Obama Dog Pick Stalled By Immigration, Tax Questions

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 97 Comments

(2009-02-25) — The First Family has decided the new White House pet will be a Portuguese Water Dog, however, the official naming reportedly has been delayed by administration officials insisting on careful vetting to avoid embarrassing questions about immigration status or taxes.

“With a foreign-sounding name, naturally we’re taking extra precautions to ensure that all the papers are in order,” said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. “And, of course, with a breed like Portuguese Water Dog, we’ll want to know if entering the country involved any swimming. The standard immigrant dorsal moisture test will be applied.”

Mr. Gibbs added that due to the tax difficulties with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, and the aborted nomination of Tom Daschle as Health and Human Services secretary, “we need to make sure that anyone we let into the White House from now on has faithfully done his duty. Unlike some of the others, we’re going to make sure this one passes the smell test.”

That had better be one mean dog if it is going to be able to replace ‘Nan’ Pelosi on Obama’s lap!

OR, any of the other dogs fighting to get on his lap.

  • 2 R.A.M. // Feb 25, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Why all the hub bub about the “status” of the dog, or whether or not it is an “illegal” or has “papers”.

We STILL don’t know if it’s owner is an American or not! He STILL won’t show us his “papers”. ;-)

Dorsal moisture? Interesting way to say “wetback”…

So, American water isn’t good enough, eh?

I say, follow the money because it is going somewhere. The Three Card Monty Python skit the Democrat party is performing [panned with prejudice] is going to run out of steam; sooner rather than later-a good thing, imho-thanks to the doom and gloom emanating via ever-increasing spasms of blank stares from The White House.

I was sure the First Family were going to adopt two Doberman Pinschers, name one Zeus, the other Apollo (ala ‘Magnum P.I.’) so along with Obama we’d have the Greek God Trinity in the White House.

I didn’t know the Stimulus Plan had a “Buy Portuguese” clause.

  • 8 gafisher // Feb 25, 2009 at 9:07 pm

You’re on the right track, LCRM Re#7. The Foisted Family had already decided on the cleverly misspelled “Medea” as the mythically-themed name for their lapdog.

When Ackbar steps out of the WH for his cigarette break, he can make sure that the new family pet “has faithfully done his duty.” The Amazing One will be “walking the dog” frequently, one would guess.

  • 14 onlineanalyst // Feb 25, 2009 at 10:36 pm

OT He may be the King of Pork, but Robert “Sheets” Byrd knows the Constitution. Byrd is not happy with the power grabbing (on steroids) by Obama in surrounding himself with an unelected, unaccountable shadow government that is making policy without the checks and balances of Congress.

Didn’t the “constitutional scholar” swear to uphold the Constitution at his inauguration?

Ackbar is pushing this nation into a Constitutional crisis, as well as an economic one.

Regarding the latter point, Peter Schiff claims that Obama exhibits “a total lack of undertanding of basic enonomics.” (But we knew that.)

R.A.M. #’s 1&2: B.O. should have been “paper trained” ie: trained to show his papers upon request.

As it is, I read about military officers who with more backbone than most, are putting it all on the line by going to court to find out, legally by the Constitution, if they can be forced to obey orders of a supposed CIC who may well be bogus and in fact a usurper. (as many, including myself believe).

  • 18 Fred Sinclair // Feb 26, 2009 at 12:32 am

La. Gov. Bobby Jindal would be a good choice in 2012 for Pres. - he at thirty seven is eligible but I’d like a Sen. Jim Inhofe/Gov. Bobby Jindal ticket with Sen. Tom Coburn as Sec. of State and Sarah Palin as Speaker of the House (bye-bye to San Fran Nan) and a Republican sweep of Congress ala Newt’s 1994 landslide. BHO just might make this scenario a real possibility. I’ve been reading a lot about grassroot’s planned tea parties in dozens and dozens of cities around the Nation. It seems a lot of folks are fed up and aren’t going to take it any more.

