Obama to Harvest Stem Cells from Only Wealthy Embryos

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 88 Comments

(2009-03-07) — As he signs an executive order Monday lifting limits on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, President Barack Obama said he intends to make the wealthiest Americans “bear their fair share of the burden.”

Following through on his inaugural promise “to restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost“, the president will order the National Institutes of Health to extract stem cells from embryos whose parents earn more than $250,000 per year, and to inject them into “the sick and crippled middle class.”

“Let me be perfectly clear,” Mr. Obama said, “if your family earns less than $250,000 per year, the federal government will not harvest one single stem cell from your embryos…not one single cell. In fact, for 95 percent of working families, my stem cell plan contains nothing but miraculous healing. That’s right, the cures are on the way.”

President George Bush, widely credited for blocking embryonic stem cell research, actually presided over the first federally-funded work in this area, only limiting the study to several dozen existing stem cell lines to avoid creating a market for what he called “spare parts” derived from humans.

“My predecessor kept us in the Dark Ages, allowing his morality to hinder our quest for immortality,” said President Obama. “And today, some say we should focus on adult stem cells, or other technologies with better track records that harm no one. But those voices fail to recognize that great achievement never comes without great sacrifice. We must not shrink from the certain surrender of what seems precious, because we fail to believe in that one-in-a-million chance at the miraculous. History will judge us.”

    “History will judge us.”

Not just history. But let’s be clear — this is just a matter of scale; the practice itself was already in place.

  • 2 JamesonLewis3rd // Mar 7, 2009 at 7:07 am

Yes, History will judge; that is, if there is any.

  • 3 gafisher // Mar 7, 2009 at 7:13 am

Portions of Obama’s speech announcing the new wholesale macerated baby market have been leaked. It includes something about an “… increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain …”

I just calmed my stem cells this morning. They were keeping me awake all night.

“Be still, the government man (bogey man )won’t git ya. We’s po folk.”

  • 5 flacracker // Mar 7, 2009 at 7:51 am

Those aren’t stem cells he’s trying to cut off…

We will all REALLY MISS *BOTH* the “STEM CELLS” Obama plans to CUT OFF

  • 6 R.A.M. // Mar 7, 2009 at 8:29 am

The only difference, (as you probably already know), between Obama and Bush on this issue, is that Obama will make us all pay for the research.

So this really isn’t news, as Obama will make us pay for EVERYTHING he decides is good for his “ObamaNation”.

Are 61% of Americans really that brain dead or are they just using drugs?

OR, are they taking these Obama approval polls in Dem only households?

  • 7 R.A.M. // Mar 7, 2009 at 8:41 am

If we get enough of these stems cells maybe we can put those “Gitmo” terrorists in them?

    “I’m just sayin’”!

O.T.: I saw where Senator Jon Kyle, (a supposed Republican), answered a constituents email, (who asked him about “Barry” not producing his birth certificate), by saying something to the effect that “Snopes” has debunked this as a myth!

So much for the Republicans ever getting to the truth about Barry.

Kind of odd to hear a supposed Republican giving “Snopes” more power and authority than the U.S. Constitution.

Like MLK, I too have a “dream”. Mine involves an angry citizenry marching up to Capitol Hill and removing the bums, (YES, BOTH party’s), and gently applying “liberal” amounts of tar and feathers to them! ;-)

The Peter Pan Present-dent meets Dr. Mengele in order to create the Utopian Race of Immortality. Hasn’t the human race learned anything about the value of human life yet?

Sure, Ackbar, why not use federal funds to cultivate human embryonic stem cells, only to throw away the what doesn’t suit your purposes?

If your knowledge about the proven efficacy of adult stem cell research, the bogusness of human-induced climate change, and the sorry results of economic spending is a clue to your bottomless stupidity, Your hubris is unparalled. I believe that the grapes of wrath is about all that your vintage will produce, Professor Wizard.

BTW You give effective dramatic readings of the horsefeathers that your handlers have prepared for you, Obama.

You HAVE to read this story about the, “almost every night” parties the Obama’s are having in the White House.

