Obama to Re-Hire Those Unemployed by His Election

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 42 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2009-01-09) — As unemployment hit 7.2 percent, a high not seen since President Bill Clinton’s first term, President-elect Barack Obama today promised to re-hire all those Americans who lost their jobs due to budget cuts sparked by his election.

“I know November 5th scared the pants off a lot of business leaders,” said Mr. Obama. “They saw my victory speech and looked ahead to increasing taxes, regulation and government intervention as far as the eye can see. Naturally they cut their largest expense, human resources. So, we’re going to take their tax money, and hire their old employees.”

Mr. Obama said many of those unemployed workers would get new government jobs in direct competition with their former employers, “thus filling them with a sense of justice as they watch the complete collapse of their greedy former bosses.”

“We are not yet near the numbers of those earlier recessions,” Mr. Barbera said, “but five more months like what we have been having and we’ll be there.”

So, forty-eight more months oughta really do it …

Okay, now I get it….those campaign posters that said Change We Can Believe In shoulda said Change Back to Clinton/Carter…

Not to repeat myself, but has anyone heard from Ms. Rightwing lately? Okay, I worry!!

Ah, hope. Don’t you just love it?

upnorth: In Ms RW’s last comment she said she was on her way back to the ER.

    But you knew that, right?

  • 5 woodnwheel // Jan 9, 2009 at 12:25 pm

“Change we can believe in”? I don’t know about you, but I believe in keeping change in my pockets, not giving all of it to the government!

The images I am receiving from Capitol Hill are not encouraging. It looks like anarchy run amok, so-to-speak, as if it’s about to stall and nosedive. Megalomaniacs with psychopathic addictions to deceit, money and power line the halls.

Repentance. It’s the only thing that’s going to stop the increasing velocity of the downward momentum initiated back when it was but a “slippery slope” cliche.

I’m home again. Feeling pretty weak yet and maybe came home too early but……….

    a) hospitals are not healthy

    b) There is a big snow storm heading our way this weekend and if I felt better on Saturday, I may have been stuck there

    c) There is no place like home

    d) Thanks for your prayers. I haven’t been back to where I left off on Tuesday so there is some catching up to do.

I love how Obama is blamed for record unemployment. Might as well blame him for the trillion $ plus deficit whilst you’re at it

and the Holocost presumably…and the fall of the Roman Empire whilst you’re at it.

But, he isn’t (yet) responsible for any of our current woes…or did that simple fact escape everyone here? That’s not to say that he won’t be responsible for future woes, that may well be (crystal ball is in the shop)

MsRW…glad to see you well enough to post…that’s something! Best wishes to you!

Perception is reality…especially in the stock market. Hang on, folks… :-(

But if anyone needs a hint as to who IS responsible, drop me a line, I can help you with that!

  • 18 RepublicanAttackMachine // Jan 9, 2009 at 4:25 pm

If I go only from the title of this article, does this mean O-blah-blah has a job for GWB, and will the official title be “scapegoat”? ;-)

Left wing-nut loons love to quote GWB speech errors. Pretty funny that O-bah-blah and his V.P (S)elect have as many gaffs already as GWB has in 8 years, and they have not even taken office yet, AND my bet is some have been “covered up” by the fawning media!

At this rate, there will be enough “Hussein” gaffs after 4 years, (the end of dimocrat majorities in all three branches of government), to fill up all 57+ states!

  • 19 RepublicanAttackMachine // Jan 9, 2009 at 4:31 pm

I wish O-blah-blah would explain why he is saying ANYTHING right now, IF he truly believes there is only, “one president at a time”?

We ALL know he uses this line when the questions get too tough, or the teleprompter goes on the fritz!

In the words of Bugs Bunny, “What a maroon”!

Where do people get the idea this idiot is intelligent? From his CIA pick?

Instead of doing any hiring, BHO should repent and fire the Democrat party and its Godless Socialism which got us into this mess.

    JamesonLewis3rd:

    (Re #20)
That’s a brilliant idea, and according to the Obama Plan (ala Mr. Ott) they’d be put back to work in positions opposite to what they were doing before. So all those laid-off from the Democrat party would go to work for Wal-Mart, for Big Oil, for the American Auto Industry, for the American People, etc.

It’s so crazy, it has to work!

  • 22 upnorthlurkin // Jan 9, 2009 at 5:22 pm

It’s good to see the whole gang reuniting again.

MsRW,Ink: Did you take that CPAP with you to the ER this time so that it could be sterilized? Do you put an anti-bacterial/fungal/mold solution into your humidifier?