God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.

  • 19 Fred Sinclair // Feb 26, 2009 at 12:46 am

One thing I noted with interest that might escape most others from that ever increasing list of cities - rallies and demonstrations in Washington, D.C., Fayetteville, N.C., Pittsburgh, Penn., San Diego, Calif., Fort Worth, Texas, Tulsa, Okla., Oklahoma City, Orlando, Fla., Omaha, Neb., Atlanta, Ga., and elsewhere in Missouri, Floridians Unite - Orlando Tea Party; Pennsylvania Tea Party. During my 11+ years on active duty (USAF) I was stationed with a large number of guys from Fayetteville, N.C. I learned (a few times, the hard way) that they are almost as tenacious as Missourians (me), those boys are like bulldogs, once they get their teeth into something, you’ve about got to kill them before they’ll let go.

With all due respect to Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.,the only thing those boys liked better than a beer party with lots of girls and whuppin up on any S.C. boys (especially in basketball and/or football) was a chance to do some real down and dirty whuppin up on ANYBODY trying to do a North/South Carolinian dirty.

The Gubbermint may have bitten off a bigger chaw than they can chew.

Now to be totally fair, it’s a good bet that a bunch of them North/South Carolina men (and their wimmin folks of course) migrated west and homesteaded parts of Oklahoma. Their offspring (a few generations removed) might account, in part for the ferocious reputation held by the University of Oklahoma’s football team. Which is why I think the tea parties in OKC, Tulsa, etc. will be truly memorable events. Some may wear tea bags (or bandoleers for all I know) but I’d give a lot to be able to drive my Hoveround chair down the streets with them.

So if Jim DeMint with his S.C. Troops and the men of Fayetteville are going to be part of “The National Tea Party” - Somebody’s got to bring the crumpets. Those boys may well show up in their pickup trucks with the gun rack in the rear window. I wouldn’t want to be a mush for brains, liberal leftist, that gets in the way of that parade.

Want to bet the MSM tries to ignore the whole thing?

    Re: 14

Now the question I have is, is Senator Byrd upset because Obama is wiping his feet on the Constitution, or because Obama is stepping on the Senate’s toes?

Either way, it looks like Sen. Byrd will need to hand over his DNC-issued bus pass, because he won’t need it while under the bus. Joe Lieberman better scooch over, it looks as though he’s about to have company.

  • 21 R.A.M. // Feb 26, 2009 at 4:50 am

Now that an active duty military Officer, in a combat zone, has challenged Obama to PROVE he is eligible to be President, the Supreme Court CANNOT say he doesn’t have “Standing” to challenge “The usurper” who can order him in life or death situations!

What a brave and courageous man this guy is to stand up to the “fake Prez”!!!

Show us the (non existant) U.S. birth certificate Barry!

Will “Nancy the trained Seal” preform for Prez Biden as she does for Barry? It’s gonna be interesting watching then undo ALL the Executive Orders and bills, (including the “Stimulus bill”), that an “illegal Prez” didn’t have the authority to do.

Better start getting some names together for those “new” cabinet posts. Those will have to be redone too.

If the “Supremes” drag this out any longer, it will only get worse for America. “Hussein’s” time has come!

  • 26 Hawkeye // Feb 26, 2009 at 8:42 am

    R.A.M. #21,

Show us the (non existant) U.S. birth certificate Barry!…

Oh, there’s a birth certificate out there all right. According to World Net Daily

Hawaii’s Gov. Linda Lingle has placed the candidate’s birth certificate under seal and instructed the state’s Department of Health to make sure no one in the press obtains access to the original document under any circumstances…[emphasis added]

Not only that, but… The director of Hawaii’s Department of Health [Chiyome Fukino], …said she has “personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record”… (see HERE)

It’s just that Obama doesn’t want anybody to see what’s ON his birth certificate. He’s clearly got something to hide. My guess is that there is no doctor or hospital listed on the birth certificate. That would only add to the speculation that he wasn’t born in Hawaii at all.