In the story, at least two of the people confirming are Dee Dee Myers and another Democrat CongressWoman who also frown on this at a time when the economy is in shambles!

Obama is quoted as saying, “This is a big house, and we get lonely.” Really? He is NEVER there. He has been on the road more than he has been there, and it has only been about 6 weeks. My goodness, what is he going to do after 6 months?

Amazingly they had a Stevie Wonder concert at one of the parties. I wonder if he sang them that “song” that was on YouTube, “Barack Obama” sung like it was the “scales”?

Tell me this would NOT be the top story on EVERY news outlet, amid calls for Impeachment, if it was Bush having parties.

I got this from Red Pepper about a year ago - printed it out and it’s still on my desk. Thanks Red - Waxless Fred

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed ; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly ; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

Here is another of his exhortations :

“Never give in - never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” ~ Winston Churchill, speech at Harrow (10-29-1941)

Hillarycare Socialized Nationalized Single-Payer Health Care System: “The debate is over”

Embryonic Stem Cell Research: “The debate is over”

Maybe Obama needs to find a cure for his allergic reaction to debating?

After all, history tells us (the same history that will judge Obama, no doubt) that the Founders all knew what needed to be done, and there was no debating whatsoever. It was as smooth a transition from the Crown to the United States of America as ever there has been in world affairs. War-mongering revolutionaries, such as George Washington, along with radicals with incendiary rhetoric, like Thomas Jefferson were just “unhelpful” to this process.

Now, BHO wants us all to stop “overreacting.”

What that man does not understand is that we (that is, conservatives) have yet to react at all. We’re simply doing what responsible adults do.

Party-Animal BHO doesn’t want True Americans to react, let alone overreact.

I hope I live long enough to see how this all turns out if only for the sake of my late mother, who fled Stalin’s Russia with her mother and lived nearly a decade in the Russian ghetto of Shanghai before meeting, in 1948, an American Staff Sergeant from Toledo OH. And for the sake of my Grandfather, Nicholas (???????), who stayed behind.

If you are a liberal, then this plan of only harvesting stem cells from ‘rich’ embryos makes total sense.

After all, only the poorest of the poor send their children into the military to die in some foreign land, while spoiled rich kids are able to buy their way out. So it’s only fair that the rich get their ’skin in the game’ by sending their prenatal progeny off to die in some laboratory.

In considering the usurper’s drive to enact his Socialist “Health Care Program” and the net effect it could have on myself and many other disabled elderly, I was reminded of a passage in the book of Lamentations.

Lam. 3:55 I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.
Lam. 3:56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
Lam. 3:57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
Lam. 3:58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.
Lam. 3:59 O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.
Lam. 3:60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.
    Lam. 3:61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;
Lam. 3:62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.
Lam. 3:63 Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.
Lam. 3:64 Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
Lam. 3:65 Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.
Lam. 3:66 Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.

But then I also remembered another small passage; Neh. 8:10″……. neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” so I figure that since the joy of the LORD is my strength, I have nothing to worry about…..so I won’t go beyond making sure that I continue to pray and of course “keep my powder dry”.

Of course the national socialist media is complicit in this scam by not pointing it out to the general public these deployment machinations.

At least some honest Obamatons are expressing their outrage at Obama’s broken promise to completely withdraw all American forces from Iraq 18 months after becoming CiC … and impossibility when Mr. Obama has already announced he would be leaving 50,000 American troops in Iraq despite the fact the utter defeat of Saddam’s regime occurred in 2003 and international jihadists posing as Iraqi insurgents were eventually decimated during the Bush Administration by early 2008.

    Hey darthboy !

“international jihadists posing as Iraqi insurgents were eventually decimated during the Bush Administration by early 2008.”

These people you refer to as ‘decimated by Bush’ still seem to be racking up the large numbers in Iraq.

  • 56 Darthmeister // Mar 9, 2009 at 10:05 am

Newsman, during the Bush administration jihadists have indeed been beaten to a bloody pulp, but like a dying venomous snake the overall radical Islamic organizations are still dangerous. The fact remains, the only good jihadist is a dead jihadist and a dead jihadist can never commit another act of terrorism.

