Pelosi, Torture, Tribunals: Scott Ott on CNN.com LIVE

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 78 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

ScrappleFace.com editor Scott Ott appeared today (5/15) on CNN.com LIVE as part of a panel of bloggers discussing military tribunals for terror suspects and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s various claims of ignorance about enhanced interrogation techniques. The other three panelists were from The Daily Kos, Center for American Progressive, and The Washington Examiner. Things get lively, especially toward the end.

Bush-haters Still Haven’t Read the “Torture” Memos

It’s kind of like all those Rush Limbaugh haters who haven’t actually listened to his program … okay, maybe they’ve listen to thirty minutes out of twenty years of progamming.

Keep in mind, Bush-haters, Obamabots and your typical LibDonk are the ones who are always preaching to the rest of us about “being informed”, “respecting those one disagrees with”, “being honest with the real facts” and being “open-minded about ideas which challenge ones own accepted dogmas” (as if liberals don’t have social and “moral” dogmas themselves, right?). Liberals are such self-righteous liars and hypocrites! Clearly they don’t and haven’t even practiced what they preach to the rest of us!

By contrast, as a conservative, I’ve only said that I’d be fair-minded after examining ideas and claims made by those on both sides of the aisle/argument. Like the Apostle Paul admonished, “Examine everything carefully, but hold fast to that which is good.” And it’s pretty clear Paul’s definition of “good” is vastly different than what modern liberal/socialists/commies/Islamofascists/Obamabots think is good.

The President struck a balanced tone in addressing the abortion issue today, advising pro-abortion forces to continue seeking alternatives to useless eaters while encouraging the opposing side, aborted babies, to pursue legal and political means to achieve their goals.

Funny that “Barry” made no mention of, “Not wanting his daughters to be punished with a baby, if they make a “mistake” at that now, “not so great” Catholic Institution Notre Dame. After a lot of thought about Barry’s statement, it DOES make some sense. I am sure, more than once his mother, (and grandmother), wished she/they had not been punished with him!

After “Barry the baby killer” left Notre Dame, he came to Indianapolis to visit with his Muslim brother Representative Andre (Muslim) Carson. Yes, Andre at least freely admits he is a Muslim unlike Barry the liar.

Its time for the media to ask some hard questions of this administration with in-depth follow up. The PR fluff has exceeded the limits of acceptability.

“It’s kind of like all those Rush Limbaugh haters who haven’t actually listened to his program … okay, maybe they’ve listen to thirty minutes out of twenty years of progamming.”

I may be one of those you call a “modern liberal/socialists/commies/Islamofascists/Obamabots”, but I’m not sure.

Is there such a thing as an old-fashioned “liberal/socialists/commies/Islamofascists/Obamabot?

Moreover, can one be both socialist and communist at the same time?

Or, can one be an Islamofascist without being Muslim?

If one now holds the same views, as when he was a “Gorebot”, can he be an “Obamabot”?

You cite the Apostle Paul, how do you think you have anything in common with him. Your views seem to be entirely in contradiction to his ministry.

I have listened to Rush Limbaugh fairly often over the years. It is true, I don’t listen very long. I listen till my head hurts too much to continue.

I think it must be like cigarette smoking; after a while, the pain subsides, but by then you are addicted.

The same thing must happen with his “Kool-Aid”.

Nancy Pelosi’s “various claims of ignorance” seem to be well founded.
Actually this is all nothing more than an attempt on the dem’s part to score more public opinion points. The media is complicit in their plan to erode any support the republicans might be holding on to.
Publis opinion polling is a crck anyhow, the media has chosen to take sides with the liberals long ago, they pant and drool over their heroes while they snarl and besmirch everyone who doesn’t represent their views and ideas. Since Reagan took office in 1980 they have been doubling down their efforts to defeat us.

    Lurch,

    Re: 29

Your link refers to an American Thinker article which says in part, “I’d like to be a liberal because it’s ever so much easier to allow others to form my opinions for me instead of researching an issue myself. That always gets me in trouble, especially when the facts I discover diverge from the latest politically correct consensus.”
    http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/05/i_wish_i_were_a_liberal.html

As you can see by my posts, we liberals always bend with the wind, and go out of our way to avoid the risk of offending any minority group, including the latest of these the Republican Party.

“… to allow others to form my opinions for me …”.

This must be true, but it is simply amazing that all you here, and Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity, and the Republicans left in Congress all seem to arrive at the same conclusions at the same time!

“… to allow others to form my opinions for me instead of researching an issue myself.”

This also, must be true, but it is simply amazing that your research ALWAYS excludes any source whose ideology may be different from your own!

Your distain for main stream media (MSM), and your hatred for everything non-Conservative limits your “research” greatly.

In fact, you seek out only those sources which support your views, and validate your predetermined conclusions.

This, while I, and others, notably boberinyetagain, on the other hand walk among our opponents, challenging their conclusions and offering the opportunity for you to look at things from a different perspective.

We suffer your insults happily in the hope of rescuing even one of you from Limbaugh Kool-Aid addiction.

Well, my view of the greatness of our country is very different than yours. I feel no need to apologize for that greatness. We are still the greatest country in the world and will recover from any damage your side does. The American Thinker article just spells it out well. Today’s progressive liberalism is a gutless, immature choice.

  • 40 Laughing@You // May 19, 2009 at 6:56 pm

As far as my being unwelcome here is concerned; if you want to spend all your time insulting Democrats, it seems only fair to allow Democrats to respond!

    MNK,

“Since when is the Catholic church a political party?”

They have acted politically, and they are a party to a legal dispute about abortion.