    R.A.M. (Republican Attack Machine?)

    Do you live in Alabama?

On Saturday February 23, 2009, Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama said:

“Well his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven’t seen any birth certificate. You have to be born in America to be president.”

Shelby was responding to a question from a (half-wit, moron) constituent about whether there was any truth to the rumor that Obama wasn’t a US citizen.

He has since said that it was a “throwaway line” and that HE DOESN’T HAVE ANY DOUBT THAT OBAMA IS ELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT!

Do you drink unfiltered American water? If it is clean water (H2O) is water. But then it happens that, I do sell “Freedom Water”, from Liberty Mountains Springs, which is guaranteed to free your mind of the liberal contaminants which according to Brig. General Jack D. Ripper are cutting off the flow of the ” Precious Bodily Fluids” in our people!

General Ripper (Sterling Hayden) went on to say to Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: “You know when fluoridation first began?

Mandrake (Peter Sellers) answered: “I… no, no. I don’t, Jack.”

General Ripper continued: “Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake.

Mandrake responded: How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.”

    So you see, JL3

It’s the Fluoridation, Fluoridation, I tell you, Fluoridation, I say …

Remember: Freedom Water is recommended by Pat Robertson and Dr. Strangelove himself, your own Darthmeister!

The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.”

“The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.” Noah Webster was probably right in 1787.

But, things have changed some since then! How many Bradleys, Abrams, Apaches and Predators does the citizenry have.

Is it your notion to set aside constitutional law to achieve a take over of the United States Government?

You continue to advocate for insurrection and violence against the American People and their lawful government. This because you lost an election, and the party now in power properly exercised it’s constitutional right to change course in the interest of the majority of of our nation.

Newsman said something (#31 on the last thread) that is much more relevant: “If people don’t feel there is promise or hope, you can do all the financial manipulation you want and it will not work !”

I think that is exactly right. Now, I also think that maybe Newsman & I might disagree about whether or not Obama is inspiring people to feel that there’s hope … but that is the important issue.

He’s privy to some facts that it would not be prudent to share, that we ain’t seen nothing yet, that things will get much, much worse before they get better (if that indeed ever happens).
So, if he went up there spouting sunshine and lollipops right now he’s assured that he will be proven wrong. Given the reality his approach is MUCH sunnier than I’d expect…even while he’s roundly criticised for not being upbeat enough.

L@Y: That Bush statement was true, admittedly so by both sides of the aisle when W was governor of Texas. He extended that same spirit of bipartisanship when he became president. Let’s not rewrite history or facts like Joe Biden.

The Gaffemaster “Don’t Mess with Joe” criticized Jindal, saying that LA loses 400 jobs a day. The fact of the matter is that LA’s unemployment rate is far less than the national average. In fact, its jobs’ numbers increased because of the diversification of its opportunities. Let’s hear it from an LA news source that isn’t afraid of truth.

When in doubt, make up your own reality is the Dem mantra. The benumbed media will never research the facts

I assume that the secret Obama handshake is similar to the farmer’s handshake: interlace the fingers and let the thumbs hand down, mimicking cow teats. The message is to milk the populace.

Actually, Newsman, the Republicans had a whole package of alternative economic stimulators, proven historically to jump start and sustain economic growth for everyone. They were shut out of the process and/or only given lip service.

Tax cuts and belt tightening/restraint are absolutely necessary. Anyone who is running a frugal household does not go into further credit debt when the money is tight. Spending is not a stimulus. Has this administration not considered having a rainy day fund for addressing unexpected disasters? Or is it still fulfilling some fantasy Democrat wish list?

BTW The majority of Scrappleface posters, as well as those on other conservative sites, have loads of common sense. They actually are closer to what the Founding Fathers had in mind; ie., the common citizen empowers the government, not the other way around. They never envisioned a full-time political class trying to run the nation from the top down.