Bush and General Petraeus had each made it abundantly clear that even though the capabilities of jihadists have been severely degraded and tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands have been killed, given their death-dealing mission in life they are still dangerous nutbags that must be firmly dealt with on the urban battlefield.

However, thank you very much for finally admitting that it is radical Muslims who are “racking up large numbers (of civilians) in Iraq” and not Bush or American soldiers who are indiscriminately killing civilians … the evil imperialists that you people have made us out to be.

Remember, deara troll, it has been your side of the aisle that has unfairly accused Bush the last five or six years of being responsible for the civilian deaths “racked up” by Muslim terrorists of every stripe in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s also worth noting the double-standard your side of the aisle constantly engages in since you and others of your ilk have remained mute about the Iraqi civilian deaths and the deaths of American soldiers during the Obama Administration. Hmmmmmm.

Now Hank, even you realize that the oh so sucessful “surge” was in reality a surge of cash. The troops were needed to haul that cash around and distribute it. It was when we finally discovered that it was easier to pay the “enemy” than it was to fight them. Were we to cease paying we’d be attacked with renewed vigor. But, if the cash can last until most of the troops leave it’ll be mostly good…

A fresh round of rebuilding spurred by the U.S. military’s recent alliance with some Anbar tribes — 200 new projects are scheduled — provides another opportunity for militant groups such as al Qaeda in Iraq to siphon off more U.S. money, contractors and politicians warn.

“Now we’re back to the same old story in Anbar. The Americans are handing out contracts and jobs to terrorists, bandits and gangsters,” said Sheik Ali Hatem Ali Suleiman, the deputy leader of the Dulaim, the largest and most powerful tribe in Anbar. He was involved in several U.S. rebuilding contracts in the early days of the war, but is now a harsh critic of the U.S. presence.
“Every contractor in Anbar who works for the U.S. military and survives for more than a month is paying the insurgency,” the politician said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter. “The contracts are inflated, all of them. The insurgents get half.”
As of July, the U.S. government had completed 3,300 projects in Anbar with a total value of $363 million, the U.S. embassy said. Another 250 projects with a total price tag of $353 million are under way.

Saleh, the deputy prime minister, said dealing with such huge amounts of money in such a volatile place means corruption is inevitable and that some projects cost far more than they should. But despite qualms, he believes the effort is worth it.

“If I do it in the Green Zone, it’s just putting gravel in Hesco bags and it would be about $16,000,” the contractor said. “But they needed it for Ramadi and Fallujah. I submitted an invoice for $120,000 and I’d say about $100,000 of that went to the mujahideen,” as Iraqis sometimes call Sunni insurgents.

Aside from Iraq never being a credible threat to the Continental United States, below is the major reason we should never have invaded Iraq in the first place ….

“Afghanistan, where an already-raging jihadist insurgency — consisting of Afghan and Pakistani Taliban, al Qaeda and various other radical Islamist groups — is intensifying. These jihadist fighters have used the time that the United States has spent absorbed in the war in Iraq to hone their skills on the battlefield and develop a more centralized command structure that has enabled them to hold large swaths of territory and launch complex and coordinated attacks against primarily Afghan and coalition targets.”

It might be noted that we have Nuclear subs armed with atomic weapons stationed at various places in the world’s oceans that can instantly easily wipe out any threat to the US from any location on our planet with the press of a button.

Sounds like a plan, Newsman. Does that mean we should have nuked Afghanistan after 9/11? Or that perhaps we should do Waziristan (if you think that is Osama’s current hiding place) now? Who should we plan on incinerating after the first successful terrorist nuclear attack on one of our cities? Just askin’ …

Opening the unusual presidential call to reporters by saying that there was “just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter,” he said it wasn’t he who started the federal government’s intervention into the nation’s financial system.

Absolutely correct. It wasn’t Obama - it was the Democrats in Congress, whose three-decade long manipulation of the housing sector resulted in the collapse of the mortgage market last autumn, creating an opportunity for the federal government to take over the nation’s banking system. Human Events”: Excerpt from Pat Buchanan

Why did LBJ fail? He overloaded the circuits. He tried to do it all. He misread a national desire for continuity after Kennedy’s death as a mandate for a lunge to the left and a great leap forward with the largest expansion of government since the New Deal.

