Riding the wave of Muslim approval after his historic speech from Cairo last week, President Barack Obama will reportedly travel to a major secular capital next week in an effort to “hit the reset button on relations with the Atheist World.”

This was truly one of your best, Scott, especially that last paragraph. It made me think of atheism a bit differently, especially this line:

“They want freedom to speak whatever ideas the electro-chemical reactions in their brains happen to produce.”

Where does their moral outrage come from, since any inkling of “morality” they may possess is only a random chemical reaction?

    HELLO! (helllloooo…..helllllllloooooo….)

    IS ANYONE THERE?!? (there….there….there…)

  • 3 R.A.M. // Jun 9, 2009 at 11:48 am

I have a “kind of” related thought. Why, (in the marriage[ordained by GOD] debate to allow gay marriage), hasn’t ANYONE told the government to stay out of religion?

I thought there was supposed to be a “separation of Church and State?

PS: “Barry” might as well be an atheist. He sure doesn’t follow GOD’s Word anymore than his former pastor Wright.

Maybe he WAS listening to him all those years in his pews?

JQ: The trolls will be here eventually.

As per their posts on the previous threads, they have trouble figuring changes out to Scott’s site.

Yes even the super intelligent, (even if self proclaimed), blabber, “yapping”/whosane scrappler. and all their personalities, have found that you have to be smarter than the keyboard to post a message.

MAN, am I glad my “smilies” are back! I know how happy it makes the trolls too! ;-)

I don’t know; I was actually starting to like the new format; especially the ability to sort by most recent entries…

I think the whole debate is just an attempt to convince themselves that what they’re doing is okay, even if it’s only subconscious; if not, civil unions would be enough for them. When homosexuals are able to get the Church to acknowledge their unions as legitimate, they’ll finally be able to feel that there’s nothing wrong with what they’re doing.

“The government” (as you call it) is composed of a bunch of individuals scrounging around for public approval. Their intereference in religious matters (such as the institution of marriage) is simply an extension of their atheistic constiuency’s chemical reactions.

JQ Re#6: “… they’ll finally be able to feel that there’s nothing wrong with what they’re doing.

Exactly. As Paul said, the law of God is a schoolmaster; those who don’t like the lessons want the Church to give up its “principals.”

The most ironic thing about “atheists” is that they define themselves almost exclusively in relation to the Christian God.

“… President Barack Obama will reportedly travel to a major secular capital next week …”

I thought Obama was already back in D.C.

The Church should have taken up that fight at least a century ago. When Christians accepted government “licensing” of marriage and of those who could perform them, the battle was decided.

It had (or has) its good points, but there were issues with posting links, individual messages couldn’t be linked, and the peek-a-boo Reply function was quickly turning the discussions into hash.

RAM, you are correct. I shut my computer off by unplugging it and then spent 3 hours on hold this moring waiting for tech support. Luckily the first question they asked turned me on to the solution. Those guys are amazing. Probably not so much to one of your demostrably superior intellect but to my tiny little mind they are really something.

  • 14 boberinyetagain // Jun 9, 2009 at 3:37 pm

I’d suggest you look up “demonstrably” but then I see that I can’t even spell it so…that won’t work.
    Too bad!

“OK, first, is the computer plugged in?”

Bober Re#12: “sanity comes to mind

That looks suspiciously like a tautology. Where else would it come?

  • 17 JQ // Jun 9, 2009 at 4:13 pm

    Boberin says (re: atheism’s contributions):

    “sanity comes to mind”

I guess my memory might be failing me a bit, but I always thought you identified yourself as a Christian, Boberin. Am I off in that respect?

  • 18 JamesonLewis3rd // Jun 9, 2009 at 4:34 pm

    boberinyetagain a Christian? Not hardly.

  • 19 boberinyetagain // Jun 9, 2009 at 4:46 pm

JQ, we have discussed this in the past but technically no, not Christian. I was raised by 2 devout Christians, they walked the walk too (dad still very much alive, still walking the walk)
But they ended up with a son that believes in God but not the one in the Bible. An all seeing, all knowing, all powerful entity (mine is much like that too come to think of it) that DEMANDS worship? That last part gets me every time. If He wanted worship all that much He’d have just “made it so”.
My God is the collective consiousness of all living things. He’s everywhere, see/knows all, knows what’s in men’s hearts…pretty much all powerful. Doesn’t demand worship…but will exact retribution when/where it’s due.

Yep, frothing at the mouth lunatic…that’s me!
    Or not

  • 20 boberinyetagain // Jun 9, 2009 at 4:49 pm

JL3, don’t prove (for the 45th time) how little you know of what it means to be “Christian”
You’ve blown every chance you’ve ever had of that pal.

  • 21 JQ // Jun 9, 2009 at 4:55 pm

    Boberin says:

“They ended up with a son that believes in God but not the one in the Bible.”

OK, well, acknowledging that we disagree on that and other points in your comment, doesn’t that sort of define you as a deist rather than an atheist?

Given that you believe in a God (if not the God of the Bible), does it really make sense to credit those who discount any possibility of a superior spiritual power with the notion of “sanity”? Atheists deny what we both perceive to be the reality of God’s existence; how is that more “sane” than our perceptions?