It would be very simple to fix our economy. Step #1 - Check constitution for what is specified to spend federal dollars on. Step #2 - Immediately suspend all unauthorized spending. Step#3 - Eliminate Income Tax and Capital Gains Taxes.
Unfortunately if you were to actually do these things the people sucking on the teats would storm the White House and suspend your term.
Step #4 - return to a currency backed by precious metals.

Cmon offline, the Founding Fathers were white landowners who set it all up so the common slob in the street could never have a say in the affairs of the country.

Even Putin is telling Ackbar Ogabe not to go the socialist route.

I’m not all that surprised. Recall back to the mid-1990’s when Hillarycare was being touted it was reported that some of our allies, with crumbling socialized medicine systems, were imploring then President Clinton to abandon the idea. The arrogance of how they could do it better and smarter made the warnings ring hollow in their ears, and they pressed forward anyway, to a sound defeat, largely brought about by the citizenry calling their Congressional representatives to task on it.

Flash forward to today, and President Obama is attempting to get his version through a backdoor. The question now is, are there enough people in the electorate to make contact with Capitol Hill against this stepping stone to privacy invasion and Big Brother-ism, or has the ‘five-finger discount’ crowd become too loud to drown out?

The KoolAid® imbibers continue to do their “poll” dances around the shrine to the Dimwit-in-Chief while even the Democrats on Wall Street want to vote The One off the island.

The funny thing is, that at this point in his administration, George W. Bush had a higher approval rating than Obama has now. And according to Rasmussen, 59% still agree with Ronald Reagan’s assertion that “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” So I suppose there is still ‘hope’. I just wonder how long Obama will keep his lofty poll numbers if the market maintains its downward spiral over the next couple weeks.

It appears Obama and the new lib “Culture of Corruption” doesn’t mind looking like the crooks that they so obviously are.

I was not sure until now that this kind of “transparency” is what OBOMBA was refering to on the campaign trail.

Huh. Gallup shows the majestic magnificent ONE has dropped below 60%.

For the first time since Gallup began tracking Barack Obama’s presidential job approval rating on Jan. 21, fewer than 60% of Americans approve of the job he is doing as president. In Feb. 21-23 polling, 59% of Americans give Obama a positive review, while 25% say they disapprove, and 16% have no opinion.

Four in 10 Americans (41%) say they are more confident in President Barack Obama’s plans to improve the economy following his Tuesday night address to Congress.

    Just saying…

  • 70 gafisher // Feb 27, 2009 at 9:20 am

Interesting figures, mig Re#69. If 41% are now “more confident” in ?bama then 59% are not, which agrees with the approval rating numbers, but also raises the question of where that 41% stood (besides being less confident) before Brocko’s Delphic soliloquy.

Of course there’s also a question of what “more confident” means — someone dangling from a cliff would be “more confident” in a rescuer who offered to pull them up with kite string than if he dropped them a cotton thread, but that still wouldn’t translate into much actual confidence.

I’ll take the liberty of citing a commenter, Baxter Green, to the weaseling charge that Bush never included war funding in his budget and, by that token, Obama is more honest about government spending:

“Bush never hid “war spending”. It was out there for the world to see.Instead of trying to bribe and hide spending like the democrats are doing, war spending was put forth to be voted on (as a separate entity) was completely transparent:

Former Bush Aide Blasts Obama for Budget Criticism
President Bush’s former spokesman calls the Obama administration’s claims of fiscal responsibility the “height of audacity.”

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/02/26/bush-aide-blasts-obama-budget-criticism/

“Putting temporary war spending in supplemental budgets was done to avoid permanently baking those appropriations into the Defense Department’s baseline budget. That’s good budgeting, not a ‘gimmick,’” Fratto said.

This apparently was not a big problem for Democrats because they continued to vote for it.
Whining about it now is only an attempt to distract from the fact that Obama is breaking promises left and right and sheep like you (Obama apologists) just stay on your knees and say ‘I’ll take it”.