By the winter of 1968, Lyndon Johnson was a broken president.

History never repeats itself exactly. But Barack Obama is making the same mistakes today that LBJ made in 1965.

***Paraphrase from someone who sounds a lot like a troll wannabe. Aside from the home invaders currently in my next door neighbors house never being a credible threat to me and my home, below is the major reason I should never have gone to my neighbors aid in the first place …… by the time the home invaders finish with his wife and daughter and murdering everyone over there, they’ll be sure and not bother my home since they will be grateful that I didn’t interfere.

or….or of course I could use my brains and realize that when they’re finished over there…..I’m next!

As a survivalist it’s in my best interest to take steps to bring the home invaders program to as an abrupt a halt as possible, using whatever means as may be necessary. (I think the County has a burial fund to cover this)

I just contacted the DNC regarding their proposed billboard in Rush Limbaugh’s arena. The photos of the possible billboards are all printed in CAPS so instead of Rush it will read RUSH.

    My comment per their request…..

Since my entry for the Rush Limbaugh billboard was not chosen I can’t WIN one of the Tee Shirts…but of the five picked I like the “Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure”. Is there any way I can BUY a Tee with that slogan. I’ll pay up to $20 but not over $25. Thanking you in advance for your consideration. - Fred

Reading on the picture of the billboard on the Tee will be - “AMERICANS DIDN’T VOTE FOR A RUSH TO FAILURE” I figure that with a broad felt-tip marker some truth can update the slogan so it will read……..

AMERICANS DIDN’T VOTE FOR A RUSH TO FAILURE BUT DADGUMMIT THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT WE GOT!! (STARTING WITH THE INSANE RUSH ON THE USURPER’S “PORKULUS” BILL - the maggots are gagging)

Now that’s a Tee I’ll be happy to wear. btw has anybody ever seen a happy liberal? Gone the way of the dodo bird I suspect. Today they’re mainly sourpuss dotterels whining about, lost in their dotage, some even cluttering up ScrappleFace with their mean, empty rhetoric.

For the benefit of those from Rio Linda: rhetoric |?ret?rik|
    noun
the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, esp. the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.
    • language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but is often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content.

I have a good friend (retired police officer) who loves sports - sports of all kinds; whether its playing ‘catch’ in the backyard with his son to the seemingly endless “tailgate parties” (his 2nd favorite) but his #1 over and above all others is what he calls “muddin” - he lives in St. Pete, FL so he does this muddin thing all year long. After every good rainfall he takes his old Ford Bronco and heads for the back country dirt roads. Later,he complains, “No matter what, I always end up getting stuck.” To which I replied, “Duh”

So, since it’s obviously much fun, I think I’m going back to “muddin” through the troll droppings here on ScrappleFace. The downside of course is that even repeated long showers won’t completely wash away the maggot infested garbage they smear as they mindlessly tromp amid the sacred pages of Scott’s masterwork. btwa I think it was yesterday that Rush had a lot of raves about Scott and ScrappleFace. He reads it and perhaps one day we’ll have a comment posted by El Rushbo? Maybe he’ll use “Last man standing” as his moniker? I look forward to it.

This is funny (at least I laughed) her last comment is priceless.

    Excerpt from Itzkoff/Ann Coulter interview.

Itzkoff: Many thanks, in advance, for taking these questions — let alone opening an email from the New York Times.

Coulter: I’ll have you know, I am the Treason Times most loyal reader. I was hoping your email was a discount subscription offer.

After a few more knocks on Bill Maher’s new talk show and the readers of the leftist blog DailyKos, the interview concluded:

Itzkoff: Do you consider yourself as speaking for the conservative movement, or just someone who has attracted many conservative fans? Something else?

Coulter: I think I speak for all Americans who think newspaper editors who print the details of top-secret anti-terrorist intelligence gathering programs on page one in wartime should be executed for treason.