Since at least the Vietnam War, for the most part, the Roman Catholic Church has been against the taking of human life, for any reason.

To the extent they fail to treat all members of the last administration in the same way, they have also become partisan.

Clearly, this “Pro-life” stand of yours isn’t pro life. Most who claim this position demand capitol punishment, and are strong proponents of war. You don’t bat an eye at the children killed as “collateral damage” in Iraq or Afghanistan. Still you rise in support of those who led us into a preemptive war based on false information.

Information widely disseminated at this site, and by most here!

It is most unlikely Roe v. Wade will ever be reversed, regardless who is elected!

The Republican Party will come no closer to reversing it than they did in delivering an “Anti-Flag Burning Amendment” and several other big “wedge issues”. “Wedge Issues” were not the creation of Karl Rove, but he has used them more than anybody else. He has used them to the extent that Republicans don’t vote FOR anyone, THEY VOTE AGAINST HIS OPPONENT!!

Smear, lie, suggest and hint. Make the Republicans feel afraid. Then turn truth on it’s head to create some bogus religious issue and wait for the televangelists to exploit it. Religion seems to be, in the hands of extremists, be they Islamic or Christian, they’re greatest tool.

Now, you oppose an honest leader, who seeks to greatly reduce the number of abortions in our country!

You ask, “Where’s his change on the issue?”

I don’t believe I said, or implied, there was a change in President Obama’s position.

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
That just about sums it up.

For me too! That description fits today’s conservative movement perfectly.

“So which is it? Israel has to make their own decision, and we’ll tell them what it’s to be?”

Israel is free to make it’s own decisions, but if those decisions are not consistent with the interest of the United States, Israel has no right to expect our support. Besides, we have too many Chickenhawks, and not enough warriors.

We should defend Israel only if they accept our counsel!

    >> “We should defend Israel only if they accept our counsel!

Israel isn’t asking for us to “defend” them so much as they’re asking us to stop undermining them. Our “counsel” under the current administration has been tantamount to demanding their surrender. What will be our equivalent for “defending” them — daisycutters on Tel Aviv?

“Israel isn’t asking for us to “defend” them so much as they’re asking us to stop undermining them.”

Not at the moment, but they have every expectation that we will, without their having to ask!

“Our “counsel” under the current administration has been tantamount to demanding their surrender.”

There is no basis for this statement whatever! Even hyperbole must have some remote basis in reality.

“What will be our equivalent for “defending” them — daisycutters on Tel Aviv?”

How foolish this statement is! As you sought to emphasize, Israel is a sovereign state; not one of the United States.

Are you Israeli or American? You cannot be both. Do not act against U. S. interest for the benefit of Israel.

If Israel has any sense they’ll accept a 2 state solution. There is no inconsistency between “sovereign state” and “2 states”. They agreed to 2 states, the reniged on their word, kept building “settlements”.
If they can’t make good choices they should not expect nor get support from us. If they can work towards peace they will get support from us and most of the rest of the ME in theor fight against Iran…otherwise they can be/should be on their own.
And you’d be surprised how well they can/will defend themselves whatever the decision…again…don’t let small size fool you…again…Japan is mighty small and they decided to attempt to dominate the entire planet not that long ago (you can look it up, they did pretty well for a while…against EVERYONE else, not one measly country)

Agreed re Israel’s defensive abilities, Bober — in fact, the U.S. buys some of its best defensive hardware from the Israelis. But it’s simply not true that Israel reneged on its concession to the Palestinians; in fact, the PA gained complete authority over its territory — which it quickly turned into a massive military base from which to launch (both figuratively and literally) attacks against Israel while doing nothing to maintain the higher standard of living the Palestinian people had enjoyed under Israeli control.

Before chiding Israel for defending itself, perhaps the U.S. Administration should make an effort to get the Palestinians to drop (which they have specifically refused to do) their fundamental assertion that Israel must be destroyed, a principle which certainly seems antithetical to the hope of a “2-State” solution.

    TWO DOZEN OUTPOSTS

Half a million Jews live in the 100 “authorized” settlements built on West Bank land Israel seized in the 1967 Middle East war, including Arab East Jerusalem.

The World Court says they are illegal. The United States and Europe Union agree and regard them as obstacles to peace.

Israel disputes this but acknowledges at least two dozen enclaves were built in recent years without approval. Israeli leaders have pledged for years to remove them, as promised under a U.S.-backed peace “road map” that sets the goal of an Arab peace with Israel and a Palestinian state alongside it.

Granted, Hamas is not helping matters but then an objective look at our process might find 2 very different “cultures” in the USA that seem to work at crossed purposes…and not particularly for the common good even though we’re allegedly on the same “team”…

But Israel did “agree” to stop that/take them down but they’ve done neither thing…

I dunno, if Mexico and Canada decided to cut off most food and medical to us (and were wildly sucessful in this effort creating tremendous hardship) and began to build towns in our country to boot I believe we’d get mad and perhaps even retaliate.

    Your thoughts?

In case you missed an exceptional speech by a very remarkable man, here it is. In its purpose, its completeness, and its summation of events and their rationale, the speech tells all one needs to know about statesmanship and a high regard for the Constitution and the American people that it protects.

OLA: My thoughts exactly! Cheney seems more Presidential than even Bush did. He has the guts to fire back at Obama’s weak, spineless terror policy, (although Cheney’s speech was planned, and it appears Obama got a copy of it, then made his “pre Cheney speech”, to make it look as if Cheney was responding to him.)

If there were more like Cheney in the Republican party, I would still call myself a Republican instead of a Conservative.

Now get ready to use the “troll scroll” key!
