(2003-01-09) — The United Nations issued a sharp reprimand to its chief weapons inspector, Hans Blix, today after Mr. Blix said his team has found no ’smoking gun’ after weeks of searching Iraq.
An unnamed Security Council aide said, “Blix was supposed to be looking for poison gas, and ballistic missiles and fissionable materials, not smoking guns. We know Saddam has a smoking gun, we’ve seen the photo of him firing it. We don’t care about that.”
Mr. Blix will be sent back to Iraq with more specific instructions.