O’Dopey’s “economic recovery” plans described in Scott’s article are too close to the mark of what PEBHO has up his sleeve. The whole con game sounds like a circle jerk (That’s why he is the Big O) of government creating a problem in order for government (of course) to solve it…with your tax dollars to pay off debt that we will never get out from under The method is a perfection of Saul Alinksy’s recommendations, described by Cloward-Plivens.

I hope residents of all fifty seven states (!) are paying attention. They are about to have their pockets picked on their way to serfdom.

What really has to inspire confidence is that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, who are responsible for this Fannie/Freddie meltdown are still in charge of oversight. Blinky Pelosi and Pinky Reid are rubbing their hands together over how to be nannies to us all.

Here is a clue: Cut our corporate taxes (the second highest in the world); cut capital gains taxes. These two alone will allow businesses to become more liquid and hire people. Cut the tax whammy on small businesses. America could become more productive then.

Give Americans a tax holiday for several months, and put that money (which is rightfully theirs) directly into the pockets of wage earners.
Knock off the nonsense about giving non-taxpaying citizens a “rebate”.

Drill and mine and build nuclear plants while exploring alternative means of energy. The direct and ancillary jobs are there. We have superior, responsible technology now. We have plenty of resources, savvy, and entrepreneurship.

Let’s stop bailing out failing or mismanaged businesses. There is a reason that we don’t see buggy whips and eight-tracks on our store’s shelves.

People are not buying because they have no idea what their dollars will be worth, given the borrowing (from the Chinese) and the printing of Monopoloy money will do to their household budgets.

Obama is out of his depth. I fear for our country.

    OLA,

There’ll be none of those actions, though they’re fine prescriptions.

Remember those fine cabins at that state park we visited a couple years ago? All those unemployed people will be building Obamacabins and filling potholes, as a part of the Civilian Commie Corps.

  • 27 mindknumbed kid // Jan 9, 2009 at 8:12 pm

ola - re#24, The new Monopoly game has debit cards, why waste financial resources printing money? We already have money that is no more than a concept between our ears, just issue us all a USA Visa or Mastercard…

Beerme #26: You forgot to mention the Obama Youth!

They’ll be the ones who’ll be living in the basements of the Obamacabins, cultivating the marijuana plants in the Victory Gardens behind the cabins, and digging out the potholes …

  • 29 onlineanalyst // Jan 9, 2009 at 9:47 pm

Speaking of those state park cabins: I am really ready to reprise Face2Face at the same venue this spring, maybe in May or June. What say you all?

BTW Did you read that Obama’s mother-in-law is moving into the White House, too? Between Michell O and Mrs. Robinson, Obama will have two mommies to tell him how wonderful he is and to admire his pecs and to chow down on their bigger piece of the pie.

  • 30 onlineanalyst // Jan 9, 2009 at 10:07 pm

mkk: That video was so much fun. I was singing along with my own gusto. Thanks.

It reminded me of an Elderhostel trip that I took several years ago: Southern Cities and American Music. We started in Nashville for country, drove on to Memphis for rock and roll/blues, headed down through the Mississippi Delta for more blues and gospel, and ended in New Orleans for jazz. What a feast of great concerts, museums, halls of fame, and regional food!

Our small group of music lovers sang along to tapes and took part in trivia games in our van. We joined up with a sister-group taking the trip via barge down the Mississippi River for a gospel-music concert, which I happily joined on stage.

I don’t particularly care for country music, but I had a ball in Nashville. Even its airport is unique.

Americana is captured right through the center of our nation. The experience put this blue-state person into a red-state state of mind.

Bober 15: You may as well get used to it. Lots of ground to make up for eight years of Bush-bashing by the Democrats. Surely you don’t think that’ll get by with barely a wave, do you? But since Obummer is such an empty suit, and since his cabinet is full of the “untruth squad” from those Clinton years, the future of “blaming” is obvious!

This war began thirty years ago with the Islamic Revolution in Iran and is now global in scope. Its agenda is the extermination of the Jews and the destruction of the West.

The War Against the Jews by David Horowitz.

  • 36 Deerslayer // Jan 10, 2009 at 11:52 am

To those of the “Blame Bush” ilk: Please refer to the last time that BO whent ahead in the polls to stay (about the middle of September) and check when the stock market began it’s free fall (about the middle of September) and you’ll find that this economic downturn is clearly Obama’s.
You might also look at the MSM lack of effort to “place blame” for the housing debacle. If it were the responsibility of any Republican, CBS/ABC/NBC et. al. would be having four hour new specials about blaming the “nasty Republicans”.
Sorry libs but you are and will be responsible for all the bad times to come.