Instead of continuing to whine about Bush, justify the blatant dis-honesty of your Messiah:

“Trying to mask huge spending increases under the cloak of ‘fiscal responsibility’ is the height of audacity,” Fratto told FOX News on Thursday.
    Well said.

Heading towards a 10 trillion dollar deficit is apparently no problem for the “smart ones”.

Obama’s trillions dwarf Bush’s ‘dangerous’ spending
    By Byron York
    Chief political correspondent 2/24/09
    http://www.dcexaminer.com/politics/Obamas-trillions-dwarf-Bushs-dangerous-spending.html

Pelosi and Reid called Bush’s budgets “dangerous” and “unpatriotic,” but with Obama, they’ve changed their tune
The new spending guarantees that the problems that so disturbed Pelosi and Reid just a couple of years ago — high interest payments and an increasing number of foreign debt-holders — will get worse. Yet so far, the Democratic leaders have refrained from using words like unpatriotic, irresponsible and dangerous to describe Obama’s budget.

Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell in the after-speech spin points out that in the first month of Obama’s administration Congress has spent more money than it spent on Iraq, Afghanistan, and Katrina relief over the past seven years

Obama has not kept his promise on transparency.
Obama has not kept his promise on no pork.
Obama outright lied about numbers to inflate his “2 trillion in savings”.

Obama probably got his bogus numbers from super smart VP “nobody messes with Joe” Biden who doesn’t know the “number” of his own website and was caught lying on national television about job loss numbers in Louisiana.

Yeah, ,keep whining about Bush so you don’t have to address the corrupt policies and lies coming from Obama’s administration.”

Perhaps the new occupant of the Oval Office is jealous of Zimbabwe and is working to surpass them so that America can boast of the world’s highest
    inflation rate.

It’s time NOW (today) to begin stocking up on your meds. Don’t stop taking what your Doctor prescribes to save for a later date. Explain to your Dr. that unlike Canada, we won’t have an America to run to. And you want prescriptions in volume to prepare for the catastrophic inflation that is coming, thanks to the new occupant of the Oval Office. Personally I’m mostly stockpiling food. Canned goods by the case or half-case.

When the electricity goes, food in the Fridge and freezer won’t last long. So stock up on meat (like home made beef jerky) can fresh hamburger and sausage.

The unprepared will end up on the street selling apples (what isn’t sold will be your families supper that night).

    NEWS AFRICA

    Zimbabwe inflation at record level

Zimbabwe is battling with the world’s highest
inflation rate at over 100,000 per cent [EPA]

Zimbabwe’s currency has tumbled to a record low of 25 million Zimbabwe dollars to one single US dollar, while Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s president, continues his campaign for re-election.

One hundred dollars bought nearly 20kg of local currency on Wednesday as Zimbabwe wrestled with the world’s highest inflation rate at over 100,000 per cent.
Analysts say that inflation is likely to get worse as Zimbabwe’s central bank pumps cash into the economy to fund upcoming elections.

There have been reports that the central bank is buying US dollars on the unofficial market to pay for power, petrol and vehicle imports ahead of the election.
Zimbabwe’s black market exchange rate for the US dollar broke the one million Zimbabwe dollar mark for the first time in late October.

Unfortunately only a few older Americans know what poverty is - we’re about to die out, but the younger will learn that as screwed up as Roosevelt was the new occupant of the Oval Office is much, much worse. He’s like Franklin Delano Roosevelt to he 10th (tenth) power! - OR WORSE!!

Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s president is pretty well out - due to the inflation rate, the abject poverty - little kids and babies dying of malnutrition. Perhaps the abject poverty is what it will take to wake America up!

It took a Jimmy Carter to get us a Ronald Reagan. Perhaps Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin, or Jim Inhofe is our next Reaganesque President?

    btw 20kg of Zimbabwe’s currency = 44 lbs.