  • 22 boberinyetagain // Jun 9, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Lets say that I created an ant (closest analogy I can come up with regarding the relationship between God’s standing and mans, omeba might be better)
When I was finished I’d love them most likely, I’d get a big kick out of watching what they did. Big kick…but it’;s doubtful that if they didn’t bow down to me that I’d threaten them with eternal damnation…why would I, the creator, expect or even hope for worship of any sort?
    Seriously

Then again we need to stop now, I hear the lynch mob forming outside the door…

  • 23 boberinyetagain // Jun 9, 2009 at 5:02 pm

JQ, more sane than most “religious” folks.

Watch JL3’s response for an example (or look up some of his past comments, very “Christian”)
    Not

  • 24 JamesonLewis3rd // Jun 9, 2009 at 5:23 pm

You cannot find any comment of mine here in the past 4-5 years that even suggests that I am “religious.” Nor can you find any comment that is “non-Christian.”

BTW, Almighty God does not “demand” that anyone worship Him.

Godless, anti-American perverts just can’t handle the Truth and make up their own.

  • 25 JQ // Jun 9, 2009 at 5:25 pm

    Boberin says:

“Lets say that I created an ant…”

Ants and amoebas are bad examples; we’re created “in God’s image,” so we’re far closer to something God can relate to than an ant is to you.
God doesn’t have an ego problem. Those with ego problems typically have said problems because they’re actually insecure about themselves. God is God; nothing for Him to be insecure about. When He demands worship, it’s not a selfish, dictatorial act; it’s what is right. It’s not just (as in “justice”) for anything else in all creation to receive glory for what God has done, and He is just above all things.
As His creation, God loves us and wants us to be with Him without the guilt and stain of sin. However, not all of us want to be with Him. Those who would rather reject Him than accept Him get their wish: an eternal life devoid of God’s presence (That’s the “eternal damnation” you were referring to). God is the source of all that is good in the world; if you choose life without Him, you choose life without any goodness. That’s what we call “Hell.”
Sorry for the preachy moment, but I thought I should offer a counterpoint to your “amoeba” theory.

  • 26 mindknumbed kid // Jun 9, 2009 at 8:19 pm

Bob, your hatred of God stems from the fact that you have no desire to worship him, yet you feel as though you are required to do so. He indeed has given man a free will in that area, whether a man chooses to praise God, or curse him, is entirely up to him. Your position seems to rob you of having any peace, or abiding joy in your life. Do you find the idea of bowing to him reprehensible? Why? He has staked his everything upon us by the suffering of his Son. In our fallibility we argue and strive about all things “religious”, when God’s entire desire is not just for us to worship him, but to have an intimate spiritual fellowship and communion between ourselves and him. We have broken fellowship with him because of our sin, but we have not broken his love and desire to be as one with us. Unless and until you take him at his word you will not know peace. Life is too short and eternity is too long to harbor anger and strife with your Maker. He is willing to talk it over anytime you that are, however, one should keep in mind that we all have an expiration date.

Whilst I found that article most enjoyable…I cannot help but conclude that you are a bit of a cynic, Scott.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that… ;-)

Bober Re#19: “… but technically no, not Christian.

Thank you for clarifying that. There’s no “technically” about it, of course — like pregnancy, one is or one isn’t, though many who never intended nor expected to be discover at some point that they are. I’m sure I’m not alone here in praying you’ll make that discovery as well.

Until then, friend, I’d gently suggest that a non-Christian’s comments on Christianity hold about as much weight as a man’s account of childbirth.

  • 30 boberinyetagain // Jun 10, 2009 at 8:16 am

gafisher, well i was baptised and later in life (about 13-14 y/o) I accepted Christ as my personal saviour so…”technically” I am still Christian since, as I was given to believe, that deal is for life. I have since come to realize that God is more than Christianity teaches…not less. So, take that as you will.

JL3, as for #24 I present this…”Godless, anti-American perverts ” and, if that were not enough to stand on its own (and it surely is) then I could “scare up” about 20 similar quotes from you (you do know there is a “search” feature…right?) that are shining examples that you have no clue how to act or be “Christian”
    None whatever my man

  • 31 JQ // Jun 10, 2009 at 10:00 am

    Boberin says:

“I accepted Christ as my personal saviour so… ‘technically’ I am still Christian since, as I was given to believe, that deal is for life. I have since come to realize that God is more than Christianity teaches…not less.”

There’s actually a lack of clarity on that point. I myself am of the belief that, while we can’t lose our status as forgiven children of God (that is, it can’t be taken from us), we CAN choose to reject that status, as you appear to have done. If you reject Christ as revealed in God’s Word, then you reject Christ.
I say this only to echo Gafisher’s sentiment that he’s not the only one praying for you in your search for God. He has promised that those who earnestly seek Him will find Him, so my prayer is that you remain earnest in your search.
Please note that I’m not trying to patronize you; one can tell from debating you that you’re not a moron, even if you do vote with them. :)
(Just kidding; my best friend is a Democrat, may God have mercy on his soul)

No worries…I respect a opposing points of view when presented with at least a modicum of respect, much rather that then speaking with like minds becuase there is precious little to learn that way. Some can debate, some cannot, you can and it’s a pleasure.
