter if the president is religious, and the vast majority will tell you that he’s a good Christian boy.

Obama came right out and stated that his participation in the Christian church was merely a political ploy; he needed voters to identify with him, so he became a humanist in a Christian’s clothing. As he stated, it wasn’t enough that he was familiar with “their Book;” he needed to identify himself as one of them before they’d truly accept him.

That’s political manipulation, pure and simple. And he wouldn’t have done it if it didn’t have it’s returns. Seems kind of conniving and deceptive for such a beacon of hope…

Angola and Mozambique against the Portuguese.
Algeria against French settlers, over 3050 White People killed.
The Nat Turner uprising in 1831, 50 white people killed in 2 days.
Even you must remember the Watt’s Riots, and the riots after Martin luther King was assassinated.
Then there were the Rodney King riots
I won’t put in the Black on Black killings ,as the Black People never count those and neither do the Police.Otherwise I’d have to list nearly every African Nation and most large American Cities.
You can look up the statistics yourself ,as I’m having trouble with my eyes.

No more than aborting you would have been, I guess since lower middle class white children are notoriously unwanted and unlikely to contribute significantly to society. It is all in the math, statitistics, and pragmatism. No need to bring morality into it.

That spans generation/party affiliation…everything. You realize that the entire nation believes we are going to hell…right? They do, ask em. Yep, they are a democracy in a sea of other folks that also believe that Christians are going to hell…they chose to govern themselves in other ways.
I believed before/believe now that we should stay out of their business.
As for abortion…for the 45th time it’s not an “option” for me and mine but I’m in no more mood to dictate to others on this than I am to tell the middle east how to govern themselves, go about their affairs.
We don’t have plenty of more pressing issues right here at home? When our house in totally in order (never) then we might consider…consider mind you…trying to meddle in peoples lives, here or otherwise.

Oh, and the oft overlooked fact…abortions happened throughout history, they happened here, they happened elsewhere. Go ahead, make it “illegal”…see if it stops. You know it won’t, like booze it will go back underground from whence it came…and be as dangerous as it was with both mothers and babies dying.
Everyone here speaks like if it were illegal it would stop…but you know for certain, certain mind you, that it wouldn’t.

Bober Re#51: “Yep, they are a democracy in a sea of other folks that also believe that Christians are going to hell…they chose to govern themselves in other ways.

Whether Israel considers us hellbound or not, unlike their neighbors they aren’t committed to sending us there.

Re#51: Have laws against, say, theft or murder reduced their incidence?

More importantly, Bober, even if those things were declared legal, would they still be wrong?

Excuse me, Bober; I meant #52 in my previous comment.

    gafisher,
True enough..but then again your average Joe most anywhere has no interest in such things…and many that currently do, do so because of relatively recent actions on our part.
Very few Mercedes/Lexus’s are use in car bombings…don’t fight, raise the standard of living…push for womens rights…the average Iraqi would still like to get electricity, clean water, steady food, a good job. What is with the electricity anyway, wouldn’t you think that several billion dollars would be enough to get them back to PRE-WAR levels? Apparently it isn’t…shut off your fridge 4-5 hours a day to get a feel for what drives them, their anger…it’s not politics other than in that how that affects life…and in poverty rabble rousers have willing audiences, in prosperity they are laughed at…

    Boberin, Re#56:
Those may be perfectly valid points, but you just changed the subject. You were trying to “rake the muck” by declaring that Israelis believe that we’re all hellbound; I believe your point was to indicate that they’re no better than the Islamic terrorists trying to kill us, yet we remain loyal to them. Gafisher responded with the fact that regardless of what the Israelis may or may not believe about our eternal destination, they aren’t attempting to expedite the trip. You then turned the discussion on US/Israeli relations into a pity party for the Iraqis. You changed the topic that you yourself brought up.

My understanding (which could be flawed, as I’m not real familiar with modern Judaism) is that the modern version of Judaism is extremely watered-down where “Hell” is concerned; I seem to recall a few Jews that I’ve spoken to who don’t even believe that Hell exists. I believe they take a much more “live and let live” approach to their religion than Christians and (especially) Muslims do. That being the case, I think your blanket statement that “the entire nation believes we are going to hell” is a bit of a stretch; especially since a huge portion of the Israeli population doesn’t even practice Judaism.

Besides, ask any of us Fundie Christians that question, and you’ll hear us say pretty much the same thing about America, albeit with great sadness in our voices. The difference between our approach to confronting unbelief and Islam’s is that we do our darnedest to evangelize, to teach people the Truth, whereas Muslims are instructed by their “holy book” to simply eradicate the unbelievers.

I assert that most car bombings involve a Mercedes car or truck.

As of last February, Iraq’s electricity production has surpassed what it was before Saddam bit the dust.

    Gafisher says:

“Have laws against, say, theft or murder reduced their incidence?

More importantly, Bober, even if those things were declared legal, would they still be wrong?”

    Very well put, Gafisher.

If abortions were declared illegal, everything would change. As Boberin himself stated, those seeking abortions would no longer be guaranteed a safe, clean, guilt-free, paid experience at a government-sponsored clinic; that alone would discourage the vast majority of the abortions that occur today, I can pretty much guarantee you; don’t try to tell me that the convenience factor doesn’t push a lot of expectant mothers off the fence.

Would back-room abortions still occur? I’m sure they would. Regardless of laws, some people will still do what they want to do. Those people would suffer the consequences: legal, financial, and physical. I say that’s the price they pay for pre-meditated murder. I don’t say that with glee; I say that with an appreciation for justice.

Von Brunn is not the “conservative” the Leftist propagandists would like you to think.

  • 61 JQ // Jun 11, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Every time a liberal (including Obama, in the speech I referenced yesterday) tries to “rationalize” with one of us crazy pro-lifers in an effort to make us understand why abortion is okay, they use the same explanations that have no bearing on the actual matter at hand. We always hear the phrases, “Not one of these women enters into the decision lightly,” or “Do we want our daughters getting these operations in basements with coat-hangers?”

Both of these phrases have major problems when used in this debate. With regard to the “difficult decision,” what difference does this make? If I wrestle with my conscience prior to shooting an innocent in the head, am I not still guilty of the murder?

And as I mentioned in my last post, the decision to have a coat-hanger abortion still rests on the mother; if she chooses to kill her child, she chooses to live with the consequences of that decision, emotional, mental, AND physical. We’re not forcing her to have a back-room abortion; we’re forcing her to protect her child, just as any Child Services employee would have her do once the baby exited her uterus.

And we are setting our standards as to what is, or is not acceptable in our society. We are in fact saying there is definite right and wrong, too many work to blur the lines because they do not have the courage to stand on principle. Dead “objects” do not grow, therefore a child in the womb is alive, if a doctor could figure out a way to perform an abortion and not terminate the life of the child, I’d support it!
